Wintry Day in Florida

Thursday, February 11, 2010

It has been a dark and gloomy cold day here in what should be the sunshine state. No sun here. Needless to say my mood is not good. I even warned Bill to keep his distance. His response was to clean all the kitchen mess up for me. And he is now doing laundry. He is so good to me.

I did beat my food demon but it was too close. I am way under right now so I should have plenty of room to snack later.

My new zookinesis tapes came. I skimmed thru them. I really like the one for weight loss.I will try it out tomorrow.I am not too impressed with second one as it has a lot of moves I don't think I can do. The best part of 2nd one is that one of his cats steals the show.Rubbing on his legs and licking his leg and toes. Towards the end the cat jumps up in his lap doing what cats do while he is doing the moods. So cute. A couple of time you see another cat stroll behind him.In first tape a third cat nuzzles him several times. He actually cracks a smile several times.

We had turkey burgers and grilled or baked fresh veggies for supper. I just cooked the burgers in my toaster oven as I didn't want to fool with my electric grill. Had some small bags of veggies left over to add to my nightly soup.

We are going to see Wicked this Sunday. I am looking forward to it. Angel and Brianna went last weekend and they had a great time. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Since it is Valentines day we will eat out for supper.

Nothing new. This chilly weather is making my knees and other joints hurt. Thank goodness for Advil.
Ok Folks thats it for me. Hope you are staying warm as it looks like we are all getting cold weather.

Well as for being cold outside it has been cold here since November I live in Northern Lower Michigan and it will not warm up until at least April/May. I do not go outside to walk in the winter so this year I have cleaned my basement and my husband measured a path for me and if I walk around it 96 times it is a mile I do that every day (well almost every day) and it takes me 15 minutes to walk it and it is warm down there so I don't freeze when I walk. I also do crunches, side twist, and lunges. Are you in Northern Florida or Southern Florida? My in laws live around Gainesville Fl.

I have my toaster oven in my pantry/closet right now. I never would've thought to use it for burgers. My husband is thinking of getting the George Foreman grill.

Have fun with Bill on Sunday at Wicked!! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Sunday is mother/daughter day at my house. The boys are going to Monster Jam. I'm a believer that Valentine's Day is a Hallmark holiday. My hubby better show and tell me he loves me all throughout the year, not just one day out of the year. I have to say he does a great job.

Oooh. You are seeing my favorite muscial on Valentine's Day. We are seeing it again on Feb 20. If you like it, maybe you'd like to join my "Wicked Musical Lover's" Team. It's a fun bunch!!

I too am tired of the gloom. It feel like December in Minnesota here today!

You did better than I did, Eleni! I was too whooped to blog last night!

I know what you mean about the joint pain and stiffness - and this cold is kicking my butt, but you know, growing older just ain't for sissies, ennit?

We got rain and gloom here today, but I'm adding my own sunshine to the mix. I hope your day is a good one, too.

It doesn't get out of the 20's for the next nine days here in good old Illinois. But, the 27th I am going to Reno. It usually snows every year I am there though they tell me that is unusual for the end of February. I go every 3rd year with a group that bowls.

It's a bad day in Alabama too. Today I am sitting around waiting for snow. The first time in about 10 years. We are under a winter storm warning and the schools are closed, the bridges are closed, our Valentine party at the center was canceled and guess what -- it's only raining out there.

I hope you have a great day out -- our last movie was a couple of years ago. Please tell us about the movie when you get back.

It sounds like you have an awesome weekend planned! Have a great time. I won't tell you what my weekend is going to consist of, cuz it's gross. But I promise, you are having a better time!

That tape with all the cats sounds cute! I love my kitties! Dinner sounded good too! I need to start making soups like you do. Now that I found out I have high blood pressure, I can't eat the canned soups like I did for all the sodium.

Have a good time seeing "Wicked"! I love that one slow song - I bet it will be amazing in person!

