Road I.D. App for iPhone

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

I just discovered the app for iPhone users called Road ID. It is useful for runners to allow them to alert family members in case of emergency, but it is also a great app for anyone with an iPhone. I always keep a pass code lock on my phone, so unless someone knows my pass code my phone contacts cannot be accessed in an emergency. Now with this app, I was able to create a lock screen that displays emergency contact info for up to 3 people to notify. It is also a free app!i plan to add this to my daughters phone, too.

Also note that emergency providers have learned to look for the code ICE on cell phones. ICE stands for "in case of emergency". Just place ICE as one of your contacts and then input the family members name. Mine says ICE husband, ICE daughter, ICE mother... and so on.

C25K program

Sunday, July 21, 2013

I have completed this program once before and I know it really works. I am using an app on my phone called Ease into 5k that I like. Before, I only ran on my treadmill which is better than nothing, but always running on my treadmill put me at a disadvantage when it came time to run outside in an actual event. This time I am starting over and I am doing all my "runs" outside. I am currently on week 3 day2. So far so good. Last week, I was visiting my family back in MS and I did all of week 2's runs while enjoying the view of the MS river as I ran along the river walk. This week, i am back home in AL and working 12 hour nights but i have still managed to complete week 3 day 1 after working all night. My husband went on that run with me at the park by my house. I make sure to go early before it gets too hot but I am still a hot, sweaty mess when I am through. It is a great feeling when I finish a run. I am looking forward to when I can run 30 minutes straight outside. Breathing properly is something I need to work on so any tips are appreciated.

Like you, I'm redoing the training program. I read this article when I first started and it helps with breathing. I highly recommend it,

Experimenting with Juicing

Saturday, February 16, 2013

Last night I bought a NutriBullet using gift cards I received from Christmas. I have seen the commercials on TV and I have been reading online about the benefits of juicing. I have issues with my stomach and I have decided I am tired of suffering. Something has to change. Not to mention, I am feeling very miserable and swollen. My energy level is nonexistent also. I am hoping to incorporate more fruits and vegetables to my diet and hopefully in turn this will help my stomach issues and give me more energy. I also bought a couple of books on juicing and I have been reading blogs online of people who have completed juice fasts. I am hoping to start with a 1 day juice fast to see how it goes.

Good luck with the juicing, i like doing it during the summer and i think it works out pretty well because if you mix a lot of veggies and fruits so you end up with a lot of fiber.

I have a Nutribullet as well. So far, I've used it to make my smoothies! But, I want to increase my veggie intake as well. Please stay in touch and let us know how you're doing!

I didn't do a juice a fast, but I do juice. My favorite: 4 carrots, 2 apples, 1/4-1/2 lemon, and a slice of ginger root. Great after a workout---or anytime!

Another 5K

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

I have taken the plunge and signed up for another 5K. I stopped running a few months ago so I will be starting all over again. It is hard for me to get motivated lately. I don't know if it is the weather we have been having this month or if nightshift is taking its toil or most likely a combination of both. I stay very tired lately. Hopefully, I can get motivated to get off my behind and start training. I know once I finally get back into the habit I will feel much better.

I hear you with this one. Sometimes it is extremely hard to get motivated. I myself tend to avoid running in the rain, or even when it is too crowded outside. Congrats to you for signing up for the 5k! I really hope that will be a great motivator for you. You are right, it will feel better once you start running regularly!

Me, a runner???

Monday, September 17, 2012

Several months back, I started the C25K program. I had attempted it several times in the past, but I could never get past week 2 or 3 at the most. My friend/coworker also started the program and she encouraged me to sign up for the Color Run 5K. This sounded like fun to me, so I did sign up. That was the best thing I could have ever done because this gave me an actual goal to work towards. It also helped that I had someone going through it with me. The day of the race was this past Labor Day. It was pouring down rain, but thankfully that wasn't enough to cancel the race. Although we did have to walk/run the race, we were still proud of our accomplishment. It felt really great to finish a goal. Now, we are already looking to sign up for our next 5K to complete.

That is one of the best ways to start running...having a race to look forward to. For me, my first race was not about a specific time or running the whole thing, it was just about finishing it. It gave me the sense of accomplishment, and now I love running
