Another recap day. Wow!

As I said July 4th I stayed home and enjoyed peace and quiet while Mike and the boys went to the Independence Day celebration festivities. I am glad that I did. The migraine never did fully take hold! Woo hoo!

Saturday, July 5th - I started the day with PiYo: Sweat. Wow! It definitely earns it's name. I was sweating and it felt great. The only downside - burpees. They are slower ones, but still. Luckily the modifier does something different. I may try them eventually, but I just hate burpees! After breakfast and my shower I headed to Greenfield to get groceries. I was still debating whether or not to go do some shopping in Des Moines, so I figured that I'd get the groceries and get them home and put away while I thought about it. I did end up going. Mike and the boys headed off on a bike ride and I headed for Des Moines. I got three pairs of capris at Kohls, wandered both Valley West and Jordan Creek malls, had a yummy slice of cheesecake and got a few things at Target. A good pre-birthday fun day for me! I even still had some quiet time once I got home!

Sunday, July 6th - My 42nd birthday. Wow! Didn't do a lot, but it was a fun day. It started with church, then we went to Creston and had lunch at the Pizza Ranch (I had a coupon for free buffet for Jacob, plus my birthday $5 off - gotta love that rewards card!). So yummy. It had been a while since we had eaten there, so it was nice for a change. Yes, I know not the healthiest, but it was my birthday! I had a quiet afternoon at home and then we went out for a Bronco ride. I miss doing that. I started out with a hat on, but the way the wind was blowing, I finally gave up and let my hair fly! It was a great day!

Monday, July 7th - 1st day of Basketball Camp for Jacob. He'd been looking forward to this since last sumer! So he had camp in the morning and Matthew had an all day camp. His camp was a trip to Springbrook State Park. They did archery, kayaking and a bunch of other outdoor things. He had a great time. My quiet morning - I did laundry and cleaned. LOL! After picking Jacob up we met my mom for another birthday lunch. It was great to see her!

Tuesday, July 8th - Basketball Camp for Jacob and Matthew had Battle of the Books in the afternoon. I am starting to give Matthew a little bit more freedom (now that he's 11). He stayed home while I took Jacob to camp and then went to work for a little bit. It was probably about 1-1/2 hours. The funny thing is that he called me 4 times! But, he did get a lot accomplished on his 4-H project for the fair next week.

Today is Jacob's busy day. He starts with basketball camp and then I pick him up and take him right to Clover Kids Camp. He's missing the morning part of that, but he should be there just in time to eat and finish out the day. Then tonight it's work and practice for me.

In other news, PiYo is going well. Today was day 8 (day 5 was a rest day) and I'm feeling pretty good. I know that I'm not super far into it yet, but I am enjoying the workouts. My eating is still up and down. I've had really good days, average days and then of course a few splurges for my birthday. I am working on it though!

    Happy Belated Birthday Kellie! I'm so behind on my Sparking that I haven't even been reading my SparkPage replies, etc. Summer is really flying by, though, with all that I've been trying to do in addition to working and being a Mom!

    Sounds like you are busy, but with good stuff, Kellie!! That's the age Tony was when we began to leave him home alone for an hour or so at a time. I was surprised at first at how well he did..glad Matthew is handling it well, too. 42! You are a baby!! Well, at least to this old lady you are!!

Glad you are enjoying your new exercise routine. I know somewhere there was discussion about this, it is pilates and yoga? Sounds like it would kill me if it is, but I'll bet it's right up your alley!!

Well, today was day 3 of PiYo and I will tell you that I am noticing some sore muscles - mostly my shoulders and upper back. Woo hoo! I am definitely loving it!

So, I suppose that I should recap the past few days. Wednesday went smoothly. Jacob had a day camp for the day, so it was just Matthew and I. I had work in the morning and then practice in the evening. My eating went well - I put a lot of planning into it and that helped. Other than laundry, I didn't get a lot of cleaning done.

Thursday was a little bit crazier. I started out with my workout and planned my meals for the day. Then while getting my Spark stuff done, I noticed the tell-tale sign of a migraine coming on. I hate aura migraines. Luckily I noticed, so I immediately took some Excedrin Migraine to nip it in the bud. Then it was off to work to print the bulletins. It was a rough afternoon with the boys. I don't know why, but they always seem to act worse when I don't feel well. The bonus is that Mike and the boys headed to Clearfield for the Truck & Tractor pull so I was able to enjoy a great evening to myself! Definitely needed and wonderful!