Have a good weekend, and stay warm. We are having a cool front move through with wet weather and I am like you my bones hurt when it gets wet and stays wet for more than a day or so.
I just finished a Tae Bo workout, man it burned 147 calories in 15 minutes, I should do that one more often, but it is intense and I can only do 15 minutes so far, I am going to try for twenty the next time I do it.
I lost another pound, I am trying to find the level and stay in the middle of the road so I won't gain or lose so it is harder than I thought it would be to maintain.
I will get it figured out though. Cuddle up and stay warm. Sandy emoticon

Did I tell you I am ready for spring? lol It is still snowing, supposed to quit about midnight! We got about 5 or6 inches, depending on who you talk to. In Wichita Falls they are supposed to have gotten 15 inches! That is 11 miles from here. It has been so pretty, and not really cold, about 30 to 32 degrees.
Your supper sounds good. We had left over roast. I chopped up the potatoes and fried them for Ted. I just had some of the roast and fresh veggies.

Glad I Live In Florida

It is cold here for us. It is 46 deg now and suppose to drop to freezing in surrounding counties. But I am watching the news where they are showing all the snow and blizzards out there.Wow.It is nasty. I hope all of you are safe and warm. So much snow everywhere.
The Food Demon whooped me last night. But today is mine.So far.
Not much going on. I did the two crock pots again and that works well. I can put stuff in mine that Bill doesn't like and I know exactly how many calories for sure. One of my crock pots has 3 different sizes so I use it with the smallest bowl and then reg size for Bill. Actually I made more in his as Angel and Brianna ate with him..There was some meat and gravy left over in his and I put it in freezer bag right away so I wouldn't be tempted. It is in freezer to use later.
Ok I will say good night. Have a good night and a great day tomorrow.

It's suppose to be below freezing here tonight. Our yards look like ponds since we've had so much rain, but I will not complain for I know we'll be begging for rain come hot summer time.

The crock pot meal sounds good, and I know you'll be glad you stored the leftovers for another time.. Out of sight, out of mind. We had bbq chicken, deviled eggs, and a bok-choy cabbage.. I had never tried that before. It was ok, but I like the regular cabbage better.. More taste, or maybe it was because I didn't really know how to fix the bok-choy other than to steam it..

Hope you stay warm, and enjoy your evening Ladybug. I like your little cartoon cat.. that's a cute one!!

Thank you for the good wishes to those of us in blizzard conditions. On the bright side, we were on the southernmost end of the blizzard (about 55 miles south of Washington, DC.). It ended early (noon), and we only got about 8" of snow, but it is deep out there from leftover snow piled as high as the roadside mailbox. I'm very happy that we are predicted to have four sunny days in a row with temps in the high 30's. That will feel wonderful to us!!! I have been very busy knitting to cope with my weather-related grumpiness. I think I will venture outside for a walk tomorrow if it isn't windy. (It was VERY windy today with sustained gusts up to 40 mph.) emoticon

Two people I know have escaped this weather to Florida only to have chilly weather there as well. I can handle the cold, it's the snow I hate. It would be nice to be able to go outside year round and not freeze my butt off. If I could afford to move I would in a heartbeat. Snow just isn't for me anymore.

I love crockpot cooking. The last few times I've used it though I was hungry all day because it smelled so good.

A Sunny Day

Monday, February 08, 2010

Ok We will get the bad news out of the way first. I overate yesterday so My Food Demon won. But I am not down about it as in the last 8 days I won 6 of them. I have no doubt I will win today.

Now on to better things. Bill was in a game pool at work.He also put me in it. HeHe I won $350. He is keeping $50 but the $300 is going into my account to spend on Amazon whenever I buy there. I buy books and odds and ends there. So not bad for someone who is not into sports. I didn't even watch the game.

As most of you know I do try to find new fruits etc to try. I found one last week called

Cherimoya - The delicious fruit from the Incas often called the "love fruit" because of its heart-like shape. The cherimoya is called "the tree of icecream" and the fruits taste like a blend of pineapple, mango and strawberry flavors. Cherimoyas are ripe within two to three days at room temperature. You should eat ripe fruits immediately. Ripe fruits are black-green and give to slight pressure, like an avocado or peach. Cherimoyas are very vulnarable and are exported on a small scale. The cherimoya season is from October to May in California. Ripe fruits are black-green and taste like strawberries with cream. They are very vulnarable and exported on a small scale.
It's a heart-like fruit whith a green skin. It's skin feels leather-like and the white flesh contains black pits.
Are originally from South America.
Contain a lot of dextrosis.
Ripe within 2 two to three days at room temperature. Eat ripe fruits immediately.
Fist sized.

