Weather

Saturday, October 04, 2008

It's only the first part of October here in southeast WI and we had a heavy frost last night. Only a few days ago it was in the high 80's and I mentioned to our mailman that I was tired of hot weather and was looking forward to cool. Guess I got it!! I like wearing sweaters and jackets ... but I'm not ready for a winter coat yet!
Now it's time to clean out the gardens and wait for Indian Summer.

This is a beautiful time of the year in Indiana. It was in the high 40s Sunday morning and got up to the high seventies and sunny. We have to enjoy each nice day we have this time of the year.
Have a successful and healthy October.

More about my grandkids

Friday, September 05, 2008

Feel I must write something more about my grandson who was 4 in May.
I picked him up yesterday, as we spend Thursdays together. He went to get his bike to show me what he'd done to it (a 2 wheeler that he's been riding without training wheels for 2 months now)
He had installed a kick stand on it ... all by himself!! On Wednesday he went into the garage and got a handful of wrenches, took the kick stand off an old bike of his older brother's and put it on his bike. His mom said she only had to tighten the bolts a little, otherwise the job was done by him. I asked him how in the world he could do this all by himself and he said, "I watch my dad work all the time." And he does.

Have a good, healthy week!

My oldest granddaughter ( yes, the one that just returned from Europe) came over last night all excited to tell me about her senior year now that school has started again. She's finishing high school at a local college. The program is called PSEO (Post Secondary Education Option) and so far she's happy to be there. She joined a paintball club (good grief!!) and is taking a Greek class. All guys wearing suits in that class and only one other girl. She's amazing. I asked her why Greek? and she said she plans to go to Greece someday.
Granddaughters #4 & #5 (sisters) are both in junior high this year, volley ball has stated and they're on the same team. WooHoo! Another game to cheer at!
Oldest grandson's football games (7th grade, different school in a different town) have started so unless these games are on the same night, we'll be there, too. He's good in this sport but is really good in basketball so I'm anxiously waiting for that season!!
Enough bragging for today ... I've got 3 grand kids left to brag about on another day. Thanks for putting up with it and especially for your nice comments.

I love it! It sounds like they are all busy. As they get older, it's harder and harder to spend time with them so we have to cherish each moment.

I have a 4 year old grandson who loves to give gifts. We were at a birthday party for his great aunt, he was assisting her with her gift opening. When she unwrapped a gift to find a small, shiny red box with a gift inside, my grandson asked if he could have the box. Of course we thought it was because it was a pretty, shiny box. A bit later he returned the box to his great aunt telling her it was her present from him. Inside she found 2 stones and a nickel. She mailed him a thank you note telling him that she put the stones in her flower garden and was keeping the nickel as her "good luck" charm. He'll be elated when he gets mail from the mailman!!
This is August. My birthday is in January. Monday he came over with a big box ... my birthday present he says ... "because your birthday is coming up." Inside the big box was a smaller box and inside it was an old coin purse and inside the coin purse were 2 dollars, a dime and a penny. I asked him where he got the money (especially the dollars) and he said it was money his mom gave him for doing his work. I asked him if he didn't want to spend the dollars on something special that he wanted to buy and he replied, "I can earn more dollars, these are for you so you can buy something special for your birthday present." Aren't grand kids just the greatest!? emoticon

My oldest granddaughter just recently returned home from a 17 day tour of 7 European countries. She was one of 216 kids from high school bands who are called the Minnesota Ambassadors of Music who were selected by their band instuctors to make this trip. She fell in love with Venice and absolutely loved Switzerland. She brought me back a music box from Switzerland as a souvenir of her fabulous trip.

I have 6 other grand kids to brag about, but enough for today.

How wonderful! The best part is his loving, giving, unselfish spirit. Yes, grandchildren are absolutely wonderful. I read somewhere that grandchildren are your reward for not killing you children. emoticon They are one of the very important reasons we need to take care of ourselves. We want to be able to enjoy them for years to come.
Have a blessed day,
Reva
