Very Windy Day

Saturday, February 06, 2010

The sun was shining for a short time but now it is getting cloudy.Very windy.
Bill just called from Orlando. He is there for Landon's blessing and 1st birthday.I decided it was just too much for me to do in one day. He will be surrounded by grandmothers without me there. Anyway. Bill said the wind is terrible over there.

I am starting to widen the spread between myself and My Food Demon. I need to give him a good name. Any suggestions. I like offbeat names
24 11

And I had a 4.5# loss. I know some of it is fluid but have no way of knowing how much. I have been fluctuating between 279 and 285 for months now. I am looking forward to next week and being below that 279. I really want to hit 275 or less this month.
I had Bill take a picture of me with the Spark book at Books a Million and lets just say he is not the photographer in the family. It is way to blurry to use. But that is second place I have seen it on sale so far. I have finished reading mine. The last part wasn't real interesting to me but first 80% was.I think I may read it again.

I got all my exercising out of the way. I may make another pot of soup this afternoon. Or I may kick back and watch TV and read. I am looking forward to my new DVDs coming.

Ok Enjoy your weekend. Oh I see the sun peeking out again.

You are doing great, and even if all that weight loss is fluid loss, that is FANTASTIC!!! After all, it is the excess fluid that is bad around your heart. I'm always so happy to read about your progress, even when it is "what's done is done." You have a way about blogging that is just so down-to-earth and comforting. Maybe it is because I can relate to you and your struggles.

We have 15" of snow on the patio table on the deck (and everywhere else except where my sons shoveled today). They were calling for 20-30", so I'm feeling very thankful that this is all we got. This is one of the absolutely snowiest winters (top 10) of all time in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan area. (We live 55 miles south of Washington, DC.) I have been cooking, cleaning up after it, and making some preparations just in case we lose power. Have plenty of coffee brewed to be reheated on top of the wood stove in the basement (unfinished so we don't use it as living space). Got the sleeping bags upstairs so they can warm up to room temp. just in case the power fails. Hubby and I can cuddle, but sons need that way to stay warm individually. Fixed a huge crock pot of soup (chicken and vegetables) including jalapeno peppers for some zippiness in this cold weather. Stay warm and dry! emoticon

Enjoy your day, sometimes I like having the house to myself. Just me and no TV noise to hear, seems when Hubby walks in the door the noise starts. I like a nice quiet house, I don't even turn the TV on when he is away, except to pop in an exercise DVD. Have a name for consideration---MUNCHER CRUNCHER---That is what we call the munchies around here. Hubby says that the FOOD DEMON is the right name to call him. Sandy

I was at Sam's Club today and saw "The Spark" there. That's the first place I've seen it but I haven't been looking.

My friend should be in Floriday by now. She left this morning for a week vacation. I don't know where she was going though. I guess it's better than here. It's really cold and we're supposed to get snow Monday - Wednesday. At least it won't be as bad as Washington DC. Crazy weather!!

I hope Bill drives carefully!

A very Rainy Day

Friday, February 05, 2010

No sunshine today. We put off our regular grocery shopping til Sunday or maybe late Saturday. Bill did run in and get me some tomatoes and cucumbers and stuff to make Sunny's mushroom soup. I will probably stay with the one I use but I am going to make hers at least once. In fact I am making it for supper.
We did eat out for lunch and the place that was on our way was not what I would have wanted for lunch. It was a pizza place that has a lunch smorgasbord. I was so good for me but it wasn't easy. I had 2 pieces of pizza and a small salad. I passed on the pasta and the chicken wings and the cheese sticks. Passing on the chicken wings was the hardest. I am going to count it as 600 cal. I think that is close.

We went to Book a Million to look for a book for Landon's blessing. I found 4 really good ones. Two were little ones. They were perfect for a little one.
I also got myself a book that looked good . Saving CeeCee Honeycut by Beth Hoffman.
I also just looked at The Angel's Game by Carlos Zufon. I will get it on Amazon.New it was $26 and I already looked and I can get a good used one for $14 total on Amazon. I have bought several good used books on Amazon and they have been in great shape.
I had a gift certificate for Books a Million was only reason I bought the one book.

Here is a great magazine I picked up too. Compares foods to show healthiest ones.Like cereal showed Cherrios as best for fat and sugar. This is first issue.I have just glanced thru it but it is interesting

I am happy to say I did beat My Food Demon again. I know I have done good but don't see it on scale yet.
23 11
Well nothing much going on. I did wear my red shirt out today. Oh And I did get my exercises done before I left house.
Well I am ready for this rain to stop and hope the sun is shining tomorrow.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

We went grocery shopping when I got home from work. There's no way I'm going tomorrow with all the Superbowl parties going on. The store was more crowded tonight than usual and I think that may be why. It's done. I do have to go to Sam's Club but we plan on going right away in the morning.

