You make me want to try and grow something. I'm finally having the broken pool removed and back porch rescreened and repaired. I can't kneel or bend over very easily, so thought I'd try and grow some cukes in a container or planter. What do you think? I'd like to try my hand at pickles. Any advice for a novice?

  Hi Eleni.......
I always love your pictures!!! The ones of your plants make me want to head out to Home Depot, but I think I will wait to see what made it through the winter first. With the warm weather we have been having and now the rain, I can almost hear my plants growing. I have 11 perennial gardens and between Ken and I, we have managed to clean up 8 of them. If the weather stays good we will try to finish next week. This is the first time ever that we have been able to work in our gardens this early.
You can sure tell that Abigail LOVES her Mommy. What beautiful girls they both are. I agree with TILLIEBEE, when you get down........just look at that picture. It can't help but make you smile.
Later.....

An orange tree! How fun and very Floridian of you! emoticon. My ivy plant I bought last year is still alive, must be hard to kill. The other plant I bought at the same time isn't doing to well. My African violet at work isn't flowering but I noticed today the leaves look pretty good. That's the extent of my plants.

I love Abigail's hair! Too darn cute!!

Oh those plants are gorgeous! Will you get oranges from the tree? When my sister had a winter home in Florida, she had an orange and a grapefruit tree in her yard and when we visited her, she let me pick some off the trees! I thought that was awesome!
Thanks again Eleni for sharing these photos!

Much Better Day Today

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Haven't talked to Tamara's parents but I know she in a safe place.
We have progress with Joy. I told her yesterday by text that I will not talk to her by phone for awhile. Texting only.
Angel's friend was with Joy all day and went to doc with her.Told doc everything. The drinking, the living conditions.Everything. He was great. He gave her all the tools she needs to quit drinking and told her only she can do it.He also gave her a b-12 shot, antibiodic, med that will make her sick if she tries to drink also something for vomiting if it starts while detoxing.. Also mild anxiety pill. Also told her she had to see a physicologist and gave her name of person to go to. She is one that has to follow thru. They will be removing the carpets in 2 bedrooms..To say they are disgusting is putting it mildly. They will paint the floors. Sharon gave all 3 dogs a bath.probaby first in months. So far Bill and I have put out $500 and will give girl staying with her something later.
This is it for me. She does it or I am out of her life. I swore years ago I will not deal with a drunk. I had done it too many years.I told her it was time to stop saying how much she loves me and prove it. Talk is cheap.I know she will have a few slip ups as it is a horrible disease but this is first time she admitted she had problem and asked for help.
OK now for brighter stuff.
Here is my grandson Tyler with big brother Ben aand Daddy Benjamin

This is for Patricia. One pot has purple and white. This are ver small flowers but so pretty

This is plant we got last year and it is full of buds and starting to bloom. It is also in Hummingbird garden

Here is my small orchid with buds getting bigger

Good morning,Friend! Sounds like Joy is at the crossroads...which path will she choose? I've been through the heartache of alcoholism with my son and mother and understand your tough love. The last time my son was in rehab, I was counseled about enabling and knew I had to toughen up. He's been sober 3 years, thank God. You can count on me to keep her and your family before the Throne of Mercy and Grace. Your photos of your little piece of paradise and family bring me joy and reminds me of the blessings our Father has given us to enjoy.

I know from experience that drinking can be conquered. DH hasn't had a drink in 31 years. I thank God for that. But the person has to want to do it. I pray this is the time for Joy. I think your gardens are a beautiful reminder of God's handiwork in this world. Just imagine all the varieties of plants he has put out there for us to enjoy. And you have a lot right outside your windows to see. Remember always. You are loved.

  Hi Eleni...........
As hard as it is, you are taking the right approach with Joy. SHE has to be the one to stop drinking and when she does, she will Thank you for NOT enabling her. We did not let Ken's brother come to our house until he stopped drinking. It was difficult and he hated us, but after he had been sober for almost a year, he wrote us a letter (too difficult for him to talk to us face to face at that time) and admitted that our "Tough Love" was what finally made him stop. It just takes time and commitment. I will continue to pray for you.

It is funny to see how little your Cleome are........almost like they are stunted. If you planted them directly in your soil, they could get to be around 6' tall. They have been alive for so long. When they are grown up here, they go in the ground in May and are done blooming by late October. Maybe Bill could try a couple of seeds directly in the ground in a sunny spot just to see what would happen and how tall they would get.

I loved all of your pictures. Aren't grandchildren the best??????

Please continue to take care of yourself.

The pictures are beautiful Eleni. I went back and read yesterday's blog too, and so glad Tamara has been found and is safe. Prayers have been answered. Will pray for Joy and those working with her. Yes, alcohol is a terrible disease and only when she makes up her mind can she be helped. You have done all that you can and I do understand where you are coming from. We have had problems with 1 daughter (pain meds) and doesn't matter what we want, they have to want it too.     First, your pictures . . . they are beautiful! Like a breath of fresh air, so nice to see flowers blooming outdoors and butterflys! Oh my ... thank you Eleni.

