I am so tired today! I have no clue other than the fact that now I go to bed at about 9pm to 930p and then wake up to work out at 430am approximately. In between that is the rat race of getting myself ready, my son ready, get out of the house, drop him off at preschool, get me to work, eat breakfast as fast as humanly possible, take phone call after phone call from customers who want to change their itineraries, refund their tickets, cancel their reservations, book flights, make car rental reservations and then just to race back to my sons preschool, pick him up, race home, get dinner made, help son with homework, have some quality time with son, get son in bath, get son in bed. Whew. Collapse.
Oops, no. Can't do that. Still need to work out.
This morning I was going to actually get up and work out on the elliptical however my bed felt so warm and cozy and the Tony Robbins book "Awaken the Giant within" had lots of good points to read about.
If you haven't ever read that book I highly recommend it. Especially if you have had past behaviours or habits that you're trying to kick. This includes efforts in LOSING WEIGHT.
So I stayed in bed.
I so cannot wait till the weekend already. I'm exhausted and it's only Wednesday! I forgot how much work it is when my hubby is gone. I have to race ten times as fast to get even more done and of course there is the non stop listing going off in my head.
*Sweep the floors, check.
*Vacuum, still need to be done.
*Eww the bathrooms are filthy, need to clean those.
*Drat, another plant dead, put the pot outdoors.
*Darn, I think those plants outdoors really need some water. Gonna have to do that later.
Joy, oh joy. The list just never grows smaller!

I could really go for about 2 free days to get it all done as well as all the running around I need to do.
emoticon

Need some sleep. No, not going to be able to get some sleep. Okay, need some coffee. emoticon
Nope, instead boss just delived some M&M's to my desk. emoticon
Okay, here's to hoping they help me wake up, just a tiny bit.

And I'm not going to eat the whole bag. Not with it being 200 calories. No way, jose.
I'm slowly eating and enjoying (Man I haven't had chocolate for a while!) and waiting for the sugar and caffeine rush to hit. Come on caffeine, hit me big time baby!

:) Well look on the bright side, all those activities are making you burn calories! Maybe you should do Jillians 30 day shred every other day (but do 2 levels on that day). That way your muscles have time to recuperate and rebuild. Shred everyday is going to tire you out and probably burn you out too. Just because your on my spark team doesn't mean you have to go crazy ya know! hehe.

I have to agree with Becky, hang in there. I teach fulltime, taking 4 graduate classes right now and have a hubby and two girls. You are doing better than me for I have refused lately to get up early to exercise and take time to read and stay in bed until I have too. I know it is hard but as a friend told me, it is like labor, we will forget all the hard work after we begin to enjoy our new freedom of being healthy.

Hang in there, girlfriend. It's not easy, I know, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel! I know what you mean about the bed being so nice and toasty....I'm one of those who has to get up early too, but I usually don't manage to make it to bed before 11 or midnight and it gets to you. Just remember in the middle of taking care of everyone else that you have to take care of you, too.

Today begins the challenge

Monday, April 19, 2010

It's actually my own challenge to myself.
My hubby has left for a business trip/school for 30 days. So the challenge is how many inches can I lose? How much weight can I lose?
I've actually done this before. My husband is a soldier and once when I still worked at Fort Wainwright Alaska I did this. Amazingly enough, I ended up losing 15 lbs. Couldn't believe I did that well.
That was with me eating around 1600 calories, sometimes more. Working out with my elliptical machine in the mornings for 30 minutes and then doing a bit of cardio or yoga in the afternoons with my son. (he's really good at pretending he's a tree)
It's amazing how well my body responds when I'm exercising, eating healthy, drinking LOTS of water and most of all, abstaining completely from any sort of alcoholic drink.
The weight literally melts off me. Plus, my blood pressure goes down to a VERY healthy level.

That is partly the reason I avoid the doctors attempts to put me on blood pressure medicine. I know I can do it myself. The trick is just to simply make eating healthy and exercising a priority.

