Hot and Humid

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

I started the day with a lightweight long sleeve turtleneck sweater
that was exchanged for a t-shirt at noon. I was making folks feel
hot just looking at me. But I was comfortable until I stepped
outside. It was starting to warm up. Okay, I got it. The day
passed quickly and soon the office could be closed and I could
spend some quality time in the garden. The air temp was 94
and the heat index was 99 but I needed to pick peas, zucchini,
broccoli and spinach. I found 18 kohlrabi that were just the
right size. After an hour, I headed home to finish supper and
tend to the flowerbeds that all needed watering. There will
be a short cooldown tomorrow and Friday before it heats up
again for the weekend.
The corn leaves are really curling and the farmers are getting
concerned. It really needs to rain soon and there are only
slight chances of thunderstorms for the next week. I may worry
about my garden but this is their livelihood and so much hangs
in the balance.
So we will all keep plugging along and trust that, in the end, it
will all turn out right. For now, at least, we are safe from the
fires that are impacting so many lives.
Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic Friday. HUGS!

I have so many zucchini's in my garden but they are sooo fat this year? I like them to me longer and thinner and not sure what is going on with them. I was waiting to pick them in the hopes they would stretch some!
Enjoy your veggies and sunshine!

This weather sounds just like the weather here in Central Ohio. We are already having some watering restrictions and are under a mild draught. I hope that you get some rain soon. emoticon

Sending rain thoughts your way... echo a few of them back here. Yesterday topped the century here, and the forecast is saying not much cooler today (98).

I will say one thing: heat's a lot easier to take when I weigh in the 120's than when I weighed in the 220's... one of those little side benefits of making lifestyle changes!

Have a great today!

Working through the program

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

We have a new program that, at times, is both frustrating and
tedious. I worked on one project today that seemed to take
forever but I think I conquered it. DH and MIL were gone to
DR appointments so I was alone and could say whatever I
wanted to and at the computer. But I will submit the information
tomorrow and see if I got the desired results.
Living a healthier lifestyle is much the same. Some of it is new
and some is old hat. You stick with what works, or do you?
The new program made me see that I could do things in a
different way and get the desired results.
Keep an open mind (note to self, that means you). Try a
new approach and see if you can make it work for you.
The key word here is to try. You may surprise yourself
and find you like the new way better. And the more you
practice, the more it will become a habit. And good habits
lead to success.
Have a wonderful Wednesday and give new ideas a try.
Thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Glad I stopped by. It's good to be open to the new; there is always something else out there and you'll never know about it until you change course or scenery or whatever you've been doing all your life. Here's to change, it might open the door to greater success.

I'm remembering a program I learned several years ago that was so frustrating in the beginning that I wanted to throw the computer out the window! I now teach that program to others and I start by sharing how annoyed I was in the early days. Having someone else right there with you for support makes the task a little less daunting and more achievable.

DGD and the last softball game

Monday, June 25, 2012

It was such fun to watch DGD play in her last game of the season.
She has some very fine skills for a 7 year old. I think she could
be a great player as she matures. She is athletic and seems to
have an eye for detail. This could be interesting to see what she
accomplishes in the future.
DH kept himself busy today and I learned a lot from a very
patient underwriter. She coached me through some of the
phases of the new program and most of it was good information.
The chocolate cake is 2/3 gone and I am sure it will be history
by this time tomorrow night.
We spent over an hour at the farm, doing chores and spending
time in the garden. I brought home potatoes, zucchini and 4
broccoli. DH had a pail of radishes. My fridge runneth over!
Even the cooler downstairs is getting full so it is time to take
some of the excess to the cafe for senior meals and such. They
are happy to have it and I am happy to share.
I watered the flowerbeds tonight as there is a heat advisory
for tomorrow afternoon. I waited until the beds were shaded
so the plants could handle the cold water. I have a few more
volunteers to transplant and will wait for cooler conditions.
Have a great Tuesday and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

There is something about watching games when kids we know (and care about) are playing. Glad you are there for your DGD!

Love hearing about your fresh garden produce, and glad you're giving the excess to a good cause. I am not a gardener, but when those I work with bring the fresh stuff in to share? Yeah, a bit of it makes its way to my 'fridge, too!

Have a great today!

Last day of the weekend

Sunday, June 24, 2012

The weekend is almost over but it was very productive and
I did catch up on some needed projects. We went to church
and then to the cafe for coffee with the family. DD will be
taking DGD to a softball game and then off with the high
school girls to a volleyball match. One more match and the
summer season is done. She has stressed with this because
there were times when the girls had too many commitments
and the team was short of members to play. She will pass
on this for next summer.
DS2 has a baseball game tonight here in town so we will
see if they can pull off a win with a pretty strong team.
I made a baked macaroni and cheese dish for lunch and the
remainder goes home with oldest son for his lunches this
week. Tonight I am baking a hamburger and rice casserole
so DS2 has something for his lunches this week. I took one
of the cabbages left from graduation and made coleslaw.
DH is baking a chocolate cake "for the boys", since they
all love it. Guess he qualifies as a boy because I know he
will be eating just as much of it as his sons. Who does he
think he is fooling LOL!
Just 10 days until the 4th of July. Where did the time go?
DS is out of school for a month already and chomping at the
bit to get to college. I think he has a few things to finish up
first.
Have a wonderful evening and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

I second UNSTOPPABLE's comment; I love reading your blogs.

Saturday, I had two blogs to read that came in around the same time. The first one was called "Terrible Day" and I decided to go back to that one later. The very next one was yours and it called "Splendid Day" and it made me smile before I even opened it. I just knew I would enjoy reading it (Of course, I read yours right away!!)

Splendid day

Saturday, June 23, 2012

We received 1/4 inch of rain this morning, shy of what was
predicted but welcome, all the same. Once the clouds cleared
out, it was time to do laundry and hang it outside to dry. Six
loads later, all the jeans, shirts and sheets were on the line.
We set a batch of bread and the first 3 loaves just came out
of the oven. It sure smells wonderful.
I swept and mopped the bathroom and kitchen and I am glad
to have sparkly floors again. I planted the 2 Easter lilies from
church next to the others. They may bloom in October if the
weather cooperates. The others bloomed early this year.
I noirmally look for them to bloom on the 4th of July.
My snow on the mountain are blooming now and
usually bloom for my birthday in late July. Guess everything
is off schedule but that's okay. I will just enjoy them now.
Supper is planned and we will have grilled tilapia with
baked potatoes and a veggie or two. Tonight there is a
40th anniversary party for a dear, sweet couple that live
in the country. I have known him since I was a young girl.
He has such a dry sense of humor and she is as gentle as
her mother. They have 5 children and their oldest son
attended the School for the Deaf at the same time as our
oldest son. I have to make sure he comes by to say hello.
They scarcely see each other anymore.
Have a wonderful evening and a blessed Sunday. Thanks for
stopping by. HUGS!
