first long run training for this half

Friday, February 15, 2013

DATE: 2/15/13
TIME: 3PM
WHERE: Weston Bend Park
DISTANCE: 5.34 miles
COMPANY: alone
TOTAL TIME: 1:17 hr/min
PACE: 13:36 min/mile
HEART RATE: 157-171 bpm
HEART RATE PERCENTAGE: 85-92%
CALORIES BURNED: 681 emoticon
WEATHER CONDITIONS: cold, breezy
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: this run made me REALLY miss bidwell park... i used to go trail running there and it was wonderful! weston bend--while being a nice little park--is no Bidwell. i had to run three different trails to get in the full 5 miles and they were all paved! oh, so sad! emoticon i miss real trails...
this was my first long run in preparing for the half this May--overall it went well. it was pretty cold--however it started snowing this evening so i guess that's why it felt cold! lol! i just kept my head down and pushed on and it worked out ok :-) next week--6 miles!

THIS is Bidwell Park in my hometown Chico CA:

run #... i don't remember.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

DATE: 1/29/13
TIME: 7:48AM
WHERE: on post
DISTANCE: 2.50 miles
COMPANY: alone
TOTAL TIME: 32:58min
PACE: 13:12 min/mile
HEART RATE: 162-181 bpm
HEART RATE PERCENTAGE: 88-98%
CALORIES BURNED: 308
WEATHER CONDITIONS: very cool, dry, sunny.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: awesome run! I have learned that knowing my heartrate improves my speed A LOT! like, my usually training pace is an 18min/mile--now it's a 12-13min/mile! YAY!! emoticon and another thing--i am really glad for the Garmin because it tells me how many calories i'm burning--SP estimated i only burn 171 cal this morning--my Garmin says 308! that's a BIG difference. all in all it was a good run--Lilly (my emoticon ) is still recovering from getting fixed--she's very put out that i haven't taken her running with me, but i don't want her getting hurt.
One major con i would say about the Garmin410--is it's not really user friendly... it's taken me several runs to get the settings about the way i want them, and i really dont' like the touch bezel thing--but the pros WAY out weigh the cons. i love getting all this data about my runs! it makes me so excited to go and do it again!!

little rewards.

Thursday, January 31, 2013

SO i've been thinking about what i want to do to reward myself when i reach a goal. I've decided that when i run my next emoticon i'm going to get a pedicure afterward (maybe not the same day, but within a few days.) and i'm thinking about getting a pare of Dansko emoticon when i reach 150lbs (again)--i've always wanted a pare, and 150 isn't my actual goal weight so getting clothes or something isn't really what i want to do. i think when i reach my goal of 135lbs i'll go out to buckel and get a pare of NICE Jeans emoticon--i used to have a pare of silvers that i LOVED! emoticon emoticon but when i got too small for them i gave them to a friend--i miss those jeans. but i don't want to spend the money on another pair that aren't going to fit for very long.
so there you have it--
emoticon ::Pedicure!
150# emoticon :: Danskos
140# emoticon :: emoticon
135# emoticon :: $100 Jeans!

any ideas for 140#?

the Garmin 410 and my new fire.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

DATE: 1/29/13
TIME: 7:45PM
WHERE: on post
DISTANCE: 2.77 miles
COMPANY: with Lilly (dog)
TOTAL TIME: 35:13min
PACE: 12:30 min/mile
HEART RATE: 161-168 bpm
HEART RATE PERCENTAGE: 87-91%
CALORIES BURNED: 420
WEATHER CONDITIONS: cold, wet, drizzling dark--perfect!
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: This was my maiden voyage with my new Garmin 410 that my hubby ordered me--i am IN LOVE! I realized that I am a lazy runner--most of the time i don't even get up to 75% of my possible heart rate--how lame is that? I watched where my heart rate was most of the time and found that it was easier to run faster then before (granted my 97lb dog was also helping me out). I'm so happy to have this new toy--it totally gives me hope that I can run and track and know what good I'm actually doing for my body. SO AWESOME!!

    Nice! I recently upgraded to the 610. Take a look at the foot pod. Focusing on cadence (steps per minute) will also help make you a better runner, one less likely to get injured.
