Another Hot Day

Saturday, July 14, 2012

The temperature climbed to 99 degrees today. My 5 loads of
laundry dried quickly and it is all inside. The sheets will smell
nice and fresh tonight. I swept the downstairs in between the
wash cycles and spent most of the morning getting the house
back in order.
This afternoon I made a double batch of beef stew for supper
and the bread is rising in the pans. I could have picked a cooler
day to bake but that would be 10 days from now LOL!
Chores and milking is done. One of the girls who will be
showing DS's goats at the fair tried her hand at milking today.
She did pretty good for the first time.
DH made buttermilk biscuits to go with the stew so I better
get those in the oven now. Thank goodness I bought a stove
with 2 ovens otherwise it would be a long wait until the
first loaves of bread come out. I really love doing about 4
things at one time. It keeps the adrenaline flowing.
Have a great evening and thanks for stopping by. One
mildly insane SParker signing off. HUGS!

So glad someone can successfully multi-task. Seems like I have lots of things going at once but nothing ever gets finished. I work on one thing, but get distracted and start something else and then get distracted again. By noon, I am exhausted but "only" have a lot of "starts" and no finishes.

How do you stay focused with so much going on at once?

PS: I smelled that bread and buttermilk biscuits all the way in Illinois. YUM!!! emoticon

Friday the 13th

Saturday, July 14, 2012

was a pretty good day! I accomplished a lot today but
still have a few things left for Monday. Lots of reports
done today with service work thrown in. I spent an hour
in the garden, had a leisurely supper and was enjoying
the GC outside tonight. We started the firepit for them
while their daddy power washed the deck. Then the
pager went off and we had a grass fire in the country.
Out and back in less than an hour. Good thing it was
small and easily contained. Just too dry so we are all
worrying about next week when the temps climb into
the 100's and high heat advisories already posted.
Have a great night and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

It is so scary right now with this lack of rain, isn't it? We have a friend who is building a new home and they just finished digging for the basement. Down almost 10 feet and they did not hit any moist soil. That is unreal to me. Last year my pasture was flooded almost 20 feet past the fence line and my horses swam across it. Now, it is totally dried up except for a very small slew pond in the middle. My heart goes out to the farming community. Either an extreme flood or drought...no middle ground. Glad the fire was easily contained.

Enjoy you weekend...every minute of it. Hugs

My favorite farmer

Thursday, July 12, 2012

I admit I have one favorite farmer that I love to work with
during crop reporting time. He is about 15 years younger
than me and nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. He comes
in with all his paperwork in hand but gets caught up in the
excitement of trying to get everything perfect, even to the
task of signing his name. We spent almost 45 minutes getting
it all down and signed, making copies of his maps and summary
and then he is out the door. Well, today he came back just
15 minutes later, announcing that he had forgotten some new
land. Oh, my! But by then, DH was finished with his client
and could walk and talk him through the last addition. We
just chuckle when he leaves. It takes a lot to keep him calm.
So, again, I was late leaving work and needed to get home so
I could make sure DS2 had supper before leaving for his game.
One minute he is eating and the next, he finds out the team
is leaving 15 minutes earlier than planned. So I packed the
rest of his supper in a disposable container with a plastic
fork and sent him on his way.
DH had driven out of town to get 2 more reports done so I
had all the farm chores to do and it was milking night. It
took me an hour but I was finished and back to the house
long before he got home. At that point we decided to eat
uptown, saving the roast beef for tomorrow's lunch.
Now I am home, tidying up and doing more laundry. I checked
out the weather and there is a slight chance of rain. It
sure would be nice if it did.
So I will scoot out of here and wrap things up for the day.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a delightful Friday. HUGS!

Counting the days

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Until the crop insurance reporting days are over and we can
maybe get on to other things. The season was extended 15
days this year, which is a plus. But there are always those
who wait until the last possible day to come in. I do know
what procrastination is and they are bound and determined
to make sure I remember. It is the same ones every year.
This year, with the dry conditions and summer tasks that
are being put aside because of it, there would be time to
take care of these things. So, we wait and when they do
come in, it is always late in the afternoon and drags into
the evening. Maybe next year it will be different LOL!
I had a meeting at 5 that should have been done in 45
minutes. Well, one man had a personal discussion that
lasted 30 minutes. After hearing the same argument
repeated 5 times, it was time to adjourn. Poor guy is
clueless.
So, now I am 45 minutes late getting home to make
supper and still have all the chores to do. I called DH
and luckily, he will first get home at 8. DS2 calls that
he already has supper plans and DS is working at the
store until 8. So having a late supper worked out-this
time.
Now I am winding down with three loads of laundry but
the dishes are done and I am in my pj's and ready for bed.
Life is sweet-when it goes as planned. But life is sweeter
when it goes awry and it still works out. Despite the upset
schedule, I made all my goals and can smile that it all
fell into place. Another NSV!
Have a great Thursday and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Oh you are the sweetest most PATIENT dear friend I know! If I know one thing about people...it's that they procrastinate...ask our CPA...he just automatically files our tax extension each year no questions asked. Did I mention how I HATE bookwork...yep...I think I have...I'm an ART~T~TIST you know...we don't really know how to engage the left side of our brains that well..so we procrastinate! emoticonBut farmers...I don't really think they can use that excuse! emoticonI'd shorten your work hours to an hour before you REALLY close...works like a charm at the consignment gallery. emoticon

Pick and choose

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Each day you pick and choose what you want to do. You
plan a menu and pick what you want to eat. You choose
what time you get up in the morning. Sometimes that
choice is made for you, especially if you have a job and
a set work schedule. You pick the clothes you wear-well,
you get the idea.
Today I had to choose between staying at work or going
on a fire call. It was a tough choice but I chose to stay
at work. The guys were out for 3 hours fighting a grass
fire. They came back to town but went out later to check
for hotspots. It was my night to work at the baseball game
in the concession stand. We were paged to an emergency
at the field. Since I was there, I could direct my crew
and assist with treatment and loading. I chose to let them
take him to the hospital so I could finish my shift and watch
DS play. Well, sort of. You can only see so much when you
are inside the stand.
Life is full of choices and today I made the best choices
for me. I hope you did, too.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Wednesday.
HUGS!
