Paleo Day 7

Saturday, January 07, 2012

Today is Day 7 of Paleo and I am VERY thankful to be on track again! My meals starting out yesterday looked like this:

Meal 1: Mexican eggs..same as yesterday...YUM emoticon
Meal 2: Leftovers of chicken and kale soup...all gone now

I went to get my daughter from school. She is getting an award next Wednesday at school that she doesn't know about and I wanted to get her hair done. So we are at the salon, and DH calls and says lets go to dinner..use our date night. I think about it..we are only going out once a month now to save some $$$ and keep me on track more...So I say okay.

I have been SO GOOD all week...not one cheat. So we get to the local restaraunt and I always get the Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp or salmon (my choice last night was shrimp) and their Nick's dressing on the side which consists of olive oil, garlic, fresh lemon, and parsley ( I figured out their recipe and make my own now at home ). I did have 4 chicken wings..not a normal choice for me AT ALL...and 1 roll...I've had NO BREAD OR WHEAT ALL WEEK! 2 glasses of wine and one coffee with some Baileys.

This morning...woah is my tummy! Year's ago when we followed Body for Life and had our cheat meal, our bodies reacted to the foods the same way! It is a true testament to clean eating..then you ingest the non goods and WATCH OUT!!!!!!

So this morning I'm super glad to be back on track both exercise wise and eating wise. My day is filled with soccer an hour away, picking up more paleo eats for the week ( client brought me fresh turnip greens from her garden so I'm going to be making a big PALEO batch of greens emoticon, and a visit to the hospital to check on Dad's spirits.

He was good yesterday. The nuclear test was done on his ankle. This will tell us whether there is any infection surrounding the bone. If not, when the cardiologist gives us the all clear, we can proceed with surgery. He does still worry me a tad. He was seeing things yesterday..like ghosts. Not sure what that means..maybe his guardian angels?

Have a GREAT FITNESS filled weekend!!!! Glad to be back to paleo and my clean and HEALING foods. If you are interested at all in changing your health, I suggest reading the book WHEAT BELLY! It just gets more interesting each day that I'm reading new information. For me..more veggies, and I will REALLY never eat the wheat grown in today's world...NOT worth at the cost of my entire system..from our bones to our tummys.

Now I am wondering if our stores have discounted cranberries! A year in the freezer! Fantastic. Here is my question.

I do smoothies with egg whites, milk, spinach, protein powder and then a cup of fruit, usually a berry - would cranberries work the same as raspberries or would that be too tart?

Paleo Challenge Day 6

Friday, January 06, 2012

So day 6 and what do I notice other than a flatter belly and not feeling bloated? I have TONS more energy mentally and physically! Most of you who have read my stuff know that I am certified in nutrition. Paleo goes against all that I am certified in to counsel my clients, but I the way grain is grown now versus back when the Egyptians introduced grains into modern diet, it's not the same grain at all!

Back in 1970, a scientist created a grain that took less to process when ready in the fields, it was shorter, and drought resistant. Grain from DAYS LONG AGO carried none of the characteristics of today's wheat. Yes our ancestors ate wheat, but Paleolitic times did not. They ate meat, greens, fruit and nuts...what they had readily available. If you have any interest in Paleo, start reading the book WHEAT BELLY. This doctor discusses paleo and wheat in detail as well as the effects modern day wheat has on our body. It might just make you begin to LISTEN to YOUR OWN body when you do eat wheat products.

My meals for yesterday:

Meal 1: Mexican eggs: 1 whole egg, 2 whites scrambled with tomato, onion. I added jalapenos and avocado and 2 slices canadian bacon

Meal 2: chicken salad on top of a whole sliced tomato

Meal 3: CE Chicken and Kale soup..without any cheese

Meal 4: Cashews...soccer night for my little one so snack had to travel well in the car.

Exercise: Chest and back supersets, abs, and pullups

For those messaging me, Dad is still in the hospital. They have readjusted his drugs to try and level his heart and want to monitor him a few days...HURRAAAAY! He seems to be in fairly good spirits. I will head up there in a bit to visit with him and see if he has been following doctor's orders. He has a tendency to do exactly opposite of what the doctor says...hence why we are in the predicament we are currently in!

Before I sign off, thought I would offer up a stat I read yesterday: If you eat healthy all week long just to lose it all over the weekend, those weekend long cheats can result in a weight gain of 9 pounds over a one year period! Told DH we are only going out to eat once a month from here on out!!!!!!!!!

Have a GREAT FITNESS FILLED weekend!!!!

Paleo sounds interesting. Weekend cheat days come with a heavy price it appears.

We made a frittata last night of bacon, onions, red peppers, mushrooms, spinach and eggs. Delish! One of my Paleo favs! I'm glad to hear your tummy is happy, too! I noticed the flatter tummy right off the bat! WooHoo! You go girl!