Tonight I plan on spending 20 minutes with Jillian after my son goes to bed. I'm going to have to modify some of the exercises however as I can't be jumping up and down when my son is trying to fall asleep down the hallway.
Tomorrow morning, pilates. Or elliptical. One of the two. I may have to revise that actually. Maybe pilates tonight, elliptical and Jillian tomorrow. As long as I get up on time.
This morning I was actually awake at 2am and onward but I stayed in bed with hope that I would fall back asleep.
It'll be interesting to see how well I do. And it will be even MORE interesting to see if I can keep it up after hubby comes home.

Oh something amusing. Okay so we had a BBQ at work on Friday. Well today I overheard many of my coworkers talking amongst themselves that they have gained too much weight lately. That it's time to diet. This is becoming a monthly ritual it seems. So now out of 10 people in the office 3 are "officially" on a diet. Me not included as I'm not on a diet. I just eat healthy. Oops shouldn't have said that! I'll get hit over the head with a candy bar if I say that in this office!

I know how you feel. I lost almost 30 pounds while my husband was in Kuwait two summers ago. When he came back I put it all back on plus a little extra. Now I am trying again. Good luck with your challenge.

Jillian Michaels 30DS Review

Friday, April 16, 2010

Jillian REALLY kicked my butt!
However the upper body (which I count as arms, shoulders, chest) was rather easy to me. Abs and any kind of squats killed me.
The nice thing about this video is you have Jillian telling you exactly what needs to be done as the other actresses/trainers are displaying the exercise. This is nice because as your doing the exercise you don't have to keep looking up at the tv.
Plus as one part of the workout ends Jillian gives you a good amount of notice to prepare to end whatever it is you are doing and also announces what is coming up next.
The only negative that I found is Jillian does not tell you before the workout starts exactly what you will need. Luckily I had hand weights right near me but I did not have my pilates mat out so instead of doing crunches on the floor I did them on my bed. Made it much more difficult as my bed is a water bed. So FYI, pilates mat and hand weights are useful to have out when working out with this.
Today I am rather sore but not horribly so. Mostly I had difficulties during the workout with anything that required jumping. After about a minute my knees were screaming amen and after about two minutes they were literally making noise. So unfortunately I had to change parts of the workout to exercises that were less impact on those joints while still keeping my heart rate up.
I almost finished the entire workout however after approximately 15 minutes my husband and son arrived home, and three minutes later my husband came into the bedroom where I was exercising and started talking to me so I just gave up, looked at the clock andthen got working on dinner. That being said, I am proud that I got that far!
One thing I found rather odd. This isn't against the video, it's more against the GoWear Fit. When I took it off after the workout and then attached it to my PC it did show I exercised but for only about 5 minutes total. Weird. Especially because I know my heart rate had gone up. That bears some watching.

One big thing I noticed this morning. I woke up STARVING! Even last night after dinner I was still slightly hungry.

All in all, I would give this a 4 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon out of 5.

I purchased this on Amazon used but in new condition for 8.99. With my Amazon Prime I got free shipping so it wasn't that bad of a deal.

I love the shred. No More Trouble Zones is great too. With that one since it's 50 minutes I use the 3lb weights. The shred I use 5lbs. Just be warned. Level 2 felt like a 20 minute plank. :)

SUMITH2008 4/17/2010 1:23PM

I think 5lbs or 8lbs is ideal for 30 day shred. There is some exercises where 5 lbs is just to light and you might want to up it with a 8,10 or 12. Did you notice our P90X Hybrid tracking thread, Namo is tracking her rep counts on there. You might want to also, that way you can decide if you need to up the weight or not and maybe beat your rep counts next time you do the workout. The body reacts faster when you push your limits, of course safety first.

Sumi, I think I may have to try to up my weights. I did the workout with 3 lb. I'm going to try it with 5lbs instead.
Today I'm super sore on my glutes, quads, and hamstrings. Nothing at all on arms.

I was just the opposite! I didn't have any problems with the lower body, it was the upper body that killed me! LOL While I was doing it it was ok and even the next morning I wasn't to sore but as the day went on my chest tightened up and i almost could bring my hands together by the end of the day! LOL Glad you like it!
Keep up the good work!

