Just another day

Monday, September 19, 2011

It was such a gorgeous day that it was a shame to stay inside.
I went to the office at 8:30, stepped out at noon for lunch and
returned to tackle the morning's tasks. It took most of the day
to get everything done. I did take a coffee break to walk around
so I could get away from the computer. I was doing cost runs
on grain bins and they are soooo time consuming. There has
to be a better program but I have yet to see it.
Tomorrow promises to be more of the same. This all stems
from updating policies each year. With the rising cost of
steel and lumber, it is a necessity. But I can think of better
things to do (like SPark) LOL!

For those who asked, golden beets are a rich yellow beet that
tastes even sweeter than the red beets. Plant early in spring
and harvest when small for the best flavor. The larger ones
can be cooked until soft. Let cool, then peel, dice and freeze.
Good eats for the winter months!
And tomorrow is the long awaited day-Coronation for the
Homecoming King and Queen. I think I am more excited than
DS! After that, the parents will meet to plan the meal for after
the football game. There will be a Homecoming Dance also.
Did you have "just another day"? Did you meet your goals,
drink your water, keep active and make good choices?
Make each day a positive one but doing just that.

Thanks for stoppin by!

Monday is "just around the corner"-

Sunday, September 18, 2011

and so the weekend goes-oh, so fast! The clouds finally cleared
out and the day turned warm. Yeah!
After church, coffee and lunch, I started cooking up some of the
golden beets to put in the freezer. I am thinking I will have 8 to
10 quarts from the 8 I cooked. They are pretty large and there
are so many more in the garden. I dug some potaotes for supper
and I have my casserole in the oven. I picked what tomatoes were
ready and they are destined to go to the minister. His tomatoes
were blighted so the crop was less than he expected.
Now it is time to finish up a few projects because tomorrow it
will be a new work week. It is also Homecoming week, with
2 volleyball games and a football game to attend. DD is the
volleyball coach so we need to support her. I know she will
appreciate it.
Have a wonderful week. Stay focused and success will be
"just around the corner". Thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Never heard of golden beets. What do they taste like? Are they easy to grow? To you plant them in spring? Plz, tell all!!! I love garden fresh vegies, too! Just not much of a gardener. You're very sweet to share your bounty! My next door neighbor has graciously shared with me, this summer, too with zuccini and tomatoes!
Have a great day, my friend! emoticon emoticon

You sound like you've been very busy today. Your week sounds even busier. I went to church, walked and did laundry. I wanted to unpack my winter clothes and pack up the summer ones but never got around to it...still have time but that goal was unmet. I hope you have a wonderful week also!

Glad your day went well. We had cloudy skies this morning, which turned into on and off rain. Didn't mind though, I had a number of indoor things to do amongst them my exercise. Getting my routine ready for winter weather so when the snow flies I'll be ready.
Have yourself a great week. I know you are always so busy, but it's still good to hear about your days. You are always so good at letting us know how the events (for the kids) went. I like hearing about those things as both of our boys are grown up and gone from the nest. I still miss the hustle and bustle of their school projects. emoticon

A more normal Saturday

Saturday, September 17, 2011

After a nail-biting football game that went into overtime, we were
ready to get in out of the cold. Our team lost by three points but
they put up a fine effort. DS had 12 tackles but needs to work on
snapping the ball more. Either it went too high or too low. It may
have had some influence on how the game ended.
5 loads on laundry out on the clothesline. It is gloomy and cloudy
and there will be better drying weather tomorrow but I washed
today. The dryer will have to finish the job.
We are baking bread today after a 4 week hiatus. Having the oven
on has warmed the kitchen up nicely. DH is baking a chocolate
cake. He is looking for comfort food LOL!
Have a wonderful Sunday and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Headed to the football game

Friday, September 16, 2011

It is going to be a cool night for a football game. If the wind stays
down, it will be tolerable. I will make sure to grab a pair of gloves
before we leave. The game is 45 minutes away so it will be a short
drive. Our next door neighbors want to come along for the ride
but the wife might change her mind because it will be too cold.
I am excited to see if the team can win tonight. You can hope for
a win and see what happens.
DH is harvesting some beets now and doing chores so we can
be ready to leave at 6. The bus just cruised past the office and
the team is on their way.
The marching band has been practicing for the first band
competition on September 30th. The Music Boosters are in
charge of the local band day and there will be 20 bands and one
college band performing for trophies ( and bragging rights).
Last year, the band won all three of the competitions they
entered. They are hoping for a repeat. The routine is coming
together and the music is improving each day. Our little town
will be full of people in 2 weeks time.
And it is time for me to scoot so I am ready to go. Have a great
night and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

I just love this time of year....football (high school, college and professional) we even have a "pee-wee" team here. I really enjoy watching all of them. Put new exercise equipment in area with a TV so if I can't go out to see a game I can at least get my minutes in while enjoying the game. I know you are going to enjoy the game tonight....cold or not they are always exciting.
So here's hoping you had fun....and a win would be nice.

Danger of frost is over

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Well, the weather stayed milder overnight than was predicted.
I can now safely uncover all the tomatoes, peppers and
eggplant. It looks to be mild, a little cooler than normal but
frost is out of the forecast for at least another week. Hurrah!
There is a chance of rain showers later today, hit and miss
with little accumulation. I can deal with that, too.
The morning was outrageously busy so I thought to blog
while it is still quiet. I do have all the mail ready to go so it
will get out on time. Some is time sensitive so I need to be
ahead of the game.
Are you ahead of the game today? Give it all you've got and see
how success feels. It is one tremendously good feeling.
HUGS!
