DO NOT, ABSOLUTELY, DO NOT go shopping of any kind if I've got a headache!
I ended up going shopping yesterday for my new juicer and while I got that I also ended up splurging and first bought a large soft pretzel with cheese at Walmart (actually Subway in Walmart).
Then later with my son I went to Safeway. Yes, I bought some nice healthy apples, asparagus and I even bought a birthday card for my wonderful husband. But I also splurged and bought a box of Almond truffles AND chocolate covered espresso beans.
Afterwards I was asking myself over and over "Why did I do that? WHY?" I don't need that junk food. Plus I know I'm not really going to eat much of it. If anything, my husband will come home from training and eat it all. (and he REALLY doesn't need it!)

Or at least it seems to be a trick to me! Maybe everyone else knew about this one and just I was in the dark, I don't know, but I like it!
Ever since I've been watching what I eat each day I start getting weak by about 3pm. By 5p (about the time I arrive home) I'm famished. I just want to eat and eat and eat. In the past I have eaten a few snacks but of course stopped after a few bites of something or another since I know I'm about to eat dinner. Then I'd eat dinner and then of course next morning there is no suprise when I haven't lost a lb. NO WONDER I HAVEN'T! I ate too much the night before!
So a few nights ago I had an idea. Brew myself a pot of tea and drink THAT while making dinner.
That way I'm filling my stomach somewhat so I don't feel quite so hungry, it's satisfying that hand to mouth urge that we may all have when you really want to snack on something, and lately with our cooler temperatures it's welcome as by the time I've been getting home I've been a little chilled.
I'm a big tea drinker. I have all sorts of teas at home. Chamomile, Genmai Cha, Jasmine Green, Gunpowder, Lemongrass, Orange spice, Earl Grey, English breakfast. You name it, I got it.
Sooo now it remains to be seen if this neat little trick actually DOES the trick and make the scale move ever so slowly downwards!

Last night I went to bed earlier thinking "okay, I'll get to sleep early so I can wake up early and work out!" Well, yes, I did go to sleep by 930pm but then when my alarm turned on this morning at 445am I sleepily reached over, turned it off and said, "Okay gotta get up, I just want to lie here for a few minutes" Next thing I know I open my eyes and it is 530am. WONDERFUL! By this point of course I know I won't be able to work out. My work out window is between 5am to 530am to 545am. Any later than that and I'm running late. Especially if my toddler son is acting up. (like toddlers tend to do).
So tonight I'm hoping to maybe fit in some cardio. We'll just have to see how it goes. It also depends somewhat on my arm. I've found that Yoga really stresses the incision site. Lifting weights isn't so bad but that is hard to do with my son running around (which is the reason I do that early in the morning before I take a shower and get ready for work). My son really likes Yoga which is suprising. He hates it when I do aerobics though with my Yourself program on the Xbox.
Oh and I started tracking my steps! I think my pedometer is not acurately tracking my steps though because by the time I got to work I looked down and it said I had taken ..... 1 step. Uhhh I don't think so! I put it on once I had gotten fully dressed and was getting up my son.
My morning routine is always, get me up hopefully in time for a good cardio workout, then lift weights, then take a shower and get myself ready, (now strap on my pedometer), then get my son up and dressed, rush downstairs, open the blinds to let the sun and fresh air in, get my son a fig newton and some milk while I strap on my cell phone to my waist and put my glasses on. Grab my breakfast or lunch fixings from the fridge, put it in my work bag, then put the rest of my sons unfinished milk into the fridge, rush to the car, get him strapped in his carseat, get my seatbelt buckled, drive to daycare, drop him off. (which sometimes means chasing him down the hallway and other times means "racing" with him down the hallway. This way I can get him MOVING fast so I can get out of there FAST!). Drive as fast as I can now to work, then race up to the office.
Whew! Okay so I know I took more than 1 STEP!

A few posts ago I mentioned that it seemed easier on the elliptical machine. Well I figured it out. The cardio part is not exactly easier. It's the effort that I have to put out to move the pedals that's easier.
In other words, I have built muscle, obviously, in my legs.
I worked out on Sunday morning for 15 minutes and, yes, it was still tough and during parts of the workout I felt like my heart was about to burst through my chest and fly across the room but my legs don't burn quite as bad as they used to.
It takes me going really SUPER fast now to accomplish that.
I swear! I just have to start a spark streak and keep with it!
I think my very short term goal is to just exercise for 5 days straight on the elliptical machine every morning. If I can do that, well then I can accomplish other greater things! I don't know what yet but I'll climb that mountain when I get to it!

This past week I've been sick with the cold that I caught from my wonderful son who loves to share both kisses and colds and flus.
So that said, I've been barely energetic enough to get myself ready for work. Therefore I haven't had a whole lot of energy to spare for cardio workouts.
The good news is I am starting to feel a bit better. The better news is this time this cold did not completely knock me down like past colds. I haven't developed bronchitis, a sinus infection, or even walking Pneumonia like I have in the past.
Therefore obviously the changes I've made in my life are starting to take effect.
So yeah, I agree, that seems to be progress of a sort.
But more excitingly, this morning I put on my jeans, tucked in my shirt, started fastening my belt and ......huh? What? I am able to go one whole further on my belt! Have I lost that many inches on my tummy and waistline? I didn't think so but obviously I have.
