Sunday coming to an end

Sunday, October 30, 2011

Our Sunday was a little quieter but we are baking bread this
afternoon. The last loaf has been cut and we need to replenish
our supply for the week. DD is feeling ill and we think it may be
the flu. DH is doing chores now and will pick them up. We will
have them here for supper and until bath time. She really needs
a break and we will be happy to have them here. We are having
bbq pork ribs, mashed potatoes and bbq sauce gravy and corn.
All things they love to eat.
May you have a wonderful evening and thanks for stopping by.
HUGS!

Sparking Good Saturday!

Saturday, October 29, 2011

I am working to get my weekend have-tos done early. We are
planning to go out for supper with the whole family tonight and
I want to have the housework all done. So far, I have swept the
entire downstairs, mopped kitchen and bathroom, washed 5 loads
of laundry. The rugs by the front door really needed it. All is out
of the line as it is a very breezy day and should dry nicely.
I did take time for coffee this morning. Then DH and I checked
out an auction sale about 4 blocks away. I saw lots of things but
I can do with what I have. It was just a little too cold to stand
outside anyway. I did walk through the house and marveled
that all the stuff outside would have fit inside. Houses are like
that. Time to declutter myself. I could appreciate it but the
time to get it done has still to present itself.
A big batch of chili is cooking on the stove. It will be ready when
DH gets back from digging the carrots. I guess he wants that
project done. I am sure my pickup box will be full when he comes
home. I did pick up some pegboard so I can set up more shelves
in the basement. An ongoing process.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend! Do what you can to
stay active and on track. Remember-Halloween candy is for the kids.
HUGS!

Working on cleaning too, but not achieving nearly as much as you! J went to get some straw bales for the winter. I vacuumed. Got the first floor done - took about 1.5 hours (moving chairs, cleaned one pc, cleaned under stove, fridge, freezer). Got tv area dusted, and now taking a hot tea break. Still have to finish dusting then clean the 1st floor bathrooms.

A pickup full of carrots??? I'd love to see how you store everything. I've been learning as I go. For a few years, we tried storing the carrots in sand - didn't work. They rotted. So now, I blanch, pack and freeze. I've read about how basements need to be setup for storing.. some need moisture, some don't.. how frustrating.

Have a good weekend!Don't get blown away

I could have saved myself

Friday, October 28, 2011

some trouble yesterday. By the time we arrived at the gym for
the fundraiser (last ones), we found only two salads, coleslaw
and ramen noodle cabbage salad. I think we missed all the good
stuff. There were sandwiches and enough desserts so we were
okay there. But it was a bit of a disappointment.
After we were done eating, we had the GC while Dad went to
parent-teachers conferences. After the little ones left and I
went to track my nutrition, I barely made my goal. I did snack
on some grapes while watching the World Series. I guess the
day was saved. I did go to bed before the game was over. It
was late and I had a strong desire to get some sleep. As it
turned out, there will be another game tonight.
DD and SIL have gone to dinner and a movie so we have the GC
with us until it is time to put them to bed. I will stay with them
at the house until Mom and Dad get home. They have promised
it will be early.
I have a lot planned for tomorrow, subject to change as DH's
whim. But I can be flexible.
Do you allow for flexibility in your life? Make things work for you.
There is less stress if you allow for the corners and turns that
come your way.
Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic Friday evening. HUGS!

Going lean today

Thursday, October 27, 2011

We have a fundraiser for the FCCLA tonight and the menu will
include pork loin sandwiches, a huge array of salads and desserts
of which to choose. So I am planning ahead and going lean from
now until 6 pm. The extra cake I baked for PTA will be taken this
afternoon. DS ran out of time to do any baking so I will take it for
her. DH washed up 7 dozen fresh eggs and that will be our
contribution.
I was up early this morning to frost the cake for the supper,
over to DS's house early as SIL needed extra time to go to
school and attend to Guard paperwork. Being an officer makes
for extra duties and I will support him every chance I get.
Off and running! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.
HUGS!

Tis the season for...

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

fundraisers, soup kitchens, spaghetti suppers and many events
that revolve around food. I am keeping track of these annual events
as they are planned to occur for the next month. There are one
or two every week through November. I also know the month of
December will offer more of the same. Interesting problem with
the many choices of food offered. Yes, there will be pies, sticky
cinnamon rolls, luscious cakes and frosted cookies. And those
are just the desserts. The list goes on with hearty meals and
well-meaning cooks and bakers who share their delicacies.
But, I digress. Tis the season to play it cool, make good and
healthy choices and track every bite.
I did have a great day with my routine disrupted slightly by an
ambulance call in the middle of the morning. We could have
allowed our patient to go back to bed but chose the safest
route by taking her to the hospital to be checked by her doctor.
Athough her protests of "feeling fine" were countered with
her general appearance, she agreed. Once she was seen by
the doctor, he concluded that it was a fairly minor event but
was still glad she came in. She returned home after a battery
of tests with an admonishment to "rest". Her daughter said
she slept most of the afternoon and thanked us for our
concern. Just another day in the life of a small town EMT.
Thanks for stopping by. Time to take my cakes out of the oven.
DS has a school fundraiser and mom needed to provide a
dessert. The other cake is for the PTA bake sale. I think I
am happy both will be out of the house tomorrow. HUGS!

I feel your pain. Seems like this time of year business networking events(taht always involve food) and family events seem to increase at an alarming rate. It just gives us practice making good choices, right?