Today started early. Mike and Matthew had to head out for Scouts to put up flags around Greenfield. I got my workout done (added a bonus walking workout) and had my healthy breakfast. I have managed to keep the migraine at bay, but I decided to stay at home while Mike and the boys headed to all of the 4th of July celebration in Massena. I figured that it would make more sense to stay home to keep it at bay. So, I'm enjoying some more quiet time and so far the migraine hasn't taken complete hold. Yay!

So, July has been off to a great start! Woo hoo!

Today was such an amazing day. And to think that it all started with a funeral. The mother of our Praise Team leader passed away last Thursday and the funeral was this morning. It was not a surprise because her health had been failing and they had put her on hospice care. Anyway, Bob had already asked the Praise team if we would be willing to lead the music for the service (and of course me playing the piano for all of it). During Pastor's sermon he commented that this was a "trail-blazing" service because we did 5 Contemporary Christian songs. For those of you familiar with the music we did Laura Story's "Blessings", Matt Maher's "Lord, I Need You", Chris Tomlin's "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone), "The King is Coming" (can't tell you off the top of my head who it's by - the 4 men sing it as a quartet) and we ended with Building 429's "Where I Belong". So we had drums, we had guitar, we had most of the Praise team singers. I still have chills, that is how powerful of a service it was. We all know that Mildred was enjoying every moment of it, now that she is reunited with her husband and son and of course, Jesus. Wow!

Anyway, the weather today was absolutely gorgeous. That was definitely needed after all the rain and storms we have had over the past week. We were extremely lucky yesterday. The major part of one storm system was just 15-20 miles north of us. They got golf ball size hail (and a lot of it - you could shovel it!) and a possible tornado. It got really dark here (so dark that the yard light came on), but we just got the downpour and a little bit of pea-sized hail. And, we got home from my sister's (getting my baby niece fix!) just as the rain started. I am grateful that we were home before it got too bad. So today was wonderful. Sunshine, low humidity and temps in the upper 70s. That is my kind of weather!

Eating was fairly good today, even with eating at the luncheon after the funeral. i definitely did not stuff myself. Supper was salmon with brown rice, sauteed peppers and onions and steamed spinach. Yummy!

Tomorrow I start PiYo! I am excited and a little bit scared at the same time. I have watched the first few videos (the first day starts with learning alignment and terms, but is still a workout) and they don't look too bad, but I'm sure that my muscles will be screaming at me! I'm debating on some of the shorter days (one workout is only about 20 minutes) adding a walking video or something else. We'll see. I'll try the first week and go from there.

So, that was my first day of July. Overall, a pretty good day.

I cannot believe that it is the last day of June! 2014 is half over!

So, overall I stuck with my goals for June. Portions were better, but still need improvement. Working out - again, not a problem there. It's habit anymore, so I really don't have to "force" myself. My only problem is trying to decide what to do. As for trying to stay positive and have a good summer with the boys, it's going okay. There are still days that I so want a break, but I remind myself that this time together is good for us.

Weight stayed pretty much the same. I'm almost wondering if something else is wrong (health-wise, even though I feel fine). I do my workout, I mostly watch what I eat, I drink my water. So, why have I gained this 10 pounds and why won't it go away? So frustrating! But I'm trying something new for July.

Here are my goals:

1. Nutrition: portion control - really need to get back on track with this. I do so well at the start of the day, but get a little slack at the end of the day. I'm still working on cutting out some of the process "junk", but I allow myself a treat now and then (and considering that my birthday is this Sunday.....)

2. Fitness: this one I'm excited about! Chalene Johnson has come out with a new workout set. PiYo! I know that it's not "new, new" because she's been teaching it for a while, but she finally put it on DVDs. I am so excited to start on Wednesday (that's so that my rest day will be on Sunday). It's a fusion of Pilates and Yoga, but there is more movement to it. I just can't wait!

3. Personal: oh boy, I have no clue. I know, back to working on decluttering and cleaning each day. Since the boys are home for the summer, it makes it tougher to get it done, but I just need to do it!

