Summer Review

Monday, September 06, 2010

All to often I get on the negative side of things...What did not go right. Yes I did go up in weight while being sick. But that should not be my only focus.
I recently received a goodie that made me look at what is getting me toward my goals which is to be healthy. That is so much more than just a number on a scale.
Here are my other numbers:
A1c - 6,2
Cholesterol - 138
HDL - 51
LDL - 62

That is quite an achievement Yes some of it is with meds, but the rest is due to my diet and exercise.

Just like the scale varies, so do my test results. A snapshot in time does not always reflect what is going on. Look at the trend.
I'm trending toward my goals.

Trending towards your goals; what a wonderfully positive way to look at the picture as a whole. The graph is leaning towards your healthy goals, a trend towards good health. I like it.

Those are great numbers Nancy!! Yes some of it due to meds but as you say A LOT has to do with you!

You have become this incredibly strong person and such a force in Sparkland. I suspect someday you'll be without meds altogether!!

Keep up the good work and your inspirational blogs!

Way to go. Diet and exercise does make a difference. It made a big difference for me. Because of it, I was able to avoid taking cholestral med. and we're watching our bp in hopes I don't have to take med. for that either.

Beautiful Day

Sunday, September 05, 2010

I'm feeling better and am mostly caught up with the things I needed to get done. Thankfully Earl was a non-event for us, but the weather that came in afterward inspired me to get 6 loads of laundry out on the line. There is nothing like the smell of clean sheets just taken off the line.
Simple things can bring us pleasure and joy. I've been pleased that my work on evening snacks is taking hold. Last night I was able to recognize a desire to snack and squelch it with relative ease.
Last week's illness gave me a week off from exercise, I felt more like Rip van Winkle. It is surprising how weak I feel. It is time to rebuild. I'll be back at the pool even though my classes do not start until the end of the month.

As for my meals.... that is what I am working on today. 21-Day Vegan Kickstart starts tomorrow. I will be adhering to it as best I can with my family. I'm off to do some planning.
Enjoy your weekend.

I'm glad Earl had mercy on your area and you got fresh air dried sheets instead. That is such a refreshing scent and gives a good night rest along with it as a bonus. Good to hear you are feeling better and back in the saddle Nancy.

Wishing and hoping and thinking and praying,...

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

.....
planning and dreaming
each night of his charms
that won't get you into his arms,

These lyrics from Dusty Springfield's song reminded me that good intentions will not get me into the arms of a healthy lifestyle.
emoticon
Show him that you care just for him, (healthy lifestyle)
do the things that he likes to do,(be active, eat veggies)
wear your hair just for him, (take care of myself)
cause you won't get him, thinking and a praying
wishing and a hoping

Set my intentions and take action, that will get me to my healthy lifestyle.
A big thank you to Keri and her blog series.

I am turning my dreams into reality.

Yes, you are! I can tell you really do a lot of "thinking" about things.

I'm glad to read that you are feeling better today. emoticon

Now I'm going to have that song running in my head all day!!!

That's okay since I like the song.

What a great mind you have to come up with these ideas that you put into blogs. I think from now on when I hear that song it will help anchor me to focusing on health!!

Keep up the good work and the great blogs!

Salty Consequences

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

I canceled all my appointments except for going to the Doctor. This weekend salt and the tissue box were my friends. But my weight and blood pressure were both up. Could it be from the soup and crackers? Huge difference from last month. Hopefully the excess will soone be gone.

I'm going to have to find better options to help me heal. I'm restricted in my OTC choices. What do you do when you have a sore throat and a head that feels like they have over implanted cotton into your sinus cavity?

Feel better soon! Salt certainly does that to me, too. It is my public enemy #1~ Hope you are back in the groove soon.

As August draws to a close, surprising lessons have been learned.
Evening Snack Report
∎ Put it on a plate.
∎ ASK: 'Am I hungry?' (if I feel I want more)
∎ Wait 20 minutes (if I want more)
I have done this for a month, with positive results. I will keep going with this as long as I have an evening snack.

I have always heard "find your passion", all these years I have looked for it. But what I haven't done is to look within and be proud of who I am. I was always trying to be what others wanted me to be, living up to others' expectations. Ah... I learned to be compliant, because of consequences. I have been rebelling instead of living.

I'm still following KO1215's Seven Day Inspiration Series. Day 4 was "Your dreams are just waiting to be lived." Between KO1215 and INDYGIRL, my stuffy head has been swirling.
The following come from INDYGIRL's blog:
“Don’t try to find yourself, create yourself.”
“It’s never too late to be who you’ve always wanted to be.”
It’s how you see yourself that matters...

When I read “Don’t try to find yourself, create yourself.” it was like someone opened a window and I could breathe.
What do I want?
What do I believe? That is who I am.

“The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”
—Frank Loyd Wright

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” -Thoreau

"The purpose of life is to live it" - Eleanor Roosevelt

I'm off to live my life....

    Hi Nancy,

What an inspirational blog. Now we have to live it!

I love all of your quotes but Thoreau wins the day for me.

You are on the edge, on the cusp of an epiphany. A life changing event. Here is the on line dictionary's meaning of epiphany: a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.

Insight is the most meaningful tool to bring about change. How wonderful what you are experiencing. I think some never stretch themselves and therefore miss the experience and empowerment you are coming into. How great you are!!!!

I look forward to hearing more. You can Nancy, yes you can.

What a wonderful way to begin September, which for many of us has always heralded a new beginning: school starts, a new season begins, etc.

Let's take the next three months and really work to create the life we want. I'm with you on the journey!

PS -- great job with the snacks and for reporting it.
