Her "doggy bag" weighed 2 pounds, 7 ounces. YIKES!

Saturday, April 23, 2011

My daughter ordered spaghetti last night at a local diner. It came with a salad, garlic bread, and dessert. The order also had 4 HUGE meatballs - like 3 - 4 inches accross.

So, she ate her salad, a slice of bread, some of the pasta, and 1 meatball.... and she skipped dessert because she wasn't hungry anymore. So we took the rest of her meal home with her. When I lifted it up, I thought "Dang that's heavy!" So I put it on my kitchen scale when we got home. It weighed 2 pounds and 7 ounces!

I took home more than half of my meal, and my wife took home half of her meal, which size wise, was the smallest of all our meals.

I realize that it is up to the consumer to eat a healthy sized portion. I also realize that if restaurants served healthy sized portions they couldn't make money.

But it sure is an uphill battle for the folks who go to restaurants, when you consider that my 9 year old was probably given about 3.5 POUNDS of food as her meal. IMO, there just is no way to justify that for anybody. It's amazing, from my perspective, that anybody can stay thin these days if they go out to eat.

The food was good, but I don't think we can "afford", healthwise, to go back.

The restaurants these days seems to think its OK to charge more as long as there is more food served.......even McDonald' Super sizes!! Have you seen that documentary " Super size me" ? Worth the watch! Glad you are watching what you eat..... emoticon

If you could all eat the same thing you could order one meal, enjoy that and save money and calories! And, you might have room for a nice dessert.

When my sister and I go out now, we tend to get a dinner salad and an entree, and we split them. (I'm lucky that she and I have almost exactly the same taste in food.) And still sometimes it's too much food!

I thought I was cheating, but I guess not! WooHoo!

So, we had settlement at our new home, 2 weeks ago. But tomorrow is when all the heavy stuff gets moved in by the younger, stronger guys who get paid, LOL.... But for the last 6 weeks I have been packing, unpacking. loading, and unloading basically everyday.

I feel "fatter" than before all this moving started. I haven't been on a scale in 6 weeks. And today I was AFRAID to get on a scale, fearing the worst, but I made myself get on....

WooHoo! Down to 282.

I've been incredibly worn out and listless for these last few weeks. I guess it is old age and diabetes raging their ugly heads. Plus all the work of course. But I was feeling like I was eating nothing but what I shouldn't be. LOTS of CARBS..... bad for diabetics, but the fridge is at my old house until tomorrow, and carbs is pretty much all we have at the new house so far, so that is what I have been eating. Plus, I / we have been eating out a lot because no fridge here yet.... and I'm not the guy who will order salads at a restaurant, though I eat them often at home.

Also, my Apple computer is still at the other house, or I would have made a video blog. Hopefully I have that up here and running by the weekend.

I am pleasantly surprised by weight loss. I really expected at least a 5 pound gain. I'll take it and run!

Looking forward to getting back on plan. And working out again.

Miss you all!

Setback.

Last night was my twin daughter's annual Father - Daughter dance, only this year they made it a father - daughter "Swim, gym, and DJ dance".......

The dance part was just the final 45 minutes.... but it was the gym part that set me back. About a month ago I did something to my thigh. Not sure what, but it was painful going up steps and running. A few days ago I noticed that all the pain was gone. So, last night I was playing Star Wars Tag, and running Hula Skirt races, when my thigh gave out on me.... though today I seem fine except when going up steps.

I gotta tell you, playing Start Wars tag was much harder than the relay race.... I collapsed as I crossed the finish line, when my thigh gave out..... and i had to run the relay 2x.... once with each daughter. It gave out just as i was finishing my 2nd race..... I wish - or maybe I don't wish - I had a camera... I was running through the gym, wearing a hula skirt, carrying an inflatable duck pool toy, wearing a lei, and a huge set of sun glasses.... oh, and also carrying a small "boogie board".... and after that we played beach ball volleyball.

Not sure it was the smartest thing I ever did, but it was my twins final father daughter event in that school.

Oh, and the DJ 100% ROCKED THE HOUSE! ( I was the DJ... LOL ) But then again, I expect to be good. I DJ kids events for a living.

In spite of your thigh issues, it sounds like a wonderful time was had by all! Hey, Mr. DJ, play a little song for me. :-)

Salsa..... my entire dinner was salsa.

Monday, March 21, 2011

This was my entire dinner..... all of it...... it was just what i was in the mood for.... BTW, I don't really like fresh tomatoes, except in salsa. These were canned, but I frequently use fresh in the summer.

1 28 ounce can of plum tomatoes - preferably from San Marzano..... juice rinsed off.
1/2 diced red onion
1 TBS olive oil
2 chipotles in adobo sauce
1 TBS taco seasoning
1 or 2 habaneros.... usually 1, chopped fine
2 tsp MINCED garlic
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 can of corn --- optional.... I did NOT add this tonight.
2 - 3 TBS of chopped cilantro

Pulse it all in a blender. Pour it into a strainer to let the juice drain out. Then add the juice of 1, or even 2 limes.
