Rain last night

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

We had 3/4 inch of rain late last night and a drying wind today so I
could cut lettuce and pick spinach again. 3 grocery bags of lettuce,
1 of spinach-good eats! I spent some time weeding in the garden
before doing chores. It was so nice outside it was a shame to come in.
I spoke with the adjustor tonight about finishing off our claim from
last year's explosion two houses down. I have almost everything
done, just need to figure up our time for clean-up and a few minor
details. He wanted to do this months ago but the painting was just
done 2 weeks ago. He thinks I am "too patient". Well, I guess I
had other things on my mind and I knew it would get done. I can
live with almost anything and still be happy. It could have been so
much worse.
Look at the bright side and be "patient" with yourself. Give yourself
time to get it right. And, by all means, smile! It could always be worse.
Thanks for stopping by-HUGS! emoticon emoticon

Oh, do I ever miss Michigan (my home state) where spinach and lettuce grow so well! Here, in W Texas, it gets too hot too quickly, and it bolts within a couple of days! YUMMY! You really made it sound tasty! emoticon emoticon emoticon

So glad you can finally put the effects of the explosion behind you! My spinach is just now ready and one row of the lettuce didn't bother to come up! Radishes are ready. Now it looks like I will be moving before tomatoes and bell peppers get going well! Maybe there will be a good farmers market in Iowa! Hugs!

That's a lot of rain in one hit, Marsha. I suppose with the wind, it wouldn't have had time to be too much and certainly would do your garden a lot of good.

You've certainly 'bagged' enough lettuce and spinach. All good.

Have a great day!

Mmmmm, I just love lettuce & spinach.

I'm glad for you that things are finally going to be settle. It's been a long haul & I'm glad you haven't allowed the adjustor or anyone else for that matter, to yank your chain

Strawberry update

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

We hulled 4 pails of strawberries last night and froze 12 quart bags of
luscious fruit. Time to pick again tonight if the rain stays away. It will
be a muddy mess regardless.
Have a great Tuesday!

Awwww, making me miss our berries-of course our season runs Jan-Apr so our berries are done for the year but they were wonderful this year-think the cold winter made them sweeter.
Enjoy a bowl for me.

Instead of moving to Iowa, I should be moving to your town. Then you could plant flowers in MY yard, share your wonderful cooking and strawberrries! Enjoy those strawberries!

Kinda of a drippy day

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Early morning showers and cloudy conditions but I am in the mood
for making it an outstanding day!
DH is gone for his 6 month visit to the cardiologist. He had to skip
breakfast, which always makes him a little crabby. I am very
interested to hear what the DR has to say about his progress
since last year. I have a feeling that most of the reports will be good
but have a sneaky suspicion that his weight will be an issue. He
has regained almost all that he lost but he tries to walk almost
every day so that is a plus. I think he needs to rein in his eating
a little. I made a strawberry shortcake on Sunday. He ate all but
3 pieces. Good thing I had my piece of the shortcake, minus the
strawberries, the first night. I even made REAL whipped cream!
That was on top of a 10 ounce hamburger steak that he insisted
he needed to eat. Oh, well. He will have to figure it out on his own.
That seemed like way too much meat at one time.
On the plus side, we have been eating lots of fresh asparagus,
lettuce, spinach and radishes from the garden. I try to limit the
amount of cream and butter I use to dress them up. But again,
he needs all that flavor. Parmesan cheese on top and it might
even taste good LOL!
Make Tuesday an outstanding day by focusing on healthy choices,
plenty of water and the right mix of cardio and ST. You CAN do it!
HUGS and thanks for reading and commenting! emoticon

Feeling those leg muscles today!

Monday, June 13, 2011

I can tell that I need to push-mow the lawn more often. I have been
doing strength exercises but mowing the lawn was a whole new
experience. I can feel it today but it is good knowing that I got
in some good cardio and am getting stronger.
We spent some time in the garden last night. I was cutting lettuce
and harvesting the asparagus. That season will soon be over but
it is good eating until then. The spinach needed to be picked as well.
We had over .65 of an inch of rain this morning. It was loud enough
to wake me up just before 5. I am so thankful that I mowed yesterday.
DS is gone to Performing Arts camp. Last night was auditions and he
felt very confident that he did well. He has such a stron tenor voice
so he may get a solo this year again. The directors make it a point
to hightlight as many voices as they can. When the kids have talent,
they make sure to use it.
Crop insurance is winding up. This is the month for all the farmers
to turn in their planted acres. So far, just a handful are done planting.
It is always a rush season.
Are you feeling the rush? Are you trying to get so much done that
you are setting yourself up for failure? Focus and concentrate on
doing what you can but leave yourself time to enjoy the journey!
Stress just hinders you.
Thanks for reading and commenting! Have a great day! emoticon

Wow you have been and a re still so busy with the planting. We have been sstruggling without rain for almost 3 months now. Even so, I am not much of a gardener. I do know that mowing is a real job for your legs. Great job.
