A Little Here and There

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Didn't do anything exciting but did complete a few projects.
First I finished up my meds. This time I took 5 days by doing just a little each night. One night was just getting all the bags ready. Then each night made up 3 weeks of one pill taking.I take pills 4 times a day. I am amazed I don't have an ulcer.Today put them all together on one huge safety pin for each week. Then straighten out box I keep pill bottles in.
Next was spices. I had Bill bring all my spices to my card table. My 2 everyday swivels and my other turn tables of extra spices. It is time to make my special italian spice mix that I use on almost anything. First I made sure every day jars were full and reorganized them a little different.Meanwhile having my list I need for spices so I can see what I have and what I need. I ended up needing 4 spices which isn't bad. I always have trouble finding a spice called savory. My grand daughter Felicia works at publix and said she can get it for me.
And speaking of Felicia she just called me a few minutes ago to tell me Abigail took her first step without falling down. Felicia was so excited. I told her to get some new running shoes as she is going to need them. She also bought herself a new camera so facebook will be full of pics for me to choose from.
We had turkey burgers tonight. No bread. Bill's was just plain burger but I stuffed mine. Made two thin burgers and put some shredded cheese and frozen spinach on one and topped with 2nd thin burger. Sealed the edges. When Bill's got done I took his out and put mine in oven for 10 minutes.
It was good.Next time maybe I will add some mushrooms.
I have started tracking my water. Will need to do it for several days to get an average. I am still drinking a lot but less than I was.It isn't easy to cut back as I am usually drinking fluids all day and even during the night. Meds make mouth so dry during the day and my full face c-pac really dries my mouth so I keep a drink by bed.
Angel is getting good at the couponing. But the stuff I buy doesn't have as many coupons. She did really good today but she didn't have anything that would be called healthy. I did learn that the stores really take coupons from other stores.Just have to check stores to see what they will take.
Bill was laughing at my card table. It has become my desk / work station. It gives me room to spread out. If anyone is coming to house I can take it down.
I guess that is it
Oh Smartie pants Bill has lost 8#. His biggest weakness is fries and ice cream. He has cut back on potatoes but was just eating ice cream.. He never eats large amounts of anything. He has so much will power
Hope you had a good weekend. It did not get as cold as it was suppose to but heat did come on often.By Wed we will be back in high 70's.

  Hi Eleni........
You accomplished a lot on Sunday. I did a few things, but for some reason was very tired. I pushed to get things done but didn't do as much as I had hoped. My back has been bothering me and when that happens it really slows me down.
Good for Bill. I wish that I could get Ken to get back on track. He loses so quickly when he does watch what he eats and hits the treadmill. I wish I could lose half that fast!!!
Abigail taking her first step reminded me of our youngest son. He came over on Saturday with his girlfriend's 6-month old daughter and she is starting to crawl all over. No more letting her out of his sight. I told him that his busy days are right around the corner. He has NO IDEA how fast Sadie will travel!!!!!
Have a great week.

I'd say you had a good Sunday Eleni. You got lots done re:pills and spices, that's more than I did, lol.

Yup, men seem to lose weight better than we women do, it's just their nature I think. I've got a niece that can gain by just looking at food yet her husband eats and eats and his weight stays the same. Go figure!

You had a busy and productive weekend! I've never used the spice called savory. Do you use it plain on anything or do you mix it with other spices?

All the men I know drop weight much quicker. It's so unfair!! emoticon Good for Bill! 8 pounds is great for cutting back on food.

I hope you have a great Monday!

It's wonderful that you accomplished some things today as I've been kind of slug--just reading and sparking & daydreaming the day away for me. Men always seem to have more willpower and lose weight so much easier than women. My ex used to buy a lb bag of candy and it would last him all week if I did that it would all be gone in a day or even a couple of hours--LOL!

Grocery Day

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Went to grocery store for 1st time in weeks. It was nice to get out. I have been feeling somewhat better the last couple of days.
I started keeping track of my fluid I drink yesterday and made a chart so I could see how I was doing. Then I got the brilliant idea to track it on spark.I added it to my nutrition list and it keeps track great BUT. It counts it as calories. So I may go back to my chart idea. Or I can subtract the amount at end of day but it will show my total calories as higher . I can't use the water as it counts cups and I want to count ounces.
We are suppose to have a couple of cold nights. But it will warm up again. Temps started dropping a few hours ago. Just saw where it is suppose to get colder than I thought. It will be close to freezing and too late to bring plants in.If they make it thru tonight I will try to get Bill to bring them in tomorrow. He isn't thrilled about it.
Well time to kick back. Hope you had a good day.

Next to the cold weather you're having I can't complain about our cold and rainy day. We need the rain so much but I don't like it as all my arthritic joints hurts like _ell! It does me good also to get out as I stay home more than I get out. It's good to hear you're feeling better. Give yourself lots of TLC and stay warm and cozy in your house.

I'm glad you felt well enough to go shopping. That's a very good sign!

We're down here in Charlotte County and I'm worried about my plants. I almost lost 24 impateins with the last frosty night. And I had to cut them back to get rid of the dead leaves and they grew back another COLOR! I bought bright pink and now they're red. YUCK!

You have so many beautiful plants, I'll be praying for them!

  Hi Eleni.......
I am so glad to hear that you have been feeling better and even got out to go grocery shopping. It does help to get out and about and see other sites and people.

Something is wrong if the tracker is attaching calories to your water. You might want to ask them about this on the support site.

I am trying real hard to feel sorry for your cold nights, but we are below zero with wind chill factors, and Florida sounds real good to me. Is the invitation still open to visit?

Take care.

