How many calories do we need??

When a lot of us were checking out ore "Real Age" I signed up for newsletters and some have been interesting. Today one came where you can go to the link I will add in a minute and find out how many calories it takes to maintain whatever weight you are at now. Then you can redo it and put in weight you are aiming for. That will be amount of calories you need at that weight.So if you aim for that amount you will lose.To maintain at 274 I need 2395 calories and to maintain at 180 I need 1862. So if I am under 1800 I should lose. I do know that if I average under 2000 I lose a small amount. So if I could average under the 1800 now i would lose better. I just thought it was interesting.
Oh on the real age quiz I did horrible.It said my real age was 82. I will take it again in a few weeks and see what it says.

Ok My Food Demon whooped me soundly last night. I did good until 11 pm. Today is a new day
I have my exercises all done and even sat outside and read my book. Not a lot of sun today.Very cloudy and it even rained a little. But it is 70 degrees so that is nice.

Ok nothing else new. Bill's birthday is tomorrow so I have to figure out something to surprise him. I may have to even leave the house tomorrow.
Ok I hope you are all doing ok. I am about ready for a nap. emoticon

As for that "Food Demon," have you pinpointed a specific time that you have trouble? I found that anytime after 8:00 p.m. was DANGEROUS for me to be in the kitchen - I'd get this irresistible urge to graze on just about anything. Since I got my laptop and laptop stand, I'm upstairs and no where near the kitchen for the rest of the night - It's helped a lot!

That link was interesting. I'm shocked at how many calories to maintain at 150 (which is a LONG way away). It said I need to consume 1875 calories. Interesting. The Wii Fit has a Real Age game based on different movements. It's interesting. It said my son is 63 and he's 9!!! emoticon

We didn't get as much snow as they said, which was good. We're getting another round tomorrow into Wednesday but hopefully it'll be less than an inch. By the end of the week we should hit 30 degrees! WHOO-HOOOO!!!

    Wow, that was really interesting. According to that calculation, I can maintain my present (over)weight with 2100 calories. But what I really found surprising is their suggestion that I could maintain 129 (my goal) at 1900 calories. Gee, I hope that's true!!

I'm going to have to leave the house, too, tomorrow. Our 32nd wedding anniversary is Thursday. Maybe we can just go on an outing together. emoticon

Busy But Good Day

Whew - - - - I am pooped.
I started my day off after doing just a little sparking with my exercises. I did some extra today. My new goal is to do extra as many times as I can. Then took my shower and got dressed and it was noon time. So I started doing some salad prep work for the coming days. I still had veggies that need gotten ready for varies things. But I have added new and more stuff to my lunch salad. Not a lot but more different things. So I bagged a bunch of stuff up so it is easy to take some out . I hope the carrots slices don't turn dark. Anyway. I have a bag for small pieces of broccoli,cauliflower,carrots,shredded cabbage. I have 2 different kinds of lettuce cut up in bite sizes. I have a green pepper cleaned and ready to cut a slice off. Celery is divided up and wrapped in foil. So I am all set up for salad making. I have made a huge salad the last two days and I have plenty for lunch and to snack on in afternoon. I find I eat less that way during the day.
I read somewhere that if you ate the same thing for breakfast and lunch you would lose weight better as it is all planned etc.That works for me most of the time as weekend days I do that. Breakfast is always a fruit. and lunch is soup and salad. I don't get tired of it and I can have a lot for a few calories.
After lunch I took my book and went outside to pool deck and sat in sunshine for 20 minutes.Sorry but it was beautiful.No snow.Just sunshine and light breeze and 60deg.A perfect day.
Next it was soup making time and bag other veggies up. Bill came home when I was making soup and I hope I didn't miss anything when I was counting calories. I ended up with 36 cups of soup. Which is about 18 bags as I put 2 cups per bag. The calories were on 68 a bag but I rounded it up to 75 for good measure. I put 6 in fridge and rest in freezer.
While the soup was cooling we went for a ride.We drove out to Howard Park to see the new causeway.They shut the beach down for a year to repair bridges etc.They did a nice job at the two bridges and built fishing over hangs.
They we ate out for supper. I planned for it so I am still in good shape. I had to guesstimate so I went on high side. My total breakfast and lunch was only about 350 and the only snacking I did was my leftover salad.
Then we stopped at grocery store so"Bill" could run in. I had him pick me up a bag of frozen cauliflower to add to my soup when I eat it.I was pleasantly surprised to see that 1 cup is only 25 calories.
So I am all set for soup and salads all week. He will get me more cucumbers and tomatoes later in week.

