Full day ahead

Friday, August 05, 2011

This morning is the poultry show. It started at 8 and will finish by 10.
At noon, the dairy goat show will take place. DS has the only 2 dairy
goats this year so we'll see how they do. 4-H barbecue starts at 5,
with Fashio Revue and awards presentation.
This afternoon I will have a chance to view the horticulture exhibits.
The building was closed last night by the time we had the poultry all
On that note, it took over an hour to catch and cross reference my
list of chickens that needed to go. We did miss 2 but caught them
last night.
Nutrition was almost a train wreck. After lunch, I worked in the office
until 4, then helped crate up the chickens. We arrived at the fairgrounds
at 6:30 and penned the goats. We then took a few minutes to grab a
sandwich for supper. Thankfully I had packed two bananas for a
snack. We left the graounds about 9:45, drove home to grab a few
needed supplies and I finished the day with chocolate ice cream. At
lest then I met my nutrition goals for the day, but just barely.
I will be gone most of the day and will SP more tomorrow. I am taking
the digital camera along to take pics of the winning poultry and the
goats so you can see what we have been up to this year.
SPark on, my friends! Fill you day with success and SP!
Thanks for stopping by! emoticon emoticon emoticon

A body in motion

Thursday, August 04, 2011

tends to stay in motion. Yesterday was another day in motion that
lasted until after sunset. DH and DS worked to get all his horticulture
exhibits to the county fair. He received all purples except for one
class of cucumbers. He also received Best In Show for a class of
sweet Hungarian peppers. He was very pleased.
While the guys were at the fair, I went to the garden after work and
spent 2 hours picking cucumbers and doing chores. I took a break
for supper, then returned to pick the grape tomatoes and broccoli.
By the time I was done, it was too dark to see if the tomatoes were
really red or just orange. So I departed the garden and went home to
sort through the pickings. Some cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers
went to the quilting ladies at church. I also took some cucumbers
to the cafe. Sadly, there were so many that were overmature but
they will be goat and chicken food.
Today I am a little sore but I am working the soreness out slowly.
This afternoon we will crate up the chickens and tie up the goats
to take to the fair. I will be gone for most of the late afternoon and
evening so I am blogging earlier than usual.
Keep your body in motion and have a great day! Thanks for stopping
by! HUGS! emoticon emoticon emoticon

A firm commitment

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

DH and DS are in the garden, checking for any and all veggies to exhibit.
I do hope they can find some good ones. Since it stopped raining, I have
noticed the quality and quantity of veggies has declined. I promised that
once they have taken what they need for exhibits, I will go out tonight
and harvest the rest. I KNOW that there are plenty of cucumbers and
beans but I wanted them to have first pick. The broccoli is small
and the squash and cantaloupe need another 2 weeks before we can
think about picking. Even then, that might be a stretch. The zucchini have
faltered but I am sure they will find eggplant and peppers galore. As soon
as the tomatoes ripen, I will be canning spaghetti sauce and juice. I
am committed to restocking the shelves in the basement for winter.
Have you made a firm commitment to your healthier lifestyle? Are
you making healthy choices and working to do your cardio and strength
training on a regular basis?
Think positive, act positive and be positive! HUGS and thanks for stopping
by! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I'm definitely doing better eating healthier and absolutely love eating fresh veggies from my own garden! I have frozen tons of veggies already and am seriously thinking about buying a chest freezer since I am nearly out of room! I may even try canning some jalapenos this year-that will be a first! Loving the journey!!

Crunch time!

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

I know what you are thinking but it is that time of year when we
get ready for 4-H Achievement Days. Time to wash and clip the
goats, put leg bands on the show chickens and then wash them.
Yeah, you read it right. We wash the show birds and hope they
stay clean until the fair.
Lunch was super late today as we were in the office until 2:15.
I was back before 3 and finished the day. Then we packed up all
the supplies needed for the animals. We finished just after 9:15,
then went out for supper. Sadly, we will have to check out the
horticulture exhibits tomorrow. We should have a few exhibits
but they will be limited due to the lack of rain. Such is life.
DS has been asked to do a radio interview for 4-H and he has
to go down to the extension office early. They asked 3 members
to be interviewed so it is quite an honor to be asked. He thinks
it's "cool"!
Are you dealing with "crunch time"? Trying to get it all done?
Make the most of your day and do the best you can. That is all
you can ask of yourself.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to catch up with you tomorrow.

A matter of concentration

Monday, August 01, 2011

This being the typical first Monday-(first day of the week
AND of the month it seemed I needed more time to get
everything done and more things to do than I expected.
So being able to concentrate was high priority.
I am glad I ate a solid breakfast to carry me through until lunch.
DH is off to judge rabbits and chickens for 4-H in a town about 45
minutes away. It is pretty hot and he will be miserable unless they
have a fan running for him. I have EMT class tonight so the 2 boys
are on their own for supper. Plus, they go trap shooting tonight at
goodness knows what time. Our poor cat will be home all alone LOL!
Let August be your month of concentration. Focus on your goals
for a successful month. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh boy...all I had to read about was your cat being alone...I'm lamenting over leaving our Keanu cat home alone with just a cat sitter checking in on him while we are away on vacation.

That little sweetheart is SO LONELY since he lost his momma cat (and his best friend) last August. He truly follows me around the house like a little puppy dog and as soon as I sit down, he is RIGHT there beside me.

We LOVE our animals don't we? I just HATE leaving him to go visit people I barely give a hoot about...sounds pretty harsh, but any day with this darling little kitty angel is better than a day without him. emoticon

Hugs and stay's scortching HOT here in FL!

He's getting older (age 14)and is SO finicky about what he will and won't eat...I just hope he makes it without us...otherwise I'll just feel terrible! emoticon
