being a nervous nelly....

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

well tomorrow is the day, total knee replacement surgery. kinda nervous about it. I know all there is to know about this surgery, but being a Nurse doesn't make it easier. Everybody is telling me , don't worry, but the more they say it, the worse it gets. At least the hospital move the surgery time from 11 am to 845 am. Probably won't sleep tonight. emoticon

Sending good thoughts your way. I thought it was going to be really painful, but compared to my hip surgery I thought the knee was a lot easier. I can't stress enough how important doing the exercises is. Bend that knee and keep it moving! I love my new knee!! It does everything my old one did and I can even get on my hands and knees with it. (foam kneeler under it of course). emoticon

Thinking of you of course!! Surgery is a 'big' deal for us - I mean it's not something we do everyday -- or even every week or month!! Just keep thinking how GOOD it will feel very soon (no, not right after!) You'll be doing cartwheels -- ok maybe only backflips?? LOL...Keep us posted when you get back!

You will do great! My Aunt said the thing that helped her the most afterward was having a desk chair that wheeled all over the place. She said she just about wore it out. I convinced a dear friend to have knee replacement when she was 87 years old. I asked her how old she would be if she didn't have it! Afterward, she was so glad and wished she had done it sooner. Then she had her other knee done! I repeat..YOU will do great! emoticon emoticon

Hooray for being close to the top on the surgery schedule. At least you won't have to starve! Once it's all over with, you'll get on that machine and it will work the soreness out for you! You'll be back in the swing of things in no time! I know several people who have had it done, and their only regret was not having it done sooner! Good luck tomorrow!

Lazy Sunday

Sunday, February 12, 2012

well this was a lazy Sunday, just chilling @ the house. Watching TV for most of the day, talking to my sons on the phone. But my thoughts are on the surgery. I know I have nothing to worry about, but it is a major thing in my life right now and it weighs heavy on my mind.
But I am still sticking with my plan to loose weight and exercise a little each day. My husband is still working on his plan, his blood sugar is coming down and getting close to normal. But he walks each day with the dog for about 2 miles. I just wish I could join him. But I guess I will be soon enough. emoticon

getting it together....

Friday, February 10, 2012

getting ready for my surgery next week, went to doctor today ,made sure all my ducks are in a row. Everything good to go. I expect to be in the hospital for about 3 days. I will come straight home. Since I am a Nurse and my husband is a Nurses Aid, we can handle my care . Probably better than any Rehab Facility.( I know ,I work in one). emoticon
It's going to be some hard and painful work , to be able to walk again. But all the patients ,that I talked to , said it was worth it. I just can't wait to be able to move with less pain.
I am so grateful for all the support from all my friends right here on Spark people and all friends and family . emoticon emoticon

I wish you all the best on your surgery and my prayers and thoughts will be with you!! emoticon The recovery is hard but it is worth it in the long run. Just stay positive and remember that I am here if you need a shoulder to lean on (as long as it is not my right shoulder-recovering from my surgery - ha ha!).

Will be thinking of you of -- keep us posted. I came home the day after my surgery...dh was here to help me so it worked for us! You'll do fine. And YES it is so worth it not to have that pain. When we went to Disney in October - my knees were fine but I got blisters on my FEET from all the walking - so the last day had to use a wheel chair b/c it hurt so bad!! (blisters not knees!!) Crazy but it was wonderful!!

I know how important exercising is ibefore surgery -- the stronger you are going in -- the easier time you'll have after. But remember -- moderation -- don't overdue a good thing!!

surgery date is inching forward

Monday, February 06, 2012

well the date for my surgery is getting closer and closer. February 15th is the big day. I don't know how to feel about it. I have assisted with so many Knee Replacements while I worked in the OR . I know what's all involved, but I still worry. I just hoping and praying that everything will go good and that I will recover soon.
So this week ,I am getting ready, mentally and physically for the surgery. Making sure everything is taken care of, from the animals to the kids. Trying to stock the fridge and freezer with some good wholesome food for the family.

I'm sure everything will go fine. Very important to do all the therapy after surgery. Had my first TKR about 22 months ago and everything went great. No problem bending or extending knee. Cousin had hers replaced too but thought therapy was too hard so kinda gave up. She still has problems bending it. My surgery is scheduled for the 13th and must say really looking forward to it. Have been working hard on recumbent bike and daily knee exercises to get ready.

GOOD LUCK looking forward to hearing a progress report. emoticon

Wishing you well on your upcoming knee replacement. Take your pills and exercise as much as you can before your operation to strengthen your quads. PT will play a major role in your recovery. I had my knee replaced one year ago and it was the best thing I've done for me. Will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.