I am pulling away slowly but surely.Beat him last night and should today too.But never know til night is over.

I did enjoy watching Apollo race last night. I really wanted him to win the gold but he was a good sport about getting bronze. Quite the gentleman. I think I enjoy the winter Olympics better than summer.

And speaking of Olympics. Bill went down to Bradenton early this morning( Too early for me to make the trip) to bowl in a tournament to qualify to bowl in Senior Olympics in the fall. Not only did he qualify but he got a Bronze medal. And he didn't bowl his best but he said everyone was having trouble.

Ok I am headed to living room to rest. I will work on my emails later. Hope you all had a nice weekend emoticon

    Planning ahead is the key, isn't it? Seems like that's when I have my downfall, when I don't plan ahead. You are certainly all ready for the week, now! What kind of soup do you make? Vegetable is my favorite kind. Don't feel bad about the nice weather...I've been snowed in most of the winter, but yesterday the temp climbed to over 60 degrees! Yay!

I always love to go for a ride on Sundays.. Someday I would love to be able to visit Florida, but I may never get to. My sister lives in Alabama, and I've never been there either..I don't know if I could stand to ride that far in a car.. and I don't fly.. I've flown 3 times on a plane, and the last time I got very ill..and now with all the high security they make you go through at the airports, I doubt that I'll ever go again..

I bet your area of Florida is beautiful. That would be nice to see some of the pictures of your city/town..

Watched a good movie on tv tonight with my hubby.. it was on the Lifetime Movie Network, called 'sins of a mother'.. really good clean movie..

    All those vegetables and that soup sound delicious! Mmmmmmm . . . cauliflower! I like to put zucchini in my soup, too. I don't think your carrot slices will turn brown if you have a little bit of water sprinkled over them. Those baby carrots in bags don't turn brown, but then, I never read the bag to see if they add anything. The organic ones don't turn brown, either.

I was hungry all day today. Don't know what's up with that. Felt worn out, too. Maybe it was the trip. I took two naps.

I'm happy for you that you had a perfect weather day for reading beside the pool. Sounds glorious! I am very thankful we are supposed to get rain tomorrow. Maybe it will melt the rest of the snow that is hanging around on the ground and in big piles on every corner. It's filthy!

I looked up the name of your town on Google maps today (already forgot the name of it). Looks like you live very, very close to the shore of the Gulf. Wow!!! All that water looks scary to me (weather), but I am sure it is beautiful there. I looked at the pic of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. It's beautiful.

I Reached a New Low. Whoopee!!!!!!

I am very happy with my weigh in today. I lost 3.5#. I have been in the same 5 # or so range for months now. This is a new low for me. The last time I weighed this was 10 years ago. When I left TOPS I got rid of everything except for my weight books. Just so I could see how I was doing. So the weighing and exercise paid off today.Now to keep it going.
I have increased my total exercises to over an hour each day.My goal is only 10 minutes so if I have a day when I don't feel well I can still feel like I did ok. I am doing between 20 minutes to 1 hr 20 minutes. All depends on how I feel and if I have a rare day away from home.
Oh I started with Spark at 320.6 and I weighed 274.5 today. I was thinking I was never going to see 275.
I also beat my food demon last night. It is looking good for today.
On my zookinesis tape for weight loss he has some tips and suggestions for weight loss. One was to add a bigger variety of stuff in my daily 2 salads that I eat. So I did. I was looking for an additional lettuce and a lady shopper helped me out as I was about to get one that wasn't good for salads. So I have 3 diff lettuces. I also added a little broccoli and cauliflower and green pepper to the mix.