Well Mine must not be ripe as it was hard when I cut it open and a tiny piece tasted more woody than anything else. I may get another and leave it out like it says and try to get it ripe.I left this on counter but don't think it will ripen once cut.

The sun is shining and it is up to 60 on back patio in the shade which means it is warmer in sun. It was 40 deg when I went to bed last night.

And the birds are singing up a storm outside.

Hope you are having a good day. I hope my new tapes come soon.

Way to go in winning the football pool. I have the worst luck so I never join in on those things. For Christmas my husband buys me scratch tickets and I never win. I guess it's a good thing otherwise it could be a horrible addiction.

Interesting looking fruit. I never heard of it. We never have anything new and exciting.

60's and sun sounds wonderful! The snow is supposed to start falling tonight. It's going to snow all day tomorrow and get windy. Because of the wind they're saying tomorrow afternoon and night will have blizzard conditions. It's going to be fun driving! As of right now I'm planning on going into work for a bit. If it gets really nasty I'll try to convince my manager to let me leave. Usually once I'm there it's not so easy to leave.

You lucky girl!! I've never won anything but a simple door prize and that turned out to be a figurine I have to dust all the time..hahaha.. I don't like football, so I never watch, and nope I'm not a Dallas Cowboy fan even though I'm not to far from Dallas..

That fruit does not look that appealing, but like you say, maybe if it was more ripe..I like veggies a lot, but bananas peaches and cantaloupe is about the extent of my fruit eating, unless it's an apple pie, or a cherry pie.. now of course those two are totally off limits..To much sugar and the crust alone would be a killer on the calories for the day.

It's still raining here. rain rain go away, come again on a very hot day!!!

Have blackeye peas cooking for supper.. I saved enough calories to have that and a piece of cornbread for supper tonight..

You'll pull out ahead of that Night demons grasp, and leave his lousy behind eatin' your dust!! emoticon

Sounds yummy when ripe. I'd give it another try, too, if I were you. I'm always glad to hear you are having sunny, warm weather. It makes me think it will arrive here soon. Ha! (We are supposed to get another doozy of a snow storm tomorrow, though, from the coast.) Blow some of that warm weather this way, please!!! By the way, I don't ever plan to move any farther south because I have such a low tolerance for the Virginia summer heat and humidity. Hmmmm . . . maybe enduring these very unusual winter storms will change my perspective on summer . . . at last!

Florida is Not Warm Today

Sunday, February 07, 2010

Ok Us wimpy people are cool today. It is 50 degrees outside but wind makes it feel much cooler. I was amused at grocery store by what people had on.Some were bundled up big time. Some were like me who just threw on a flannel shirt to block the wind. And some real dare devils just had on shorts and t-shirts. I know this would be a heat wave for those of you up north but it is cold for us. I will admit I am a wimp and I do not like being cold.

I did good again
25 11
I am slowly increasing the spread.

Bill wanted to have regular burgers tonight so I guess we will. I haven't had a burger in a while. He did get lean beef. He asked what was I getting for something special during the game that he will be watching. I wasn't planning on getting anything but he put the bug in my ear. I am so weak willed. I found some baked scoops that can be used with the salsa I have. I did get a small bag of pork rinds that I have been wanting for a few weeks. I have been reading and hearing as I am sure some of you have about the calorie counts not being correct on some things. The outside of bag said 2 1/2 servings and a serving was 1/2 oz. I measure the 1/2 oz's out and it had 3 servings. So the whole bag was suppose to be 200 cal but was really 240 cal. I put 1/2 oz in baggies and just had the one and put the others up for another time. Also put them out of sight too. I am going to measure out the baked scoops too.
I really get very tired of measuring all the time but it has to be done.
Here is link to my photo on flickr.I put pictures Bill took yesterday at Landons parties. It is one that says Landons 1st birthday. You will see one that has 5 women and Landon. The woman in the middle standing is Bill's 1st wife Elaine.

