A Healthy Fresh Start

Monday, January 07, 2013

Made great progress in 2011 - losing almost 70 pounds and making some lasting food changes. During 2012, I slipped on the exercise and have gained back 23 pounds. This cannot last....so here I am. Refocus. What is important. Health. Me. Without that I won't have anything else including my life.

As always, a refocus REQUIRES me to start logging every bit of food I eat. And that leads to getting some exercise so I can log that too. One of those nice circles.

Need to shop for a stationary bicycle or join a gym. Left knee is bone-on-bone now, so the treadmill and elliptical are out until the knee is replaced. Which I am postponing until I lose more weight.

I injured my knee for a couple weeks in February of last year. But gradually got back into walking habits. I walked at a slower rate and fewer day of the week on the treadmill but did complete.

Hope things improve!

Still making progress!

Thursday, March 03, 2011

One day at a time, one choice at a time. I am eating according to my plan, exercising regularly except for the three day hold I am on medically. In the middle of making such great progress, my atrial fibrillation has decided to act up and I've been having irregular heat beats again over the last couple of weeks. It is worrying because the risk of stroke is greatly increased when this is going on. It's quite tiring and stressful/scary too. Spent the last three days in/out of my cardiologist office, got blood work done twice, and started a new med.

Decided to join the SparkPeople stress challenge and make that a focus over the next month.

I continue to meet with the work weight loss group weekly. Getting support and being accountable. I've started doing more of the cooking again (my hubby had been doing it for a while) as I have more control and am more aware of what I am cooking/eating when I am doing it. I've been losing over 2 pounds a week steadily, have a long way to go.

I am making progress!

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Our weight loss convey met tonight. I had a big "I DID IT!" this week - lasted 30 minutes of aerobic exercise without a break! Just did another 30 minutes tonight. I also lost 2.8 pounds this week. Not sure how the rest of the group did, they didn't add up how much we lost so we'll find out that good news next week. This week we are adding tracking of saturated fats to our food logs. Last week we added sodium. Did you know that the new food guidelines reduce the recommended sodium from 2300 to 1500 for people over 50? So much to think about and pay attention to when you are trying to make new and better lifestyle habits.

A Line in the Sand

Friday, February 11, 2011

I've drawn a line in the sand. That's it. My health is worth it. This is a visual image I want to recall every time I'm faced with a temptation that doesn't fit my goals. On one side of the line is me and my health. On the other side are all the things that don't work for me anymore and don't fit with my goal of becoming a more healthy person.

Week 3 Work Convoy

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Our convoy lost 56 pounds this week. The focus this week was on the new dietary guidelines that were issued the end of January. The guidelines reduce the amount of sodium from 2300 to 1500 for those over 51. That's me. So...I made one of my goals for the week to have 2300 on average for the entire week, then I'll work on reducing it from there. One of our homework assignments is to get outside to do something on Saturday and report back on what we did. We have a new disk golf course at a park about a mile away. I think we should go over and play a few holes. That would be an outdoor active thing to do. Hopefully I won't be throwing any in the water because I am NOT going in after them! It was 20 degrees this morning. Brrrr.