This is still one of my favorite dvd workouts. If i ever want to make the workout challenging, just increase the weights to 10/12 lbs and you arms might just fall off. I duplicated the DVD on to my laptop so when we travel and i need to good workout that only takes 20 mins this will definitely do the trick. I did the 30 day shred and rotated the days everyday for 30 days, so you won't get bored doing the same level 10 days straight. Once i got good with the levels i just doubled up the workouts (like doing Level 1 and 2 on the same day). This workout will get anyone back in to shape.

The arms section kills me, but I feel nothing during the abs. I recall the first time I did this, I only had 10-lb dumbbells. I had trouble walking for a few days my legs were so sore!

My knees killed me with the shred. Never thought I had knee problems until doing the shred. I stopped, but darn I was getting results until I couldn't walk without pain. I might give it a try again and modify all the jumping. I did find her new yoga one but have not looked at it yet.

Seeing a connection here/new DVD's to try

Thursday, April 15, 2010

I'm almost wondering if my calorie amount needs to be change. Oddly enough lately I've been noticing that I LOSE weight when I go slightly over my allowed 1550. Makes me almost think that I'm not consuming ENOUGH calories for weight loss, that I'm forcing my body into starvation.
I'm going to start testing it out today.
I have also noticed, thanks to my GoWearFit that everyday I'm averaging about 2500 calories burnt and that is WITHOUT working out. Interesting.
I did find out last night that my sleep has been severely lacking. I've been averaging about 6 hours total a night since Monday. Needless to say, I'm a friendly walking zombie right now. Don't worry. I don't bite.
Last night topped it as my son was up NON stop due to a cold that is obviously affecting both his sinuses and his lungs. I'm trying my best to stay away from him and his germs while giving him motherly love and compassion.
That and I'm repeatedly telling myself "YOU WILL NOT GET SICK, YOU WILL NOT GET SICK" and also praying to God "please don't let me get sick again!"

Last night I got two new DVDs. I will do the reviews shortly.
First one was Jillian Michaels 30Day Shred.
I am REALLY going to try for this tonight once I get dinner started. I like the fact that all the reviews say that the 20 minute workout kicks your butt in just 20 minutes. As many a working Mom knows, time is a highly desirable asset that I work to gain. Anything that can fit in 20 minutes and is good for me gets an A.

Next is my somewhat relaxing, somewhat cardio workout that I plan to try.

This one has really good reviews on Amazon. I can't wait to try it!

Last but not least, I just got this one.

The first two I consider as the workout ones. The third one I think is going to just be PLAIN FUN!

A little known fact about me. I usedto dance. A LOT. From the age of 4 to 14 years old I was in Ballet, Jazz and Tap.
Mostly my forte was Jazz. I had a bright future ahead as a very gifted dancer however fate got in my way. My knees gave out by the time I was 15. By the time I was 20 I had the beginning of a series of reconstructive knee surgeries.
Now a days, even though from about the hip down I'm a bit slower I still love dance immensely. Hilariously enough, I dance like crazy from the waist up when I'm driving and listening to something like Shakira. Other drivers look at me like I've gone mad. Don't care, I'm having fun singing and dancing. emoticon
So anyways, I digress, this last DVD looks like so much fun.
I'm even tempted to get one of those wraps with the little bells. I've always heard that belly dancing was an awesome ab workout so I figured I'd mix things up a bit and keep things fun!
After all, isn't that the reason so many quit exercising and all. It's not always fun.

Okay, also, note to self. NEVER EVER get salads from the commisary. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
I can see why my coworkers hate eating healthy salads and stuff. This salad was old (the lettuce was pink and the green parts were literally decomposing), the chicken was salty and chewy and the dressing was WAY salty.
Gotta remember that. I should have just stuck with the sandwich and cucumber slices that I atebut a salad just sounded so good that I wanted to add a bit to my meals today.
Bad decision. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

RODENT you should be amazing in NO time. Because you were a dancer your body has muscle memory about what it used to be like and do. It will get back to that very quickly. Clever you to work to your strengths, and getting exercise that works with what you love.
I think you have cracked the code for you. Now, I am excited to see you nail it.
About the flu, echinasea should tide you over?
