one week post - op

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

One week ago I had my knee surgery. today I have more energy and walking pretty good. I want to walk in the Drive Way today. But I will have to wait until my husband gets home, just in case. Still having pain , but it is manageable. Had to take all my rugs and put them up, kept on sliding and tripping.
My husband is been great. He cooks healthy meals and takes care of the house.Just sometimes he he wants to help too much, lol.
To the doctor tomorrow and see what's going on.
Thank you all my friends for your support. emoticon

I hope you got your walk in when DH got home...the more you walk, the better you'll do. Don't forget those darn knee exercises! If you hurt, take a pain pill...that's what they are for. You heal better and faster if you aren't in pain! Sounds like you are doing great!

Bet you're glad the surgery is over and you're on the road to recovery. Glad you moved the rugs -- they can be dangerous. Take it easy -- hope the walk in the driveway went well!!

being a nervous nelly....

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

well tomorrow is the day, total knee replacement surgery. kinda nervous about it. I know all there is to know about this surgery, but being a Nurse doesn't make it easier. Everybody is telling me , don't worry, but the more they say it, the worse it gets. At least the hospital move the surgery time from 11 am to 845 am. Probably won't sleep tonight. emoticon

Sending good thoughts your way. I thought it was going to be really painful, but compared to my hip surgery I thought the knee was a lot easier. I can't stress enough how important doing the exercises is. Bend that knee and keep it moving! I love my new knee!! It does everything my old one did and I can even get on my hands and knees with it. (foam kneeler under it of course). emoticon

Thinking of you of course!! Surgery is a 'big' deal for us - I mean it's not something we do everyday -- or even every week or month!! Just keep thinking how GOOD it will feel very soon (no, not right after!) You'll be doing cartwheels -- ok maybe only backflips?? LOL...Keep us posted when you get back!

You will do great! My Aunt said the thing that helped her the most afterward was having a desk chair that wheeled all over the place. She said she just about wore it out. I convinced a dear friend to have knee replacement when she was 87 years old. I asked her how old she would be if she didn't have it! Afterward, she was so glad and wished she had done it sooner. Then she had her other knee done! I repeat..YOU will do great! emoticon emoticon

Hooray for being close to the top on the surgery schedule. At least you won't have to starve! Once it's all over with, you'll get on that machine and it will work the soreness out for you! You'll be back in the swing of things in no time! I know several people who have had it done, and their only regret was not having it done sooner! Good luck tomorrow!

Lazy Sunday

Sunday, February 12, 2012

well this was a lazy Sunday, just chilling @ the house. Watching TV for most of the day, talking to my sons on the phone. But my thoughts are on the surgery. I know I have nothing to worry about, but it is a major thing in my life right now and it weighs heavy on my mind.
But I am still sticking with my plan to loose weight and exercise a little each day. My husband is still working on his plan, his blood sugar is coming down and getting close to normal. But he walks each day with the dog for about 2 miles. I just wish I could join him. But I guess I will be soon enough. emoticon

That was kind of like my Sunday!! (except I did have to make cookies for my daughters' class) Good for dh - that will surely be incentive for you to 'get better' fast after your surgery!!I'm well enough to go out with dh on his walks but now I don't always WANT to.....how lazy is that??!!!!

getting it together....

Friday, February 10, 2012

getting ready for my surgery next week, went to doctor today ,made sure all my ducks are in a row. Everything good to go. I expect to be in the hospital for about 3 days. I will come straight home. Since I am a Nurse and my husband is a Nurses Aid, we can handle my care . Probably better than any Rehab Facility.( I know ,I work in one). emoticon
It's going to be some hard and painful work , to be able to walk again. But all the patients ,that I talked to , said it was worth it. I just can't wait to be able to move with less pain.
I am so grateful for all the support from all my friends right here on Spark people and all friends and family . emoticon emoticon

I wish you all the best on your surgery and my prayers and thoughts will be with you!! emoticon The recovery is hard but it is worth it in the long run. Just stay positive and remember that I am here if you need a shoulder to lean on (as long as it is not my right shoulder-recovering from my surgery - ha ha!).

Will be thinking of you of -- keep us posted. I came home the day after my surgery...dh was here to help me so it worked for us! You'll do fine. And YES it is so worth it not to have that pain. When we went to Disney in October - my knees were fine but I got blisters on my FEET from all the walking - so the last day had to use a wheel chair b/c it hurt so bad!! (blisters not knees!!) Crazy but it was wonderful!!