Lovely pictures of the children too, looks like they had a lot of fun!

And Joy . . . I'd say you are doing the best thing, both for Joy and for yourself. There comes a time when you've just got to say "enough is enough" and often, hearing that really helps the other person! To keep on helping her if she does not try to help herself is enabling her Eleni and would do her no good.

Please, keep me posted on her progress. I'm saying a prayer for her and for you too!

Good and Bad News

Monday, March 19, 2012

Very stressful day.
Started out with Bill coming back home from work sick. He is feeling much better now.
The good news is my grand daughter Tamara has been found. Her mother got her this afternoon. But she is going to be Baker Acted to get her meds etc straighten out. They were on way to hospital when I last talked to her mother. She doesn't know she will be there for a few days. She thinks it is just to get meds and go home. Her parents at least can relax some now. We know she is alive.
Bad news is my oldest daughter Joy is about at rock bottom. Her drinking is winning. Angel has been dealing with her today. Joy thinks she can detox all on her own. I spend 3 hours texting Angel today. It is a bad situation all around. A friend of Angel has volunteered to stay with Joy. If she didn't have her 3 dogs it would make the solution easier. Only good thing is that she has admitted she needs help.
So keep Joy in your prayers and thank you for all your prayers for Tamara.
And remember my Angel who tries to help everyone.Needless to say I am exhausted mentally tonight.
Much love to you all.
PS Joanne I love you but don't call me tonight.I will talk to you tomorrow

I have a friend who lost her career (RN of 25 yrs) over the drinking.. threw away a 6 figure income because she could not "get it" that she did not NEED to drink ! She had been in and out of rehab over the last 3 years at least 6x and once it was a 3 month stay. They have to really WANT it and get over what is making them drink-- I am hoping this is her last time-- she just got out an inpatient stay and appears to be doing okay this time taking it one day at a time.

Many prayers coming out to you for your daughter and granddaughter's healing. Take time to heal YOU as well! emoticon

I am very glad to hear that Tamara is home and that she is going to get help.

I certainly sympathize with you re: Joy. Ken's second oldest brother is an alcoholic. He went in for treatment 12 years ago and hasn't had a drink since. It was so difficult for the entire family and destroyed his relationship with his wife and his son. I know it is a disease but it doesn't make it any easier to watch the destruction.

You will all be in my prayers.

Joy will be in my prayers. I had a dear older sister, who was an alcoholic and I know what a negative affect it had on the whole family, especially her 4 children. By the time she stopped drinking, she had pancreatic cancer, so we lost her anyways.

Joy has to pull herself up out of this. You can only do so much and the rest is up to her.

  Hi Eleni.........
I am sorry to hear that you are so tired, but glad that you are taking care of yourself with naps.
I have been really tired lately too, but I think that our weather is affecting me. In mid-March, we often have some of our worst snow storms and cold weather. For over a week now, we have had temperatures in the mid to high 80s. I worked in one of my gardens wearing shorts and a tank top today. I don't usually get to do that until at least May. When I go to bed at night, I try to read my latest book, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, which I find very interesting, and I keep falling asleep!!!!! At this rate, I won't finish it for a very long time!!! I really AM NOT complaining.........our heating bills have been great!!!!! I just can't get used to it.
Anyway..........I hope you have a great week and that your strength returns.

Happy St Patrick's Day

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Today was an ok day.
My oldest son William and his wife Tresia came by with a late lunch. He brought a ton of greek food. Greek chow mein,Gyros, greek salad, bread. I froze 2 bags of 3 cups rice and a big bag of the chow mein. They were headed to a big street party in Dunedin.
Brianna is meeting her cousin in Clearwater and that bothers me. My grandson is not a very good role model. Just got text from Brianna saying she was home. Must have been too much for her.She came home early because she was sunburned and didn't want to be on road with all the drunks. She is such a smart girl.
My chest cold is just about gone. Now just my normal not feel good.
Roxy was so funny when my son got here. She gets so excited when people come in. When William came in door he told her one time to be quiet and she settled completely down. I think he scared her into being good. LOL Before they left she ended up getting on his lap trying to lick him. I always try to tell people to tell her to sit but they don't.
I still haven't gone outside . Maybe tomorrow.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi sweetness...I'm so happy that you had a good visit with your son and best of all he brought you some fabulous Greek food. I may have been Greek in a former life...I loved all the Greek God myths..and I totally LOVE Greek food. In fact I just purchased a new spice that is kind of on the lines of the Greek seasoning I usually use in most everything. This one has a little more kick to it and I LOVE it's name...it's called "Slap your momma" I put it in almost everything. I got it from World Cargo..they have some awesome exotic seasonings and spices. We have one at the Coconut Mall which as you know is only about 5 minutes from our house. If you like a little kick...this one's a dandy! emoticon emoticon emoticon
