Mildly insane-again?

Thursday, November 19, 2009

After a full day of work yesterday, I came home and put a plan into action. I did 4 loads of laundry, made supper and then I decided (the mildly insane me) to mix up a batch of sweet dough to make cinnamon rolls. I started at 6:40 and by 9:15 I had 56 luscious rolls out of the oven. I had told Rachel what I was doing and called Timothy to come "pick some up". When he walked in the door, I handed him a complete sheet cake pan with 20 freshly baked rolls. I wrapped them up in a towel since the pan was still warm and sent him on his way. I then
divided the other pan. Half were packaged for David to take along on his bus trip. There were 16 for him to share with his teacher and the girls who were going along. 2 went to the lady at the cafe, along with a copy of the recipe. 3 were delivered to the man who runs the feed store in our building. There are now just 7 left. I admit, I did eat one small one last night. It was delicious!
This morning was a rush to get my work caught up since I went to the eye doctor this afternoon. I just laughed when he said I needed glasses. He was afraid I would be upset but I told him it was better than having two broken legs and being in a wheelchair. I can live with
glasses! I guess he wasn't expecting me to be so upbeat!
We had the grandchildren tonight for three hours. Farm chores, supper then play time and watching a movie. They should sleep good tonight.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Live, laugh and love! Life is too short to be unhappy!
Smile and have an outstanding evening!

We had quite a day! All the seniors are checking into their drug plans and trying to decide if they should switch companies, lower premiums, etc. With 250 customers to keep track of, it gets to be tough to remember who we have talked with. Thisis such a process and we have until the end of the year to get them updated.
I babysat with the grandchildren tonight for about 3 hours. We had such fun and they expecially loved going to the farm with Papa! The highlight of their day!
I have had to suspend walking for more than 30 minutes a day. I muffed up an ankle a week ago climbing around in the ditches on an ambulance run. Anything longer than that and I can tell it is not happy. It usually takes a few days to get back to normal so by the weekend, it will be fine.
The week is flying by. We have had sunny but cool days. The farmers are rejoicing-no rain in sight. Have a wonderful evening!

Ouch on the ankle! I have heard it said that a sprain can hurt more then a clean break. I don't want to test that theory. I hope you mend fast and feel better faster.

The cinnamon rolls were just delicious. The batch made 32 and there are just 5 left. I had sent 7 over to Rachel's yesterday and Dad delivered 7 more this morning before church. Dad, of course, ate quite a few and David and his friend, Dom, ate a few more. By tomorrow, they will be gone but I had one yesterday and one this morning so I haven't been deprived in the least. It is fun to see everyone enjoy good food!
After church, I came home to make a salad for William's birthday party. Sara and family could not come as Sara has the stomach flu that the kids had on Friday. Nothing like sharing LOL! But we had a delicious lunch of taverns, nacho chips, Snicker apple salad, and coleslaw with cake and ice cream later. It was such a fun time and we all were able to talk to Johann on the computer. He is looking pretty good and seemed a little tired but it was evening for him in Kuwait.
Great Grandma came to the party and so did my brother, SIL, their daughter and SIL. We had a roaring good time watching William open his presents. We were all trying to take pics or
video the activity. But you always miss some of the action when you are behind the camera.
Tonight will be quiet. Gary peeled apples for an apple crisp and it is almost done baking.
Sadly, the weekend is almost over and it is back to work tomorrow.
Have a wonderful evening and I hope everyone had a great weekend! I know I did!

Hey Sparkie friend of mine..you are a little cooking genius...sounds so yummy...I know exactly what taverns are..delish! I used to moonlight in a little place called "The Tavern" in my younger days..the tips there were fantastic..as was the food! Another big question...how the heck do you stay so slender eating cinnamon rolls?? Must be everything in moderation..right? I wonder if they have such a thing as RAW cinnamon rolls...must check that out!!!

I am with you, I wish the weekends were longer.

Wondering what taverns are, as far as eating goes. Is that your son in Kuwait? Appreciate his service. Thank you! BTW, did you ship some of these cinnamon rolls my way? (smiling) Okay, okay, I don't eat them anymore and working on these last 20 lbs. Have a good evening.

Ahh, the weekend!

Saturday, November 14, 2009

It is a gorgeous day and the farmers are all busy in the fields! I can see and hear the combines and the corn fields are shrinking! Theyall would like to be done harvesting before Thanksgiving.
Yesterday, for a Friday, was unusually busy but I managed to stay ahead and only left the
office 10 minutes late. I stopped to buy groceries, came home and worked in the basement
and had a delicious supper. After that, I deboned the two chickens I had simmered and froze two ice cream pails of broth and meat. It will make some delicious soup on some cold day.
Today, William arrived at 8:15. He will be here most of the day. We went to have coffee and
then came home to do 4 loads of laundry. Gary is off to Sioux Falls for the afternoon and William and I are just poking around the house. He is watching cartoons and helping Grandma sweep the floors. I fixed lunch for the two of us and then it was nap time for the
little fellow.
I had mixed up a batch of sweet roll dough and am baking cinnamon rolls for our Sunday
breakfast. One pan is finished and the other will be done baking in about 3 minutes. It
smells so good!
Tonight I am planning supper just in case Rachel and the kids want to come over for
roast and potatoes. She is just on her way back from her basketball tournament and
should be here in 15 minutes.
Well, the buzzer went off on the stove and it is time to take the last rolls out of the oven.
Thanks for reading and commenting. Have a super fantastic weekend!

Back to the birds!

Thursday, November 12, 2009

The chickens have all found homes! 4 went to a sweet lady who came to help us butcher. She took them home to can for her husband. 5 belonged to the neighbor next door so I had no claim to them. She also took 5 more which we were happily donating to her church for their soup kitchen in 3 weeks. 2 are being donated to the American Legion for the soup and sandwich meal being served next Saturday, the 21st. I was also asked to donate 2 pies for that night's fundraiser. That leaves me with two that are now simmering on my stove in the basement. The appliance man came to replace the cord and I moved it into the space I had
allocated for it. I can smell the chickens up here by the computer. It is making me hungry and I already had supper LOL!
We went out for supper tonight with Rachel, her in-laws, the grandkids, and our two youngest sons. I skipped the malt and ate a nice taco salad. Even with the salad dressing, I stayed in range. I had plenty of outdoor time today and walked for over 1/2 hour. The breeze was cool and it was cloudy but still in the 50's. The farmers are hauling corn in now as the soybean harvest seems to be complete. One or two more weeks of nice weather and the fields should be done.
Have a wonderful evening and a most marvelous Friday!
