Volunteerism is good.

Saturday, February 12, 2011

I joined the Benton County Historical Society last year and was elected to the office of Secretary and Archivist. I have a lot to learn about the archivist job. I will get better with taking minutes and other duties of secretary. I spent a couple of hours at the BCHS office yesterday typing the latest meeting minutes. I still have the board minutes to type also. I enjoy office work even though I was a nurse for 30 years. I always enjoyed the paper/computer work involved in nursing also. I enjoy quality assurance and policies and procedures so look forward to doing what I enjoy for the historical society. I did not enjoy history much in highschool until I had a really good teacher that made it interesting.
I want to learn more about where I live now and also plan to learn more about family history. I've tried the genealogy search before and it is a challenge I look forward to.

Retired

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

I retired on Monday 1/31/11. Then the snow came. We have at least a foot of snow maybe more. I went out for the mail Tuesday during the blizzard and got a workout. I shoveled the walkway around the garage then plowed through the rest. I needed the shovel to use as a walking stick. When I got to the top of the hill the wind almost blew the shovel out of my hand. I made it back but it was cold.
I'll go out again today. I also walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes on Tuesday.
Yea!!!

Starting again

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Well, I have not done as I said I would. I plan to do better soon. I have been sick with bronchitis the past week and a half. I am starting to feel better but hate to start exercising for fear of coughing. I used my chi machine though. I hope that will start helping my core among other things. Advertisements say that it can help restless leg syndrome. I need to start tracking what it does for me.
I will measure tonight after work and continue with that monthly (as I originally planned).
The countdown is getting closer. I am retiring on January 31, 2011. Only 6 days away. I have 4 days left to work at my workplace. I am working one day at Edward Jones though.
I am excited. God is helping me be at peace with this decision and I know he will see us through any financial hardships that may come.
We have a lot of work to do around the old homeplace and storage units. Bills are paid but we're working on getting baby step 3 in place. Then I will also start working on an education fund. I really still want to have my own wholistic business of Touch For Health and learn more about nutrition to feel comfortable giving advice. Lord help me with this aspect of my new life during retirement. I will not be idle. I will learn more about the Lord and what his will is for my life.

I just bought a chi machine after doing a lot of research. I got a deal on ebay. Do you use yours ofter and if so do you feel its benefical? I used mine today for the first time and I'm hopeful. If nothing else I hope it gets me moving in the morning and relaxes me at night.

Congrats on retirement!!

Beginning exercise

Monday, September 27, 2010

I am committing to walk 1 mile a day at least 5 days per week. I started by walking during my lunch hour at the office parking lot. We don't have stairs so I can't do that. I'll have to bring a walking video to work and do that during lunch on rainy days. Or, walk in the rain with an umbrella. I don't want to miss even one day so I'll need to plan my time well. I'll try to remember to get out my portable CD player for Lesli Sansone or cassette and use the Richard Simmons walking tapes. I'm talking myself into getting excited. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Spark mail me with encouragement, please.

New work hours

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

I started working 5 days a week again this week. I cut back to 4 days in 2009, then 3, then 2. They needed additional help in Hospice so went back to 3. Since I'm on the Dave Ramsey FPU I was quite concerned about how to pay the bills with DH help and prayed about it. God gave me some ideas to propose at work and they allowed me to go back to 5 days a week. Hallelujah. I'm working on an inservice for the entire dept. and seeing clients again. I still get to do my first love and bereavement. Thank you Lord. emoticon

I'll miss talking to you more and the kids will miss having more days with you when they come down. But, it's just one more year and then we can talk and visit whenever we want. Well, when WE aren't busy with music, scouts, birthdays, etc... emoticon