So, there we have it. My goals for my birthday month! I'm hoping that this new workout (and making sure that I'm getting the proper fuel) will get that scale moving down again. I need to get toned up again (especially that lovely belly area).

On a side note, does anyone have any suggestions for me pertaining to exercising and calories. Since I wear my BodyMedia Fit Band and I count all of my activity minutes (I tend to do a lot of walking around so that I get my steps in), my calorie count that I should eat goes up. So my question is (and this is what I try to do), do I stick with a base of 1500 calories, or follow what my tracker tells me? It seems like neither way is working right now. I do try to stay in the 1500-1700 calorie range, but maybe I should try to go lower. I just don't know. I'm frustrated with this 10 pounds since I really haven't been going completely overboard all the time - so why did I gain it back? Is it a "side-effect" from my lymph node surgery (my right thigh is still just a little bit "thicker" than my left one)? Am I not getting enough to eat? Am I eating too much? Hopefully I can get things figured out, but I am welcome to any suggestions!

    Thanks for the sleep comments. My band monitors and lately I've been averaging between 6 and 7-1/2 hours of fairly good sleep. I will have stretches where I feel like I wake up constantly, but the past few weeks have been pretty good. I have thought the same thing too.

Janet - I am working on switching some foods up. I get stuck in ruts with what I eat for breakfast and lunch, but supper always changes.

    I would suggest that you look at your sleep. Are you getting enough sleep, because if you are not, it can hinder weight loss. I know that when my fitbit syncs with Spark People, it gives me way more exercise minutes than I would count. But I also know that most of them come from my active job, and that to achieve true fitness, I must do activities "over and above" my "normal" or what my body is used to.

I can't help you with the eating part, because that is where I struggle. I do know (am educated) that less processed food is better for you, fill up on low-cal fresh veggies and fruit, and drink plenty of water. Watermelon should be in season soon, and it is a fruit that you get a lot of volume for your calories.

Good luck, and remember to look for the Non-Scale Victories.

Well, we survived our vacation! We left the 2nd after Mike got home and headed for St. Louis. We got there just before midnight and found a hotel to crash at. The next morning we were up bright and early for the yummy hot breakfast the hotel provided. Then we headed for the Big Foot 4X4 Shop/Museum. Jacob loved that! Then we headed for the arch. The boys decided that they didn't want to go up in it, so we just wandered around the museum and got a lot of pictures outside. Then it was back in the car to head for Lawrenceburg. The trip was pretty uneventful, except for hitting Louisville right at rush hour. Good grief! We got to Kristie and Jeff's just in time for supper!

Day 2 - Kristie took us to Lexington to Hagyard Equine facility where she works. She showed us around then we grabbed some lunch before heading to the mall (yep some shopping!). Then it was back to the house and we just relaxed.

Day 3 - Jeff took us to Salata Wildlife Center near Frankfort. We saw all sorts of animals that are native to Kentucky. We even got to see two baby bison!

Day 4 - Matthew's birthday! We were on our own while they were getting wedding stuff ready, so we took off to Frankfort. We visited the Capitol, the old Capitol, the Capitol Museum and went hiking at the Capitol View Park. That night was the rehearsal dinner and the rehearsal.

Day 5 - wedding day! Beautiful ceremony and fun reception!

Day 6 - traveling day! We made the whole trip home in one day. Long day without a lot of activity. Definitely glad to be home!

Monday - Jacob's birthday! Mostly a quiet day at home. Mike still had the day off, so they were out and about. I got laundry done and did some cleaning. We took him out for ice cream after supper.

Yesterday - vacation over! Mike back at work, and I had to go in to the church. Overall a pretty good day.

So, we had a great vacation! My great news is that even with a little bit less activity (only did "real" workouts Saturday and Sunday - the rest were just from walking around) and some major indulging, I maintained my weight for the week. Whew!! Now it's back on track and back in routine. Can't wait for the next vacation though!

    Wow, you were really, really busy! Congrats on your maintenance while traveling.

Were the boys afraid of the height of the Arch? A lady I work with took her Granddaughter up in it and she talked about how scary it was. I'm not sure that I could do it, either, but it would be awesome to see.
