4 miles - 4 lessons learned

Friday, March 09, 2012

So my housemate and I are training for Bloomsday, a 7.5 mile race through Spokane. We are on week 4 0r 5 I think, and are steadily running about 4 miles!!! I'm extremely excited about this because the last two weeks have been hectic with school, and also because sickness has been going around. so I didn't think we were doing very well or getting any farther along in training.
Today, however, the sunny was shining, the ground was warm, and there was a nice breeze blowing, so I was excited for this run- whether we got any farther or not. The whole run was wonderful- we chatted the whole time, kept pace, and waved and joked with all those passing by.
It was a great workout, and when I tracked it via Sparkpeople maps I was pleasantly surprised to see we had run 4 miles! WOOHOO!
So here are 4 things I have learned while training:

1. ALWAYS stick to routine- consistency never ends!
2. Listen to your body- if your having a rough run, it's ok, at least your sticking to routine!
3. Just Do It! And a great way to do so is to have a running buddy!
4. Have fun! If you don't enjoy it, you'll stop doing it. True story.

Oops. Ignorance isn't bliss when your exercising!

Friday, February 17, 2012

Hey thanks for the birthday wishes! I haven't been around for a while, but I have continued to exercise and eat properly. Right now, I'm training with my housemate for a 10k- my first race ever! When I signed up for it, I thought it was a 5k. It wasn't lol. So now I just finished week 3 of my training, and have about 10 weeks to go!

I AM an athlete!

Friday, December 09, 2011

I'm so pumped! I can run 3 miles a week, have lost 7 lbs in 8 weeks, 8 INCHES around my waist (I had NO idea I had that much fat on me!), AND have gained the knowledge and structure to needed to bring out my inner athlete! Heck yeah, I'm an Olympian- check out these guns! I WILL be a runner, and I WILL make time for me. I cannot WAIT until I'm running Bloomsday (my first race ever!), reaching for that finish line, and never looking back.

Finals are

Friday, December 02, 2011

crazy! We have one more week of classes and them BAM! Out come the all-night cram sessions complete with energy drinks and whole lot of stress! Lucky for me I'm starting to study this week so I can have a healthy sleep schedule. :)
I've really trying to promote team participation in a team that I've been leading. It's slow, but people have been joining. Now I just have to get them to stay and play! Lol. I really want our team to be active and supportive of each other, and I understand that it can be hard to consistently log in, esp when you're in your first year of college and life is crazy! It's been really fun though, and I'm glad I have all of you supportive sparkers to help me when I'm down!

Good luck on finals! Sounds like you are doing it right, getting a jump on the studying. More sleep means the brain will function better! Good plan!