I like the ones with Bill holding him.He does seem to have Grandpa's eyes. It was very windy and cool so I am glad I decided to stay here.

Well The groceries are calling my name. They are sitting in kitchen. I would rather be taking a nap.
Hope you are enjoying your day.

I am so glad you are doing well. Yes, it is cold here today and we are expecting more snow tonight. We had pizza for the superbowl and I ate too much and then fell asleep. Missed some? oh well!!
That Landon is too cute. I finally got to see my granddaughters again after 6 weeks and their mother (my dd) called both me and my son in law and cussed us out for him bringing them here. I keep praying for her. What else can we do?

    Hi, Eleni,

You have a beautiful family! And life would be really dull if we could never have a few pork rinds once in a while! You coped with them extemely well!

BTW - Thank you for the "Woo Hoo's"! You definitely make a cold day in Florida a nice place to be!

We're supposed to get up to 14 inches of snow starting Monday evening thru Tuesday night. I hope they're wrong. My friend is in Orlando this week and expected warm weather. I guess it's still warmer than here.

I was a bad wife and didn't get any snacks for the SuperBowl. We're not really watching it though. If the Packers aren't in it my husband only 1/2 pays attention. We have enough junk food in the house as it is. If my husband wants something to eat he can dig in the cabinets and find something.

Landon and Bill both have pretty eyes. I love how big Landon's are. Jason has blue eyes as well. Alex had really pretty blue eyes when he was younger and now he has my mom's eyes. They're more of a blue/gray.

25 - 11 is still a winning score!

I'm not surprised at the bundled-up folks anymore. My elder son went on a mission trip to Peru last summer (their winter). The average low there in the winter is only 65 degrees. When it gets that cold, the children are wearing insulated coats with faux-fur-trimmed hoods. Imagine that! I guess the dampnesss is hard on them. Even though it is a desert and they never get rain, meldew is a problem because of the sea spray in the air (Pacific Ocean). I'm with you . . . a flannel shirt is plenty when it is chilly and breezy.

Loved the pictures of your family. That is one cute boy!!!
Hope you enjoy the game tonight. And the snacks...try f/f cream cheese mixed with Pace's chunky salsa for dip with baked dippers! MMMM good!
Putting up groceries is my least favorite thing to do...but it is a necessary fact of life. If you buy, you must put away!
Love ya emoticon Think spring!

I love to people watch when I have time, which when I'm shopping I don't want to think about anything but getting the groceries and getting home.. LOL.. I saw the same scene yesterday as we were shopping for the new tv.. saw one guy that had a ponytail that was fashioned on the side of his head around by his ear.. I almost busted out laughing, not because he had a ponytail, but because he didn't have any hair on the rest of his head.. I have no clue what the hairstyle was all about but he appeared to be lost or hunting someone..LOL or perhaps hiding from someone.. LOL

I'm like you, I get tired of measuring everything too, but I had rather do that than to continue to overeat and never get this weight down.. I will never let myself believe that I can eyeball my food and judge what it weighs or has in calories.. No place that I've read suggest that you can do that and be accurate in your caloric the scale and I have become best of buddies.. :)

I'll have to start watching the portion sizes in the bags, too. I didn't know about that, so thanks for informing me, cause I just took their word for how many portions was inside..

The pictures of Landon are so sweet, love those big blue eyes he has..Great pictures of your sweetie and the kids..

So glad you are several steps ahead of that ornery demon.. I knew it, yup

Yes, I agree that 50 would be a heat wave. Our high here today was 40 and very grateful for that considering what we have had.

We have more snow on the way tomorrow but a lot of what we got on Friday has melted.

Take care and keep up the good work.

I enjoyed the photos and I do agree, Landon does look a lot like his Grandpa.

Hugs, Sunny

Way to go on measuring things. That is great. In time you won't need to measure everything because you will know just by the amount that is there how much it is.

As far as the weather. I live up north and yes 50 would be a heat wave right now, but i go outside in shorts and a t-shirt when its in the 30's, lol.

Hope ya have a great day.
