Juicing Journey

Thursday, May 31, 2012

I had to suspend the juice fast for a variety of reasons -- travel, mostly. I also started dealing with body aches, dry, cracked lips and fatigue. My first comittment is to my workouts, and I felt it was impeding my ability to workout each morning. I still plan to incorporate many fresh juices into my daily diet, and I'll probably be doing a fast day once a week -- we'll see. Until then, I'm going to focus on cleaning up my diet and getting in as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.

Sounds like a good plan--still working towards incorporating more fresh juice, but listening to your body.

30-Day Juicing Journey -- Day 6

Monday, May 21, 2012

After deciding to take the weekends off, I'm back to juicing, and I have to say, it was difficult to get back into the swing of things. I'm still dealing with pretty serious cravings -- for chicken McNuggets of all things???

It helps not to allow yourself to get too hungry. I know I didn't drink enough fresh juice today. But my appetite for juice usually goes up the longer I'm drinking it, so I'm sure the rest of the week will go better. Hopefully.

I tried Smoothie King for the first time today. I did their Pineapple Pleasure. It was alright. I still think the smoothies I do at home are better. Looking forward to the smoothie my husband calls the 'Orange Julius' in the morning --- Orange/Pineapple/Strawberry. It's the best. Mornings are always best. Fruit smoothies, no cravings. I'll have to figure out how to make evenings a little more enjoyable.

Here's to happy juicing!

30-Day Juice Journey -- Weekend Edition

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Just a quick note to say that I decided to do a 5-day a week fast for a month rather than 30 days straight. I've been hearing so much about the 'bounce-back effect' where people put on weight after juice fasts because they've been deprived for so long. So, we're taking it easy on the weekends, and I'm actually looking forward to getting back to juicing tomorrow. See you then.

Here's to happy juicing!

I've been thinking about juicing more (I do smoothies a lot and juice now and then) ... I'll look forward to following this journey! Good luck! Sounds like you're doing a smart thing by building in some balance for yourself ... hope it helps.

30-Day Juice Journey -- Day 5

Friday, May 18, 2012

Well, I'm sitting here sipping my orange/pineapple/strawberry ginger juice this morning, and I have to say mornings are always a highlight for me. The juice is better. My energy is higher (except during my TaeBo workout), and I'm not experiencing hunger.

I've gone down about 4.5 lbs. total since I started. Not bad at all. Honestly, I haven't observed any health benefits yet. I'm still kind of sluggish, and my allergies are still rearing their ugly head. But it's only day 5, so I'm optimistic.

I should probably be drinking more water. I've been sipping on cucumber water, but I'm getting a little weary of it. I may switch over to orange water today (sliced up oranges in water). Gives plain water a little 'kick'.

My husband liked this morning's juice very much. He said it tasted like an Orange Julius. He's juicing 3 days a week with me. I had hoped he would do the whole month, but this is our compromise. I told him this afternoon's juice would likely not be as tantalizing. Sad face.

I'm going to try to go by the recipes of experienced juicers more often so I don't end up with some of these Frankenstein concoctions I've been coming up with that are a little difficult to ingest.

I've been making a habit of going to YouTube and watching vlogs from people who have done juice fasts. Today, I'll watch a collection of videos from day 5 of other juicers. It's really been helping me to get in the mindset of what to expect from day to day.

I have to admit, I've been getting a little impatient lately -- just wanting to be further along in the process of juicing, healthy living and weight loss in general. I'll be working on getting my focus tuned, and enjoying the process more.

Symptoms I'm experiencing today: Dry lips, sluggishness, allergies

Still waiting for the high-energy thing to kick in. Enjoying my morning juice cocktail in the meantime.

Here's to happy juicing!

30-Day Juice Journey -- Day 4

Friday, May 18, 2012

Hello there,

Checking in for day 4 of my 'juice feast'. Day four was a little better than day 3. I've been watching lots of YouTube videos on juice fast/feasting, and many people report experiencing headaches, moodiness, irritability, etc. on days 3 & 4. I experienced none of these things. I have experienced sluggishness, listlessness and achiness. I feel as though I have a low-grade flu. When I get really still, I feel an overall achiness in my body like when you're getting sick. I've experienced this for the last 2 days. Maybe it's what my former nutrition teacher used to refer to as a 'healing crisis'. Not sure.

I can report that the constipation is gone. At least for today. We'll see how tomorrow works out. Complicating things is the fact that I'm on an antibiotic for a throat infection. I don't think the achiness is related to that, but the relief from the restroom issues may be. Sorry if that's TMI, but that's the kind of thing I'd want to know if I were considering a juice fast.

TaeBo was fine this morning. I wasn't particularly sluggish until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I just felt like I was recovering from some kind of sickness. Just generally weary.

The juices have not been exciting so far. I'll have to really start researching some interesting recipes. I did a juice 'icee' this evening that I actually enjoyed. Didn't get to work any ginger into the plan today. Maybe tomorrow.

Still dealing with occasional cravings, and trying to accept that I won't be eating any solid food until 6/14. I don't think the desire to eat will ever leave, but it's nothing I can't manage. I feel strong, overall.

Here's to happy juicing!

Days 3&4 of eliminating any food tend to be hard--whether it's headaches or sluggishness...

You sound like you're really making this work! (I love the thought of adding ginger to just about anything...)
