Ok, promised I'd let you know how I survived after yesterday's 6 mile walk.
Slept real well last night, no surprise there. I was expecting to be real sore when I got up this morning, but truthfuly it wasn't to bad. My feet, rather the inside ankle area is sore, probably because I wore my old tennis shoes which needed replacing. I did buy new shoes the other day, but haven't broken them in yet.
My calves and butt are sore, but not to bad. I actually got out and did a 20 minute walk this morning. Then walked to the bus to run errands. Post office and produce store.
I'm feeling it a little more tonight, but I will survive! Still need to do some strength training while I watch TV.
Let's see what Day 3 brings!

Ok, so today was the first day of my summer vacation from the school I work at. 6 glorious weeks away from the stress and worries of being at a new school site.
I was so ready for it, I made my list of things I want to do during vacation. You know the usual things, get things done in the apartment, get together with friends, spend time with the grandkids. Read, work on my crafts and try to get my biological clock switched around for the early morning shift I'm now on.
Of course, on the top of my list is to workout daily, get back to the gym and re read the Spark. I so need to get back on track.
A few weeks ago an old friend and I decided to start going for walks one day week. We decided that San Diego is such a beautiful city, we wanted to explore different parks, trails and lakes to walk at. So far we have done Chollas Lake twice, Mission Trails Park, Memorial park all great choices.
Yesterday I touched base with her about this weeks walk and we decided that to get out today for our walk would be a perfect way to start my vacation. (She works at a traditional schedule school so she's been off for 4 weeks already)
Anyway, we decided to walk Lake Murray! No problem, it's only 3.2 miles around the lake. We figured why not, it wasn't to hot, although the sun came out a little soomer than we anticipated, and there was a nice breeze. So we start our walk, no problem, we had sun screen on, we had our water. At the 1 1/2 mile marker, she asked if I was doing OK, or did I want to go back? I figured at 1 1/2 miles it really didn't make much differance. So we continued on a little slower but did just fine until!!!!!! we got to a lttle past the 3 mile marker and discovered that the rest of the trail we closed off. We just stood there with our mouths open in shock not sure if we wanted to laugh or cry!
So! our short 3.2 mile walk turned out to be a 6 mile 3 hour walk. It was much slower walking back. We had to stop several times in the shade. The heat really got to me and I had to sit for awhile after getting sick. But we made it.
Needless to say it will be a while before we go back!
Guess I really burned those calories today didn't I!
Now, let's see if I can even move for my scheduled early morning walk tomorrow!
I'll let you know!

Had any extra day off today. It was a furlough day, another day without pay, but the weather was great and I am finally feeling better. The cold is finally loosening up and only used 1/4 of a box of kleenex today.
Have you ever had one of those days when nothing goes as planned, everything goes wrong and you think you just should have stayed in bed?
That was my day today! A simple trip to the produce store and the ATM turned out to take 3 hours. Thought I was going to be able to get both things done since there was an ATM right by the produce store, But when I got there, I discovered that the ATM had changed and you could not make deposits on that machine. So, got a few less groceries than planned and had to travel to an ATM at the other end of town.
Next, got home to do laundry, washed clothes put them in the dryer and after 40 minutes discovered most of the items were still damp. I now have clothes on chairs, etc to finish drying.
Then I get a phone message from a former co worker saying she found out about a going away party the school is having for me. She was definately the last person I wanted to hear from. She was one of those who is a true pain in the neck and seems to think she is your best friend.
OK, not done yet, then was putting away the coffee grounds after setting the coffee pot up for the morning. I guess the lid wasn't on tight and I ended up with coffee grounds all over the counter and kitchen floor.
Lastly, this silly computer is driving me crazy, I know I have dial up internet, but it is taking forever for anything to come up.
I'm about to call it quits for the day! I hope I'm safe and the rest of the week will be a good one!

Here I am at 61, (62 next week) and starting on a new adventure. After 34 years at the same school these are my last few days there. Starting July 1st I will be working at a new school site. It's exciting and scary at the same time.
Exciting, because I will get to see how things are done at a different site, and happy I won't have to put up with the principal I currently a have. She is a liar, a manipulator and very egotistical. The last few months have been horrible, you are afraid to say anything to anyone as she has rangled a few staff who tell her every little thing.
Scary, because I will be only working for 5 hours a day and not full time which means I will need to find another source of income to make ends meet. Also, since I rely on public transportation and the school is an early start I will be getting up at 4 a.m. to be out of the house by 5:40. Obviously I won't be working out in the morning.
Sad,because I love the teachers, parents and students at the school. I knew many of the parents when they came to school there. It is sad to know that all my hard work building a "Family community" at the school will go down the drain. They are very upset that the principal eliminated my position.
As part of my new adventure I decided to become team leader for the "Fabulous & Fit 60+ Sparkers" team (formerly Sher's Room 60+) I am hoping this will help me get back on track and again start being accountable for my health and fitness.
Wish me luck everyone! Change is NOT my favorite thing!

Finally, a successful week! Lost 4 pounds this week, thanks to being on Spring Break and being able to concentrate on taking care or ME!
I feel so much lighter both in body and spirit! What wonders having no stress makes. Now I just need to continue on this journey when I go back to work in 3 weeks.
I also started reading a new book called: "A Course in Weight Loss" I has to do with the spiritual and internal side of weight loss. It would be a good book for anyone with any kind of addicton to read. Whether it be food, drugs, alocohol, workaholic etc. Truthfully I don't know if reading had anything to do with this weeks success. But I will take it!
