We had a HUGE hawk circling our yard yesterday and flying low so I grabbed my 3 1/2 lb Chihuahua and put her in the house . . . she would look like a white rabbit to a hawk in the air!

  Hi Eleni..........
I just can't get over how wonderful Big Momma looks. I am not surprised, but still in awe at how well you do with plants. We had a day with lower temps and humidity today and it was wonderful!!!!! This beautiful day is to be followed by another tomorrow and then it's back to the 90s and high humidity. I plan to be outside as much as possible while it lasts.
Abigail looks like she is listening intently to whatever her dog friend is telling her. Such a cutie!!!
I hope that tomorrow is a better day for you.

Bill helped me defrost my small extra freezer. It is a pain in the butt but it is so good to have. I told Bill to look and see if they make a small one that is self defrosting.
My eating is not too good. I haven't given up but just struggling a lot.
We are watching the movie The Courageous. a tear jerker that I normally don't watch. This one reminds me too much of what i went thru when I lost my son many years ago.
Today has been a beautiful day. Bill got himself a weed whacker and has been playing with his new toy. I won't let him get a lawn mower

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. Hugs. I think you should let the man get a lawnmower. Mine ignores ours. Ahem.

I have a push lawn mower (you push and the blades turn) and instead of a weed whacker I have an Austrian scythe. Everything up here is dead and brown though, so I don't get to play with my toys very much.
I never watch tear jerkers, or scary movies.

  Hi Eleni.......
So you won't let Bill get a lawn mower, eh????? Well, I wish that I wouldn't have let Ken get a rototiller. We started out with 2 gardens when we moved here and now we have 15. He loves to dig up the areas with the rototiller, loves to put the flowers in the space, but leaves when the weeds appear. Then.........they are MY gardens. So......nix the rototiller too.......weedwacker is fine unless his aim is bad and he wacks the flowers too. That has happened here........ emoticon

Crappy Crappy Day

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Bill and I had a terrible time sleeping last night. Both were worried about our gand daughter and her mother. Got up early and eating is terrible.
Things are better for GD today and she received her financial aid for school today so she is in a better mood. Her homelife is terrible and nothing we can do.I can't say anything to her mom as she will take it out on her. She knows she can come her or call her GP to come get her at anytime. I am thru asking my daughter anything or commenting on what she is doing. She just lies to me anyway and I am tired of it.
I did have a treat today. It did not stop but had a small hummingbird fly by window. I took some pics of butterfly solar last night. Only blue turned out good. But it changes colors. Kinda like those boxed lights years ago that changed colors.
First is what it looks like in day time.

  Hi Eleni........
I remember my Mom telling me that once you have a child, no matter how old either of you are, you will ALWAYS worry about them. Then they have kids, and we get to worry about our grand-kids. It just NEVER ends!!!!! I am so tired of stress!!!!! Our youngest son has ADHD and was diagnosed at age 8. He is now 35 and his problems are still there........only on a bigger scale. My thoughts are definitely with you as I know how bad it can get. Just take care of yourself.
I LOVE your butterfly. I will have to keep my eye out for one at the garden centers near us.
I hope tomorrow is better for you.

  Hi Eleni.........
I heard from our son today that Elizabeth broke both of the bones in her lower arm. One is a greenstick fracture and the other a complete break. The doctor thought surgery might be needed at first, but on further testing, that was not the case. Thank goodness!!!!! She has a cast that will be on for about a month. Good thing her swimming lessons were in June. The reason that my son and I were both so upset is that the older cousin who was riding along side Elizabeth has hurt her purposely in the past and we strongly suspect that this was NOT an accident.
I hope that your nap was a good one.
Later........

New Visitor to Back Yard

Monday, July 23, 2012

I know it isn't morning but I liked this

As most of you know most of my pictures are taken right here in this chair thru a window. This time of day it is hard to get a clear picture plus it is overcast with dark clouds. It took me a second or two to realize what I was seeing. Almost fell out of chair grabbing camera. Then my batteries went out. He is all puffed up trying to dry off. But long red tail is what made me realize what I was looking at. A very young red tailed hawk. I have an adult one that shows up from time to time but first young one.Very cool.

I took him preening himself as long tail shows good

So that was my excitement for the day. Have spent most of day in bed. Just one of those days. I don't have to cook supper as Bill is bowling tonight and he will get something on his way there.

Your pictures are really neat. All the red tailed hawks I have ever seen are not that close. I've heard them though, screeling as they fly through the trees.

We have a young Blue Jay drinking out of a water dish we left out for the outdoor cats. I think it may be somewhat damaged because it was in the water dish this morning with it's feathers all puffed up. Just now it tried to fly into the window of the office with our Missy cat on the other side. Now exactly the smart move.

  Hi Eleni.......
I have seen many adult Red-Tail Hawks in our back yard, but never a young one. You were lucky.
When I was at the kitchen sink about 6 PM yesterday, I looked out into the field behind us and thought I saw a pretty large buck. I grabbed Ken's binoculars and I was shaking so hard, I couldn't get him into good focus. The reason I was shaking, was that his antlers looked so big that I couldn't believe it. I called Ken in from the garage and he didn't really look too excited, until he focussed. He said it was the biggest buck he has ever seen in our area. I guess he will run the next time I yell BUCK!!! This is just one of the reasons I love living in the country.
Later............P.