Bill helped me and I got the two small orchids that Rebekah gave me potted today. I also got out my tulip bulbs from last year and they were already starting to sprout. I also put them in pots. If they do good I want to get them in the ground somewhere and not have to fool with them. I also redid just a couple of plants. I have one large orchid that I got a few years ago and I saw it has 4 big stalks coming. It is a different kind from my ones I usually show you. So I feel like I actually got something accomplished. There is more work that needs done on patio. I wish I could just do it myself but I have to wait til someone will help me. I hate being so helpless about things I could do myself before My heart turned against me. But I just do what I can.

The weather is awesome. Sunny and warm. This is the way Florida is suppose to be. I hope you are all having a good day. I am tired so I think I am going to go take a short nap.

    emoticon emoticonhi Eleni, well done. yes putting cauliflower in salads makes a nice crunch to it and spinach if you like it special baby spinach.i get into my salads in the warmer weather.i got cabbage and carrots and parnips and a lot of onions to use up.maybe i,ll do a small soup for the week too.i got to get into my fruit more and yogurt got it in the fridge but haven,t ate any yet.well Eleni, you keep going there and i,ll try harder to stick with mine. the weight you are now i,m at and i feel so tired all the time i hate it specially when i know i was thinner, i don,t want to be really thin just to see some of it coming off.ok keep up the good work Eleni, you are doing wonderful. you go girl! emoticon

    Wow!!!!! Way to go on the weight loss and the new low. That is tremendous progress, and it is also very encouraging!!! We went on our trip today for the funeral and got to be in 53-degree sunny weather! That was the best part of the day. Also, the house where everyone gathered to eat together afterwards had a sun room, so I was in there . . . lots of windows, two skylights, and lots of warm sunshine. I just added everything to my food tracker that I ate today (including desserts), and I managed to stay within my range so far. There were lots of healthy choices to eat and some absolutely scrumptious-looking desserts. It was hard to choose until I saw my 98-1/2-year-old mother-in-law's pineapple pound cake. I had a small slice. Don't know what was in it, so I just counted it as a 2 oz. serving of pineapple-upside-down cake. Close enough. (As they say in Washington, D.C., "close enough for government work.") Ha!

I blogged last night about my dog (and cat), so maybe you can read it when you have time.

    Congratulations on the weight loss. Thanks for the blog comment. I always check my blog to see what you have written. It's almost like a visit. Mother did seem better today. My cousin went over and sat with her for a while and she really enjoyed that.

Wish I could grow orchids. Mine just sit there and die one leaf at a time. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please send pictures of yours. At least I can enjoy yours that way.

Another Good Day

I did really good yesterday and was at low end of range. We ate out for lunch today but plan on keeping calories down for supper so I should be ok.
I have been doing good with exercise lately. My new zookinesis is great.I have done it every day so far. Plus my other tapes.
The weather is nice today. I am tired of the cold weather.
Well my dear friends I don't have much to say today. It has been very quiet.

    Way to go, beating that food demon and exercising every day!!! I got back to recording my food today. I'd been in quite a funk for several weeks, and I guess I went "rogue." Gained three pounds. Serves me right. Our snow is beginning to melt. I can actually see a patch of grass in the front yard. Back yard is still all ice and snow, though. I finished knitting a cotton blend tank top for the Peru Mission Team's fund-raising auction in April. It only took me one week. I ordered way too much yarn (not really knowing what I'd be making with it), so I'm using the rest of it to make a carry-all tote. I still need to block my stuff that I've knitted lately so I can upload pics. Won't be doing it right away, though. We're going to my brother-in-law's funeral tomorrow in Newport News, VA, two hours southeast of here. Doug and I have been married 32 years this month, and his family is humongous! His mother is 98 1/2 years old, and my husband is the youngest of her nine children. Imagine that, at 66 years old, he's the "baby." God bless you, and have a super Saturday!!!