Great job on passing up the pasta and cheese sticks. I know that's hard. I was bad the last 2 days. I've been so good about not eating out all the time at work. Yesterday they went for Chinese and I got sweet & sour chicken. It was delicious! I ate almost all of it and could only eat a little of my dinner last night. Today Jason met me for lunch and brought me mongolian beef, fried rice, and crab rangoon. It was heaven!!! I still haven't eaten dinner. I do have to say I didn't snack at all the last 2 days!!

LOL..oh no no, I have a small tv in my computer room where my treadmill is located, so hubby came back to watch a few programs with me, but I don't even turn on the tv when my husband isn't home. I'm not much of a tv person. I watch a few programs with him like biggest loser on Tuesday night, but most of the time I'm either on the computer or playing my piano, walkin' on the treadmill and cleaning house or doing odds and ends around the house..

Hubby will be proud to have a new tv so he can go back in the living room to his recliner for the programs he likes to watch at night after he gets settled in..

Don't know what we're having for dinner tonight..I'm burnt out on just about everything that is in the kitchen cupboards, and freezer too. Maybe a Sub sandwich tonight.. I still have enough calories for that, I think.. will have to recheck.. Soup sounds good too..

Finally some sunshine today.. Saw the little birds taking a bath in a hole of water.. Hubby and I watched them splashing like crazy.. was such a cute sight to see. 3 of them taking a spring bath..LOL.. God's creatures are adorable at times..

The last book I bought was the 'Spark', and still haven't finished reading it.. I read a chapter in the Bible every morning, and I like books by Nora Roberts. I don't read as much as I use to, but when the notion strikes I can't put a book down until I'm finished with it..

Well the darn TV went out Tuesday night, so now we have to go tomorrow and get a new one.. Money money money. It's always something.. LOL..

Another Nice Day

Thursday, February 04, 2010

The sun is in and out today.Still better than dark and dreary.

22

11

I beat him again and by a good margin. In the last 4 days I won 3 out of the 4 and it was not at my top range.

I got my exercises done and did more today as I wasn't as tired.

I decided to do a crock pot meal for supper .Since I have 2 crock pots I decided to do mine separate from Bills. That way I can better count the calories and put stuff in mine that I like and he doesn't. In doing so I did a little experiment on the beef.I was very surprised. I normally weigh measure and mark all my meat when I bring it home in single serving sizes. Except for things like a roast as I usually cook it whole in crock pot. Well since I was doing my own crock pot I weighed meat before I put it in and then checked it again after it had been cooking for awhile. There was over 200 cal diff. So I am not sure which number to use. I normally count calories before stuff is cooked but sometimes I do it after if it is a lot of stuff being cooked together. How do you guys do it when you use crock pot.

Nothing new going on. I did talk to Terri/CANBEDONE/Joyful Hawk on the phone today and that was nice. She is dealing with an ill mother and under a lot of stress but hanging in there.
Ok Ihope you are all having a good day. If not don't let it get you down. We are all going to have bad days but there will be good ones to follow.

It had been a dreary day here today , too! I'm so ready for spring. Have I mentioned that before? lol
I usually weigh after food is cooked. Don't really know the correct way.
I did a potato ( Breakfast) casserole to take to a meeting tonight. I'm not much of a potato eater, but everyone enjoyed it and wanted to recipe. It was low cal. 183 calories per serving. I got it from the nutritionist at the hosp. in WF. I will post it on my blog if anyone is interested.
Hope you have a sunny day tomorrow. Hang in there with the demon tonight...send him on his way if he comes to visit.

I usually calculate my food after it is cooked. If you do it before though you could trick yourself if you don't tell yourself that is what you are doing and then you would stay within your calories or have a fudge factor. Not actually fudge you can eat. emoticon

Way to go! You got the food demon on the run for sure! As for measuring meats, I measure before if I'm mixing cut slices or cubes of meat that I'm adding to a stirfry or stew; after for servings of roasts, grilled or braised meats or pot roasted meats.

Wahoo! You are on a roll! Anyway, about calorie counting with the meat . . . since your meat was cooked in the crockpot with other ingredients, I would only use the pre-cooked calories if you eat every iota of juice, visible fat, and all other ingredients in that pot. If you remove visible fat (e.g. fat that rises to the top when you pour the drippings or broth into a measuring cup), then I would weigh or measure the removed fat and subtract those calories from your pre-cooked calories. Most oils are 120 calories per tablespoon, I think. With broiled or grilled meats, I only use the calories for the cooked weight. I don't know if I'm getting absolute exact calorie counts or not, but I know I am very, very close.