So glad you are feeling better and got out shopping today. Getting out really perks us up. It's very cold here too and snowed during the night and most of today. Neighbor shoveled for us but we didn't go out anywhere, it was a "stay at home" day for us.

Made my First Shepherds Pie

Friday, February 10, 2012

Well I looked at probably 25 or more recipes and made my own from what I saw.It turned out super good but was a heavy meal as we both ate too much.It was high in calories. I used ready to serve mashed potatoes and wow that had a lot of calories. It was a learning experience. The whole pie came to 1962 calories and I figure I ate about 850. Bill got rid of what was left so I wouldn't get in it. I still ate a little less than half. If I ever make it again I will make a few changes to lower calories. But don't plan on making it again for a long time.
So far I am at 1300 cal so I can still have a treat later

Here is my visitor of the day

And this is just the cutest picture of my great grand daughter Abigail.

I am trying to reduce the amount of fluid I drink each day which isn't easy as I stay so thirsty all the time. Altho I am above where I should be I am still under what I have been drinking. Bill tells me to take little sips but just can't do that.
Bill fixed the kitchen light and will do receptacle tomorrow.
Well thats about it for tonight. Hope your day went well.

Yummy yum...on the shepherd's pie. The hubs and I used to love Costco's Chicken Pot Pies until I started paying attention to calorie counts...whew...those things are at least 2 days worth of calories and all in ONE meal. Haven't had one since. emoticon I seem to do better on the days that I start out with a big green smoothie...probably because it's SO packed full of nutrients that my body isn't screaming to be fed something that has nutritional value. Maybe you should try them...they are really VERY tasty and I've heard that they are as good for you as a blood transfusion...HA...knew that would grab your attention! emoticon

I love our Florida squirrels..they are so plump...the ones I used to see up north always looked gaunt and hungry.... emoticon

EVERYTHING is better in FL right...well...MOST everything.

Abi is a little charmer...what a doll baby! I forget...who does she belong to?

Your Shepard's Pie looks delicious! I haven't made one for a long time. Maybe the calories scared me away. But, actually, it's probably because I'm too lazy. I don't eat meat much and my DH just wants me to use ground beef to make sloppy Joes or chili.

If you get a chance could you "blog" us the recipe?

I emoticon Shepherd's Pie and yours looks so good!!!!! We have it about once a year because of the calories.
Once again, I would like to reach in and steal Abigail. She looks so grown up in her robe and towel.
I am tired tonight. Elizabeth and I were together for 12 hours today, and even though she is very good and fun to be with, I am exhausted. She talks ALL THE TIME and just keeping up with the conversation takes a lot of energy. We baked and frosted cookies, went for a sled ride in our snow storm today, and then went out to eat tonight with her Dad. Her Mommy is in Chicago for the weekend.

Have a great weekend.

I finally got the script for yeast infection. Cardiologist had to approve it. He doesn't think I should have any trouble just taking it 10 days.I have to check my blood in 3 days but that's no problem as I have my own machine.
We thought we had a bad electrical problem at house,Bill change the breaker out and it tripped right out. Turned out it was the ground fault switch. Took that apart and now everything else on that breaker works.
Next Bill has to find special bulb for kitchen now. Just a bunch of little things.
Doc gave me the ok to try a few new things with diuretics.Hopefully it will prevent the huge swings in fluid.
Angel is having a rough time. She is trying to do too much and just making herself worse. Her girl quit and new girl doesn't know as much. I told her if she loses all her clients she can just get new ones. You can't clean houses with 4 broken ribs.
I am trying to keep my calories down.Keeping track so we will see how it goes.
Weather is still nice.
Hope you had a good day.

Also glad you got the meds for infection and can do more about the fluid retention too. I have swings with that and I double my fluid retention meds when I swell too much. We have to practically doctors ourselves these days!

No, Angel definitely should not be cleaning houses with broken ribs! If she loses clients, she can advertise for more. I'd never give up my cleaning lady if she had to be off to mend broken ribs, I'd wait for her to get better! Says a lot for people if they do get another cleaning lady!

Hope today is a really good one for you.

We have Elizabeth for the whole day tomorrow, so we are going to make Valentine Cookies. She is so excited to make the roll-outs and then to get to frost them herself and decorate. It SHOULD be INTERESTING..........

Not much going on again. I did have one butterfly visit. Those two white spots tell if it is male or female but don't remember which. Too lazy to look it up right now.

The next twopics should make you smile. Those of you that have followed me for a long time know and I have been known to do silly things to and for each other. As most of you know Bill does most of shopping etc the last few weeks. We have a ton of birthdays in Feb and Mar so I gave him a list of the ones coming up soon. His birthday is also this month, Jokingly I said buy one for yourself from me.
So he brings home theses cards and starts showing me which is for who and then just gives me one. I thought it was probably one he got me as he often gets me cards. Well Are you ready for this?He bought a valentines card to him from me.Said he picked one he knew was something I would get him. He was right and it was a good laugh. Here is front and when you open these arms spread out.Exactly like something I would buy.

My heart doc's nurse called today while I was taking my nap and said doc says I can take the pills for 10 days that I need. I now have to get doc office to call it in and tell druggist cardiologist says I can take it.
I started counting calories today. It is a start .
Hope you had a good day

  Hi Ms. Eleni,
Proud of you!! We'll count together, how's that? Today, I'm not counting though because I can't eat :(. I have to have a colonoscopy tomorrow so you know the diet for today, basically nothing, nothing solid anyway. I've had chicken broth, tea, I made some jello, gonna eat that now. At 10:00, I get the drink the lovely medicine again, truthfully, it doesn't taste too bad. It even said I can add chrystal light to it as long as it's not red. Doing it cuz I should, let you know how I do,

love ya,
