I agree with what RedShoes said. I do much better if I stop thinking about what I can't do, and focus instead on figuring out what I CAN do. Maybe I can't run, but I can walk for 10minutes. I don't have to do "perfect"-- I only have to do "better than I used to".

No matter how bad I feel about my life circumstances, I know there are plenty of people who are worse off than me, who are getting up every day and doing their best with whatever it is they've got.

Start small. Small things done consistently, add up to BIG changes. Pick 3 things you're pretty confident you can do. Drink water. Eat 3 servings of fruit/vegetables. Do 10 minutes of some sort of exercise. There are a ton of exercise demo's and videos here on Spark. I did the chair cardio workout when I injured my thigh-- I skipped the "legs" part and just waved my arms around more, to get my heart rate up. It doesn't have to be an hour on a treadmill, to "count". It doesn't have to be time in the gym, to "count". I haven't set foot in a gym yet and I have no intention to. My exercise consists of walking, plus videos and demo's from Spark.

Remember that you do NOT have to try to be perfect. You only have to try to be better.

I am a traveling resthome helper and I get asked all the time by people whom a down for a little prospective on life. I ask people to look around them and think about the good stuff they have.. Switch on the television and watch the sorrow on the streets of the world.. Turn off the television and think to themselfs what blessings they do have..

I have lost a husband and have two ADHD teenagers, so do this regularly to avoid depression. I realised we have the choice to jump out of bed and say I choose to make this a good day.. Remember the expressions on people whom have less then we do and thank God for days where the choice is still up to ourselfs in many aspects of our lifes..

It is hard when you have painful knees, pain can shadow many aspects of our life but don't allow it to take over- modify exercise- do chair workouts. Perhaps try a swimming class with other ladies whom have issues with joints.. A problem is a challenge in working clothes.. I hope you met some wonderful ladies in your area on sparkspeople- perhaps ask for moral support in the groups on sparkspeople you have joined, I get regularly e-mails asking to stop by people to help them when in a difficult place..

I think that it helps to have a list of reasons why you want to lose weight and keep it where you can look at it. Some of my reasons are the following: For my self-esteem, I want to look nice, I don't want to get diabetes, I want my heart to be healthy (good cholesteral levels from losing weight and exercising and lowered blood pressure), losing weight will help with not getting certain types of cancer, and I will have more energy to do things. Exercise will even reduce stress and depression symptoms. You can borrow some of mine and add some of your own personal reasons. Remember you can do it, and that you are worth it. Best luck to you.

I tell you what. Go out and buy yourself a little black dress and hang on the outside of your closet. Set a goal for when you are going to wear it and go for it. Best of luck.
