Baby, it's cold outside

Saturday, November 20, 2010

The coldest day since spring-brrr! After breakfast and farm chores, DH started making Dutch apple bread and I started the wood furnace. It is toasty warm in the house now. The overday high was 23 with a wind chill of 12 degrees. The wind was damp and raw. We finished some out door duties this afternoon and officially declared the garden "put to bed". The last of the
leeks were dug yesterday and I am happy to have the season behind us. I will be ready to start anew in spring but for now, it is a good feeling to enjoy all the good veggies we harvested.
We even baked 2 apple and one chocolate pie late this afternoon. It sure smells good
in the kitchen.
Bingo party tonight at the Legion that started with a soup supper. I enjoyed chicken noodle soup with crackers, egg salad sandwich and even indulged in a piece of chocolate pie.
I did meet my nutrition goals but needed the pie to do it. It sure tastes good when someone
else cooks LOL!
Laundry done but need to make the bed. Tomorrow is Sunday and a day of rest. I think I can
handle that.
Have a Super Sunday and keep on SParking! Hugs and thanks for stopping by! emoticon

It's great when you need the dessert to meet your nutritional goals for the day. I had a bowl of ice cream tonight so that I'd have enough carbs and calories. No one told me that there would be days like that.

And this is one reason I live in Georgia! I don't like the cold at all. I had enough of it when I lived in Germany and in Virginia, but it never was that cold. Stay warm!

I hate to have to say it, but this morning as I started my walk, the wind chill was -3 F!!!!! My pedometer actually stopped registering at the .8 mile mark!!! I'm not sure if it was the temperature or not.
Good luck as you continue and TRY to stay warm.

Trying to eat

Friday, November 19, 2010

We went out for dinner tonight and I did try to eat tilapia. It took all of 30 minutes to eat 1/2 of the fillet and 20 french fries. Good thing I had tartar sauce and ketchup to help it slide down
LOL!. I brought the other half home to eat tomorrow. Back to soft food it is but I'll get there soon!

Try, Try Again, Try Harder!
Guess I'll try again tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! HUGS!

Sometimes you have to let your mouth rest in between meals - everyone is different.

The least grain that gets under the plates is sheer torture.

It will become easier with time.

You definitely have the right attitude..........keep trying different foods, eventually (with the healing process) you will be eating more and more...........last year (do to DH's work done like you)
we had rotisserie chicken in gravy with mashed potatoes and creamed broccolli. He did great, but was still a little sore from eating ............take each day as it comes........I know you always do, and don't get discouraged it will all fall in place.................. emoticon

Getting better

Thursday, November 18, 2010

DH is home and doing fine. He gets tired a little faster but that will improve with time.
It is getting easier to eat enough each day. Making sure I stay on track and adding in a
bit more exercise each day.
I had cooked up some beef bones earlier and made a hearty vegetable beef soup for
supper. Boys each ate 3 bowls! I pureed mine and added just a touch of vinegar. It was
delicious.
Take care and here's your motivation for tomorrow:
TRY, TRY AGAIN, TRY HARDER!
HUGS and thanks for stopping by!

Back at it again!

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I am slowly catching up on yesterday's work as I was out of the office all afternoon. When
it rains, it pours. I did get a fairly good night's sleep last night and DH was dismissed early
this afternoon. The house will get back to normal.
It is cold and cloudy today with a few sprinkles. I sure could go home and cuddle up
under a blanket but I will stick it out until 5. I have a nice beef roast in the oven and will
roast some veggies as well. That should warm up the house nicely.
Get ahead and stay ahead by staying focused and positive. Give yourself every opportunity
to reach your goals. The sky is the limit! Hugs and thanks for stopping by!

Late evening blog

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

I had intended to blog earlier, started and then, cancelled it. Life happens.
DH came back after lunch and announced that he had been having mild chest pains and
needed to go to the ER. So I drove him to the nearest hospital, 16 miles away, where
they proceeded to treat him. After 2 1/2 hours, his cardiologist confirmed by phone that
he needed further evaluation so he was transported by ambulance.
After a cardiogram was done, two more stents were placed in the vicinity of the three
already in place. It was a "minor" procedure as there was minimal narrowing of the
artery previously involved. Basically a precautionary measure. He will be dismissed
tomorrow afternoon. I made arrangements with SIL to pick him up as I was given
strict directives by the PA to avoid the hour drive there and back. He felt I needed to
take care of myself and that would be too much stress. He told me I was awfully pale
and it was too soon after my extractions to put that much pressure on myself. Of
course, I agreed. I was basically wiped out at this point anyway.
There were a few signs that indicated he might be having problems but those only came
to light when talking to the doctor in the ER. Had he told me sooner, this may have been
avoided but who knows for sure.
I am wrapping up earlier tonight. I have made more than my share of phone calls and
am waiting for two people to call me back. By then, the laundry will be dry and I can
fold it in the morning.
I did slightly better with nutrition today. I made all my goals and that was a good thing. I
need to concentrate of getting myself back to 100%. Almost there but still a little shy.
Remember that in order to take care of others, you also need to take care of yourself.
This is the voice of experience cautioning you that it is too easy to ignore your own
health. Life may be too busy to take time for yourself, but making time for you now
is easier than having to spend time recovering with a more major problem later.
Thanks for reading and commenting! HUGS and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Golly I miss reading your blog for a few days and WOW, I miss something major. I am sorry to hear about hubby but pray all goes well and he is soon home. You be sure to take time to take care of yourself too. I know how hard it is when we have so many depending on us but we just have to do it!
My friend scared us Tues with her chest pains and she just got out Thur morning. She needs more testing done but for now they sent her home. She is one who NEVER takes time for herself and I told her this was her wake up call so she better answer it this time as she has had a couple before and hung up on them!

Oh this is so scary. I'm glad your husband is OK. It's a good thing you took him to the ER right then. Yes, we need to remember to take care of ourselves, too. When I take care of myself, I am in a much better frame of mind emotionally and of course much better able physically to deal with all the stressful events that happen in life. And this sure is one of them that you experienced on Tuesday. I hope your husband continues to heal up and feel better. And the same goes with you and your new teeth and sore gums- I hope you heal quickly and in time to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner without pain.