Another Good Day

It has been a good day so far. I didn't get up til late so I am trying to play catch up. We are having grilled veggies and steamed green beans for supper and I don't have them ready like I usually do. So I have more prep time to do tonight.
I did beat My Food Demon last night but it was way too close. I should do better today.
I got all my exercises done.I have been doing more since I got my new zookinesis tape. I do all of it plus my others so I am doing over an hour every day. Plus I do light weights 3 times a week.
I am so convinced of the health benefits of zookinesis I just joined another team just so I could pass on the info on it. But I have always believed that many oriental forms of exercise are great. I love tai chi and this is a form of it. I think I posted this before but in case I didn't here is link to Bob Kleins web site.

Bill is using his total gym every night but only for 10 minutes. Really not fair.He works out for 10 minutes and gives up regular soda and loses. Men are so lucky when it comes to weight loss. Oh well. It is what it is.
I did make an appointment for yearly with gynecologist. I am a little late but getting my ICD changed out caused me to get behind. I mainly need the mammogram as I did have to get a 2nd opinion last year. They don't do the pap smears every year now for older women.Especially if there has never been a problem. But I have always kept up with yearlys even when I was as poor as you can be. It does save lives. There is no reason not to get the checks.If you have to go to a free clinic you go.
Ok My green beans and other veggies are waiting for me to get them ready to cook.
Hope you are all doing good today. Sorry to tell you but it is a beautiful sunny day here.More like Florida.

I had a good day yesterday when it came to the eating department too.

We were in town and I was hungry and SO TEMPTED to grab some unhealthy fast food. But I won, I just keep on driving, telling myself I'd not give in. So when I got home I had a cup of blueberries before I went to bed.

I got to bed really late and then was wide awake for another hour or so because my brain would not shut down. I just keep thinking about getting this weight off, what I need to do, and that my jeans felt a little tight around the tummy. Just all kinds of weight loss things went through my head. Next thing I know it was time to get up.

    It was a great day for a drive yesterday and when we got to Wichita, it was in the upper 50's. I need the warmth and sunshine.

Glad you are doing good and Yes, it is easier for men to loose weight.

    My husband is sorta like Bill, he can skip a meal and seems to lose weight.. dangit!! Me, I have to count every blessed morsel..LOL..

I am really terrible about going to the doctor much less the gynecologist. I only go if I am about to die, so probably have no telling what wrong with me.. I think the dread of it comes from me having been in the hospital so much when I was younger.

I hope you enjoy the new team that you joined..They will enjoy your experience with zookinesis exercises.. You'll be great motivation to them also..

Glad you had a good day.. I'm way late, had to go buy groceries, and some other things to do before I could get here..Now I'm really late cause I had to finish my treadmill miles.. seems like all I get done is walk and count calories..YUCK, no rest for the weary!!

    I'm horrible about going to the Gynie. ICK! Now I don't have a choice. My doctor is really good about making you get physicals and pap smears if they see you haven't had one in a year or so. If one of my kids are sick, need shots, or need a physical I make sure they get it done.

Men do lose weight much faster than women. It's true that they can stop drinking soda and lose weight just by doing that small thing. It worked for my husband and didn't work for me. It IS unfair!!!

It was sunny here too but not as warm. It was a little warmer today than it has been. I keep telling myself in 2 more months Spring should be here.

    We're having "Florida sunshine" today in Virginia, too! And it got all the way up to 46 degrees which is just right. It helps melt the snow but not too quickly. I'm not in a flood area, but there are plenty of them around, especially the Rappahannock River. My yard is still snow-covered, but I'm hoping to see the grass again by next week!

    Actually it is sunny in Chicagoland today. And 38 which is cold for you but balmy for us! It drops back down tomorrow and snow on Saturday but today it is nice. Way to go on the food demon!