Hi Ladybug, I'm so glad you beat the sap out of that old food devil last night.. It's always so nice to wake up knowing that we didn't give in the night before.. emoticon emoticon emoticon

The crock pot meals sounds like it will be wonderful..When I cook any kind of meat or veggies for that matter, I weigh it AFTER it's done. I'm certainly not going to eat it raw, so that weigh is only for when it's raw in the package.. When you go to get a hamburger, for instance, or a steak in a resturant, I assume that their nutritional facts on their menu is for when it's cooked and brought to your table, so I assume it's the same for home cooked meals. That's how I do it.. emoticon

It's always good to get to talk to a friend on the phone.. I'm glad you are having a good day.. It's rained all day long here..

Another New Day

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Well today was another of many new days. I did so good beating My Food Demon until late at night. Then he forced buttered ritz crackers down my throat.Ok Ok I willingly shoved buttered crackers down my throat. But that is the great thing about a new day.It is new. A chance to do better than the old day. Can't undo what I did but I have a chance to not repeat it today.

I have been tired today but I still did my exercises. I only did a total of about 30 minutes. But I am happy with that.My goal is to do 10 minutes every day and I can do that. And talking about exercises

Someone asked me about zookinesis so I am putting a link to his web site.Another example of how things happen for a reason. When I went to site to get link I decided to look around.I found another DVD that I had not seen before. Another seated one but for weight loss. Health and Fitness: Zookinesis: Chair Exercises for Weight Reduction 19.95 no handling charges
Of course I ordered it.I am looking forward to getting it. I will let you know how I like it. I love the two I have already for seniors and use one or the other every day
BOB KLEINís Web site

www.movementsofmagic.com/

PS Went back and ordered another one
Chair Exercises for Flexibility and Strength

It is a beautiful day today. The sun is shining and I love that. I had planned to go sit outside but didn't. Not too late.Maybe I will after I finish this.
And I think I am finished for the day.Very quiet day. I am not up to cooking so I am going to have Bill pick up some chili from Wendy's and I will add a salad here. The calories will be good but it does have a lot of salt. Who knows.I may change my mind again before he checks in before he heads home.

Hope you are having a good day.

Wendy's chili is tasty. I made chili the other day so I brought some in for lunch today. It wasn't what I wanted but I ate it anyway. For dinner I'm eating potatoes and onions - SURPRISE SURPRISE. It's difficult to eat when so many things make me nauseous.

You love those Ritz! Next time you go shopping you need to skip that aisle! emoticon

Another Good Day

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

21 10
I did great again yesterday, And today is looking good also. Does feel good to beat his butt more consistently.

I got up way too early this morning.Woke up and body parts were hurting so I got up. Did get my exercising done. Last month I only missed one day and my goal is to not miss any day this month.

The guy came today and fixed our sprinkler system. We had water but it wasn't going to the zones. He replaces the valves under ground so we can now water when we need to.I have to find out what day is our watering day. Bill wants to put real grass in out front. Before sprinklers quit working we had green weeds. It should water some of my plants too. During the summer that will help.

I don't eat canned soup too often but I do keep plenty on hand just in case. I really like cream of mushroom soup but because of salt and calories I don't eat it to often.I could eat it straight out of the can almost. But I was wanting some so bad today. So I made up a version that was more filling as we had a every man for himself supper. I chopped up a small potato and some onion and cooked it in a can of chicken broth. Then I added some chopped up frozen brocolli and a small can of mushrooms.Simmered it for a few minutes and then added 1/2 cup of milk with a teaspoon of butter. Had a salad with it. It was good soup.My two favorite soups in one. Cream of mushroom and potato. Hopefully that will take care of my craving. I still have all kinds of calories left for later.

It was raining all morning but by late afternoon the sun was shining some.I think we are in for more rain tomorrow. Hopefully it will be nice for Landon's blessing and birthday on Saturday. Oh I do have a question. When baby's etc are christened or baptized are people suppose to give a gift. I am Baptist and we don't baptize young ones. We do not spend a lot of money on GK's birthday as we have 11. They all get the same which is just $10. But Bill's ex and sil side will all be trying to outdo each other for his first birthday.. I need to know if I need to get something extra for what they are calling a blessing ceremony.

Tonight is biggest loser.I don't have a favorite yet but I do have one I don't like. The one that Jillian can't stand. My favorite part of the show is the last 5 minutes when they show how the person looks that got voted off.

Well I need to get the dvd's set up for later. Hope you are all doing well. And thanks again for being there for me. I couldn't do this without you.

