Making adjustments

Sunday, November 07, 2010

Since both activity and nutrition have taken a hit in the last few days, I am getting creative! I am doing as much light housework as I can, all the little things one puts off when there are
bigger fish to fry LOL! I have transplanted my herbs from the flowerbed to pots inside. I
transplanted some African violets my MIL gave me last weekend. So, I can be active in
other ways.
The nutrition is coming along with plenty of soft foods and liquids.
I do miss my fresh veggies but love the taste of potato leek soup and squash, carrot
and apple soup. Just a different form of the good stuff. I tried to eat hamburger
last night and have decided to forego solid protein for yogurt, protein drinks
and tomorrow, cottage cheese. It is all doable!
Make adjustments and keep on SParking!

I don't follow you for a week or so and OMG it seems you have had some life altering (for the better we will assume as you sound so positive) changes. Sorry I wasn't there to lend my support like you have been for me. I get up and it seems like it is time to go to bed before I know it. I make lists (I am a Virgo who loves organization living with a Libra who isn't into that) and I rarely get it all done! I read your blogs and wonder how you do it. I think age may be a factor. I find every year I age I get a little less done in a day!!
Here is praying you make a speedy recovery and that the new choppers will be the best thing you have ever done.
My hubby finally got his lower plate about 3 yrs ago and some days he laments it, but for the most part, he is happy he did it as he had many issues also.

Avoid this-if you can!

The I-got-to-get-dentures diet! I would recommend SP over this many times over!
It has been an interesting 20 hours but things have seemed to smoothed out. Lots of
liquids and finally done with packing my mouth with gauze. That is murder to sleep like
that LOL! Took ibuprofen once yesterday and think I'll do well today. If I need it, I know
where it is. Just a slight swelling so for now, I'm home free! They said I would lose weight
for some time and I am down 2 pounds today. I expect this is very short term and will
change down the road.
I am drinking tea, water and V-8 Fusion Peach Mango juice. First time I tried it-pretty good stuff.
Try something new! You may be surprised how good it actually is. Be it a new food, new
activity or just a new attitude! Keep your options open!
Hugs and thanks for reading and commenting!

I feel for you...I have had 2 root canals (one in February of this year with horrible pain beforehand when a tooth decided to just die) and 2 bridges and major gum surgery with packing..... it is no fun....I remember getting so hungry for some real food when I had stitches in my mouth that I put some vegetable soup in the blender....but that turned out to be too chunky. It sounds like you have figured out some nonsolid foods that are working out and sound tasty to boot. Take it easy....I hope you are....

and hope you feel better soon!!! emoticon

Whoa! I just read all your posts for the past few days and will be praying for you. What a major decision you had to make, and lots of changes. You are very brave to do this. I hope you will feel comfortable in dentures. My parents have bad teeth and dentures, so of course genetically my siblings and I have bad teeth, too. I have had 5 root canals, and I believe one of my sisters has had 8 or 9 root canals!!! So I completely understand your choice. I'm not so sure I would want to try the denture diet, though, LOL. I love your positive attitude. You really do know how to make lemonade out of lemons....and since you are on essentially a liquid diet now you can drink that lemonade too! emoticon

Oh, I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I always took such good care of my teeth but they were no match for a forklift that hit me. I ended up with dentures too and still hate them. What I would not give to be able to bite into a crisp apple or eat corn on the cob. But, they look....puuuurty. LOL

Keep taking the pain meds if you have them on time. Don't go without. It takes so long to bring that pain back under control. I am so glad you are in the homestretch. That first couple of days after extraction is so painful.

I know you have been warned about "dry socket" - you must alert them if you have that type pain.

My B-I-L went through this too - they used the Black & Decker Chopper to chop up all his foods. I remember him telling us that steak was good but some vegetable wasn't.

My Mother used to eat Juniors Baby foods and she said they were really good too! Not the baby ones, the next up - I believe they are called juniors?

Like everything else - You can do it!

Where did my playmates go?

Friday, November 05, 2010

My poor tongue is wandering around and trying to figure out what happened LOL! I am still basically pain-free and pretty much ready to drink a little tea. It is now 2:30 and I have been home for almost 4 hours. I will wait until later to eat but drinking sure feels good. I will switch back between warm water and tea to get rehydrated. I did sleep for 1 1/2 hours until some
lady called looking for an auctioneer. Definitely a wrong number.
Keep smiling and SParking and thanks for checking up on me! HUGS!

Home again!

Friday, November 05, 2010

I left for the dentist office early, arrived early and he started as soon as I could get into the chair. He used a different numbing agent which, surprisingly, worked very well. We discussed the number of teeth to extract today. He would continue until I stopped him.
After 45 minutes, he and I agreed that 13 was enough for one day.
The other 7 will be extracted next Thursday. So far, I am still pain free but the day is
long from over. The usual list of things to avoid-straws, hard food, rinsing vigorously
and the one I find most amusing-alcohol. I think I can get around that one. I found I could
drive the 30 miles home with ease, probably because my mouth is still anesthetized.
Smile for me and with me! Find something awesome and wonderful today to keep your
mood up and positive. High Five, everyone! Keep on SParking! Hugs and thanks for
stopping by and reading!

A brief reprieve?

Thursday, November 04, 2010

I received a call from the dentist office this morning before 9 am. My appointment needed to be changed as the dentist was too ill to come in to work. This is the FIRST time he has ever
called in sick (he's the boss) so the secretary felt pretty bad about rescheduling. Like I really
want to be exposed to the stomach flu or whatever else he has LOL!
I am to be there tomorrow at 9:15 so I gained 1/2 a day to get a few more household tasks
done. I have already cooked some vegetable broth and precooked veggies so I can blend
them when I get hungry. I have also adjusted to a soft food regimen for the last 4 days.
This is doable!

Adjust, adapt, make a change and be flexible! Life happens but keep a positive outlook
and focus on where you want to be! HUGS and thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Will you be able to exercise during all the procedures before you get your dentures? I would imagine you might lose some weight too. That's a plus, if you want/need to since you're at your goal weight.

Glad to hear the soft food will be doable for you.........some people just go: "what will I be able to eat.......I hate mushy food".............I really liked scrambled eggs with a little melted cheese on them............and I have to say I did indulge in a chocolate malt (with a spoon)........just because I could.........Keep smiling......... emoticon
