When the Workout Plan You Planned, Doesn't Work Out!

Sunday, September 28, 2014

okay, so in the last blog I mentioned my preparation to doing the 21-day TotalFit Challenge with MrShutUpAndTrain. Well...that didn't work out, except for the prep day which allowed me to review my goals, which IS a great thing to do! emoticon

So what's going on for me now is that I'm trying to figure out if I want to join the YMCA or if I want to do the exercising on my own. With either one I need to be disciplined and discipline has NOT been my strong suit thus far. And well, that's one of my issues with paying membership, what if I don't go as much as I would like or need to see results. And then there is the fact that I have FREE ways of working out like my DVDs at home, cable with OnDemand Workouts, Walking & hiking on my own, the Cancer Center with qigong & ti chi & yoga emoticon but then again, the Y has Nia, Pilates...

Well, what are your thoughts SparkFriends? How do you all work out? Come on, don't be shy, spill the tea on how you stay fit please!! emoticon

It sounds like accountability is an important part of what you need, much like most of us.

Perhaps you can get that by doing a challenge here on SP.

A daily check in with a Spark friend might be the way, and it's cheaper than any gym membership.

We belong to the Y because I get a great discount through work, we go with friends, and I like the elliptical but won't buy one for home. I always have the greatest intent to work out here on my non-gym days (weekends) but I NEVER actually do it! I have resistance bands, weights, yoga stuff and a shelf full of DVDs--all of which are collecting dust.
Without the Y I doubt I'd ever get much useful exercise, and those 200-250 calories I earn each morning are huge at the end of the day ;-)

I have a gym membership because I need the variety of options...I get bored at home...but you should do what works best for your budget, schedule and goals...either way emoticon

I use a combination of workouts on YouTube, and also go to the YMCA mostly because my daughter does gymnastics and it is convenient for me to work out well she is there. I used to be a member of curves gym for women. I used to go three times a week it was circuit training and I went after work so that I would not make excuses. I have to adjust the fitness routines I do based on the season of life the season for the weather my own needs and imitations because of schedule or injury etc. I think none of us have it all down when it comes to discipline and willpower but we have to find what works so whether it is small but it's a fitness throughout the day, working out first thing in the morning, or working out in the afternoon, we have to do what works. Some people are more motivated by working adding a group some people are more motivated working out with a trainer some people are more motivated working out alone. I find the convenience of working out at home alone with the trainer telling me exactly what to do has been working for sometime. When you set your goals be specific if you decide to join the YMCA decide that you will work out a certain number of days per week or certain days of the week and certain times or certain classes that work best for your schedule. If you decide to work out at home make sure you have a routine that you will follow. I join online challenges to keep me motivated I do Jessica Smith TV challenges she posts on YouTube and on her website JessicaSmithTV.com. I also follow peak313.com's challenges and blogs.
Find what works and you may have to adjust and modify. There is no "right" way. There is just what works for you.

You can do it!

Preparation Day for the Mr.ShutUpAndTrain 21 Day TotalFit Challenge

Sunday, September 21, 2014

Day 1: PREPARE FOR SUCCESS, Sunday Sept. 21, 2014

So today I start Mr.ShutUpAndTrain's 21 Day Total Fit Challenge.
So on Day 1, I am to Prepare My Mind, Prepare To Eat Clean, & Prepare For Workout Success!

I will share later, I'm Preparing My Mind!

Review Monica's successful tips on the challenge website to help in my Preparing To Eat Clean.

I've got to get the clothes, shoes, time, place, ect. for my workout! Preparing For Workout Success!

So What exactly will I be doing? Well, for the next 21 days here are the rules:
1. No Alcohol Liquor, Beer, Adult beverages.. Whatever you want to call it, You must abstain
2. No Fried Foods
Yes, that includes Chick-Fil-A waffle fries and BK onion rings.
3. No Fast Food
NONE!
4. Drink 1/2 your Body Weight in Ounces of Water (I'm starting at 14 glasses, that's 114 oz.)
A 200 lb man would drink 100 oz. of water daily
5. Keep a Daily Food Journal of Everything You Eat
Listed below is an app that makes this very easy
6. Commit to Eating Clean and Plan Your Meals
During the challenge we will provide helpful info & healthy food options
7. Share the Challenge and Your Photos
to SPARKPEOPLE, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and G+ Sharing is caring, do your part!
8. And of course there is are his daily (Sunday is rest recoup day) workouts that I will do!

On Monday is our Baseline Day, so I'm looking forward to that! As for the rest of the day, I'll be praying, meditating, and getting myself together!

Fitness Challenge, HELP!!!

Sunday, September 14, 2014

emoticon This Sunday, instead of being at church I'm Sipping on Tea Since I'm under the weather emoticon
Yet I am laying here thinking about what my next FITNESS CHALLENGE should be.
emoticonWork on becoming a Fitness Instructor like Pilates, Active Adults, Nia, or an ethnic one like Masala Bhangra, Belly Dance, etc.? That way I can cheer others on!
emoticon emoticon Maybe I should take the year to train for a fitness competition for body building or bikini comp.? This challenge might actually take more than a year to fit into! emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon OR, Sign up for a marathon, like a really big popular one!?
emoticon emoticon emoticon Or how about I sign up to compete in a dance off of some kind? I do like those "Shall We Dance" films!
emoticon emoticon Perhaps I will find an environmental goal, like to climb or walk a historical monument?
emoticon emoticon Maybe train to get a degree of difficulty in a particular sport?

So many directions to go! I think I could use a little help!
Any Suggestions???

    emoticon My Beautiful Sister!

So many things are rolling through your head! That's GREAT!!! I suggest SparkGuy's 10 minute or more Fitness Challenge. That sounds doable and FUN because you can incorporate any of those items into it and go for a STREAK!

Whatever you choose to do make it FUN and NOT something you will have to DRAG yourself by the hair to do it! lol emoticon

Hope you are feeling better in Jesus' Name. He wants us WHOLE in EVERY way!
Love & Blessings!

This Lifestyle Change is Taking a Lifetime!

This Lifestyle Change is Taking a Lifetime!

In need of some Monday motivation, my scale numbers are rising AGAIN! I need to hone in on my nutrition even more or something because I've been increasing my body movement, yet the scale is increasing. What do I have to do, go RAW?! Get hypnotherapy?! Eat like my kale loving bunny?! Geez.

[Coffey, my lop bunny eating organic kale & cilantro.]

I know that I've had life treating illnesses (which I still have prescribed meds for) so to be alive is a blessing that I should be thankful for.

It's definitely seems to be taking a lifetime just trying to get it right! But I shall be patient with myself. And hopefully I won't blow up at folks like this meme shows, oh wait, I probably have done this before LOL I must make sure to not lash out! emoticon So good to have a place like SP where you can talk about living healthier & not have to worry so about your friends not getting it. Thanks Spark Friends!

That is so true that this site and all the great people on it get it! It is the best to be able to come here and write a blog and know that so many others can relate. But it is also true that it can never be a diet, it must be a lifestyle change and we are in this for life!
Hang in there! It can be frustrating and it is never easy but it is always worth it!

Keep having faith and remember that the scale is not the only way to measure your successes! Can you move easier? Are you more flexible? Are your clothes getting big on you or fitting you more comfortably? Try asking yourself those questions before you get so disappointed! Hope that helps you feel some better!

Making these 'lifestyle' changes is a long and tedious process that will guaranteed have its up and downs. All we can do is literally plonk forward the best we can and hope that while we are slowly moving forward, the weight is slowly coming off and our health is slowly getting better.