Regarding the gift, I think the others have offered great advice. I wouldn't get into a competition. You and Bill are authentic people and that is what he will grow to love more and more. I have given uncirculated mint coin sets of the year the baby is born. They are usually not too expensive. I think around $10.

Have a great day!

What else can I say! You are doing soooo good!
I don't have any tips on a gift for the baby, however, I have the same situation with my grand kids. Their other GM buys and spends on them, but I told my DD years ago that we had no intention in getting into a competition with her. And I will tell you this...they come here more and they spend more time with us than they do with her. I feel sorry for her as she tries so hard. They call us without being told to! I never talk to them about her, except to ask how she is doing. Always positive.
The soup sounds good and I copied the other recipe. I got your recipes and plan to make the Greek soup soon. I love it, we were introduced to it when we lived in Kifissa, just outside of Athens. I love all Greek food! We don't have a Greek restaurant closer than the Dallas area. Sure wish we did! I may make Stifido (sp) to take to a family who lost their sister this week. It's easy but I will probably cut down on the amount of olive oil that I used to use.
I didn't mean to take up so much space, just got on a roll.
Good night.

I copied Sunny's recipe for mushroom soup. I am getting addicted to everyones success and support. I did great on my calorie goal today. Gonna have to do something about protein though. I am cutting calories, but taking that out also. I hope tomorrow I can eat some cracked walnuts. emoticon

You're soup sounds very good. I'm glad you are having some really good days! Keep up the good work.
As far as the blessing gift. We usually do give a gift. Something like a child's small cross for the wall or a Christian children's book or child's bible are good gifts to give. Hope that helps. Have a great time this weekend - sounds like you'll be busy.

I am glad you had a good day. I would have to say I don't care for mushrooms, I guess because we picked and ate them as kids so much got burned out on them. I do like a good homemade Cream of Chicken soup though.
I don't watch much TV so have not seen any of the Biggest Loser shows. Shame on me. Stay feeling good my friend. Sandy

Wow you are on a roll with the exercising.. Good for you, I'm so PROUD for you and PROUD of you.. You never give up, and I love that about you. emoticon

It would be so nice to look out at your front lawn and see pretty green grass, and not weeds.. The only thing my husband doesn't like is having to mow ours. We have 2 1/2 acres that has to be mowed, and in the summer when we get rain it grows fast. (I think he secretly likes riding on his lawnmower) even though he grumps about how fast it grows..LOL

That soup sounds delicious. I couldn't eat the mushroom soup straight out of the can though. I'd have to water it down a little with some low fat milk and make it consistency of gravy, then make what we call 'sh*t on a shingle'.

I have no idea about the christening gift since I am Baptist also. I say do what seems right to you and Bill and not worry about the other side and what they give. I'm sure your children know your hearts, and that your love is bigger and better than any extra gift.

I agree with you on Biggest Loser. I don't have a favorite this year, but I really can't see that woman in red winning since she has played the game more than wanting to lose weight.

Well it's almost time for it, so gotta go.. Keep on with your winning streak.. emoticon emoticon

I know who you are talking about on the biggest looser and I don't care for her either. She was playing the game big time and then started whining when Julian confronted her about blowing the weigh in. Give me a break.

I love Cream of Mushroom soup but don't usually eat it out of a can. It is one of my "indulgences". Here is a great almost no fat (less than 1 gram of saturated fats) and only 114 calories per serving.

Cream of Mushroom Soup

Makes 4 servings

Awesome Creamy Nearly Non-fat Mushroom Soup!

Ingredients
3 cups mushrooms
1 tbsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic
1 tbsp flour
1 1/2 cups vegetable broth
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 cup fat free sour cream
1 egg white
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp pepper

Directions
Add olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper and mushrooms in saucepan and saute on med-high heat for about 5 minutes. Add flour and stir. Add veg broth and bring to boil. In a separate bowl, beat together the sour cream, milk, and egg white. Add to the broth and keep on low heat for 10 minutes or more.

Hope you try it some day. I like to mix the mushrooms - button, baby bella and shiitake.

It is very good.

Good luck on your battle with the food demon tomorrow. Great job on getting your exercise in today. Keep smiling my friend, you are doing it.

Hugs, Sunny

MMM, I'm all about the potatoes right now! Potatoes in soup is yummy! I don't like mushrooms but I will occasionally use cream of mushroom soup in a recipe.

I haven't watched The Biggest Loser yet. I have them DVR'd but when the weekend comes I totally forget to watch them. I have 5 episodes or so to watch.

I can't really help you with the baptism gift thing. Jason went to his nephews baptism last year and he doesn't think he gave him any money but he doesn't remember. Jason said he knows that others gave money.

Keep up the momentum and kick the Food Demon where it counts!!!
