Soup Day

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Just had another short rain storm go thru.
Lucky Bill and Roxy sleeping. I laid down but kept thinking about big pot of soup that need to be bagged so I got up. I ended up with 50 cups of soup which I was hoping to get. I liked the bean soup I made last week but wanted less calories per 2 cup bag. This time I just added 3 cans of beans to my normal veggie and it is more than I usually have in calories but less than the bean. The bean was 132 per bag and this is 108 per bag. I know each bag is not exact 108 but average is so that is what number I will use.

My bee balm pot loves this rain. The other pot should bloom soon.

Bill's ginger is starting to turn red. have no idea why it changes color

My big momma orchid that I split into 3 pots had limbs for orchids coming out all over . The 3rd pot doesn't but it is still looking ok.
Due to bad eating for a couple of days i did not lose my gain. But did release 2#. I will have the rest gone next week and maybe more.
Ok Time to start supper.Hope you had a good weekend

  Hi Eleni........
Now if we lived next door to each other, I could give you some of the homemade chicken noodle soup I made yesterday and you could give me some of your delicious-looking vegetable soup. I LOVE soup........even in the HOT weather we have been having this summer.

Your pot of soup looks delicious! Do you know how many grams of sodium are in each cup? I'm always curious about that, especially with soups.
That's what's so good about making your own is that you can control the sodium amount better.

Another New Day

Saturday, July 21, 2012

My eating last night was the worse in a long time. Threw out rest of what I was stuffing myself on. Back on track for now. I wish this wasn't so hard. I will still lose some of what I gained but not sure how bad last night will hurt me. it had a lot of salt in it.
I always have fresh lemons so decided to make a bottle of lemonade for lunch. It was good. I do it all the time when we go out.
Bill is getting groceries today. Always interesting to see what he brings home.
here is old big bulky Tv and new one.New one was only $300. We needed a shelf to put TV on. Check out what Bill used to hold up shelf. This way the dvd is out where we can keep door underneath closed.

new rose bloom.Picture of two show one from the other day on right

If your weight gain is due to salt a few days of drinking all your water should take care of it. You can't help getting to much salt when you eat out. At home I try to keep processed foods to a minimum. Good Luck emoticon

  Hi Eleni........
Isn't it amazing how thin the new computer screens and TV screens are now. They are so much easier to place and take care of.
I have been putting the juice of one lemon in 2 cups of water and drinking it at least once a day and sometimes twice. It is supposed to be good for the liver and a friend of mine who is into holistic medicine said that lemons are good for all of our organs.
Elizabeth leaves for Minnesota tomorrow for 2 weeks.........Ken and I are going to go into withdrawal!!!!!
Take care, my friend. If you need more Cleome seeds, let me know.

Friday

Friday, July 20, 2012

What a horrible day for Colorado last night. 12 dead and 59 injured as of now. 10 of the dead are still in theater. Police is giving first broadcast. Several of injured are critical. This area is planning extra security today.
Our TV in living room has been slowly dying. It is 9 years old. So Bill went to Walmart and got a new flatscreen. I was very surprised at how cheap it was. We have swapped the tv's out and new one was very easy to set up and get dvd player to work. Will have to get use to a more rectangle screen. Have noticed color isn't as good if viewed from side. Bill said he bet sports would look great on it.I told him it was too bad he would never find out. Our standing joke is that sports only plays back here.
I finally got some pictures of the black swallowtail butterfly and almost got one of yellow one but I wasn't fast enough

Here is butterfly solar light that one of Bill's customers sent me.

And a blue jay that stopped by .He has a peanut in last pic

The crock pot meal was great.Bill's was a little dry as his had breast meat and mine was thighs. Just put your stuff in crock pot and top with cream of chicken soup. Then put dry onion soup mix on top. I use cream soups a lot in crock pot but never added dry onion soup on top. Next time I will have to add some broth to Bill's .

  Hi Eleni..........
When something happens like it did in Colorado, I can't help but wonder what happened in that young man's life that caused him to react the way he did? He was in med-school, had his entire life ahead of him.........what happened?????? I have worked with young people all of my life and it is so sad to see how lost many of them are and how many fall through the cracks.
I am going to have to look for a solar butterfly.........did they have any hummers????
Have a good rest of the weekend. I hope you like your flatscreen as much as we do ours.

It's very sad to comprehend such horror and I was having a very difficult time with it yesterday. I recently read a book by one of my favorite authors, Wally Lamb: The Day I Believed. It's a fictional account of one of the survivors of Columbine, and the tragedy her life became. Most likely everyone in that theater will have a difficult time moving on with their lives.

It's also striking that this event happened 15 miles from Columbine. That this happened there is a testament to how an event like this can infect an entire community for decades. So sad.

Happy there are still wonderful things in life - like new TV's and butterflies!

Hair Cut Day

Thursday, July 19, 2012

One thing about getting my hair cut is it forces me out of the house. My hair is getting very thin in the front on top. I think it is all the meds I take. As thick as my hair has been for most of my life I never expected it to start thinning. If it gets too bad I might try a bald head.

Not a great pic but I never take good pics.
My scale is going down and unless I do something real stupid I should be back down from that 2 week gain.
Butterflies were back today with the sunshine. The large black swallowtail just flew by just to show off.Doesn't stop long enough for pic. But I will get him one day.
Here are a few I took this morning. The red plant is one that loves lots of
water.I have 3 of them in various shades. Without rain they start drooping

Our TV in living room is dying so Bill is going to look at new ones this weekend.
Enjoy your weekend

My hair is getting thinner on top too. I guess it could be one of the"Perks" of getting older!!!!! ARE there ANY perks to getting older????? I like your picture and your hair looks great, but.........I think you would look good bald too. Think how much easier Bald would be...........
We finally got rain last night and I could hear the Cleome giving Thanks. Today they are all standing tall and all the blossoms are open. They look so good, but.........more heat is on the way for the weekend, so it will be short-lived. It is amazing how we can water and water and water and the plants look stressed and one rain shower and they look revived. Rain is the secret.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Getting Tired of Rain

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

I know we always need rain and some of you need it badly. But it sure seems like we are having way too much. It started last night and has been non stop except for a couple of hours. At least it is not all storm.Right now it is a gentle rain.
Poor Roxy hasn't been out since this morning. She refuses to go outside. She will go when Bill gets here as he will stand out in rain with her. I am not standing out in the rain.
My eating is better but needs to be much better. I am going to try to listen to my tape twice a day. That should help. I may see about getting another so I can swap them out. But right now I just want my dear friend to help Angel. That comes first.
I taped Rachael Ray while I took a nap. I usually skip thru a lot of it.She had a great section on going thru the grocery store. I knew most of what she said but did learn a few new things. Susan Lucci is on now. Can't believe she was on the soaps for 41 years. She is so young looking. She always seems very nice when she is on talk shows.
Here are some rainy day pics.
This was this morning

This was just a couple of minutes ago. Can't believe how much it bloomed.

just rain pics
