Haven't done much today. Finally finished reading Pilars of the Earth. Did not think it was that great but read it anyway.Kept thinking it might get better.
Am also reading Inheritance the last of the Eragon series. Will pick out another one on the used Kindle my son gave me.
Bill did the grocery shopping again this week. Went to 3 different stores and couldn't find everything. Found a couple of new recipes I want to try.
Weather is still nice.Cool at night but nice during the day.
Hope you are having a good weekend.
My great grand daughter likes pickles just like me.

    Addi likes pickles too. I think they feel good on her gums.

We went shopping last night in the snow. The store was almost empty, it was great!! We just got back from Wal-Mart. I'm on the hunt for an electric stapler. Wal-Mart only had battery powered.

I'm on a new recipe kick too. So tired of the same things. I made meatballs in the crockpot for meatball sandwiches. Jason said the meatballs were as good if not better than Subway's. It was a compliment. emoticon. I even ate mine on a whOle wheat roll and just a little cheese. I'll be making those again.

    Abigail is cute eating the pickle. i like yum yums pickles and olives.What were you looking for in the stores that Bill had to go to three stores and not find. i went grocery store today too glen and i had to go because we didn,t want to go last night after work we got home at 12am but we would have went shopping inbetween but were to tired.after a week of other peoples work and my own i,ve been really the sun came out today so that is one reason we went out shopping than i made supper.tomorrow i,m making pork loin roast in crock pot and maybe put mushroom soup on it while it is in there.i got a small cabbage so glen and i will have that too.will be glad to get back to my own hours next week.take it easy and big hugs. emoticon

    I haven't read the pillars of the earth series, but I'm rereading the Clan of the Cavebear serries right now! Since the final book came out, I decided it was time to go back to the beginning and read them all again. emoticon

How cute is Abigail eating that pickle???? My boys always made faces while eating sour pickles and didn't start liking them until they were around 8 or so. Now they can't get enough of them.
I liked Pillars Of The Earth and liked the sequel too (I am having a Senior moment, as I can't remember the name of the second book). I can remember how the treatment of women at that time in history bothered me. I do like all of the research Ken Follett puts into his books.
I took Elizabeth to see Beauty And The Beast in 3-D today. She kept reaching out in front of her whenever anything flew on the screen. Both of us really enjoyed it. We have the movie here and have watched it often, but the 3-D version on the BIG screen was fun.

Nothing much happening here. Beautiful day.
Brianna came and did some house work.She comes once a week. And she had been at work all day. Such a sweet girl.
Bill isn't feeling too good.Hope he feels better . He should have called doc today.

    Hope Bill gets better soon. does he have a cold make him some home made chicken soup. aeh! yes i think i was stupid wishing to be older. naaa! only we could visit there before we did we would have change our minds.oh well.make the best of it all i guess no choice! glad you have someone to do some housework she is a life saver aeh! well take care have a super day tomorrow. if nice get out for a bit.glad we had sun on saturday. emoticon

You are so right!!! I remember my Mom saying to me when I would complain about wanting to be older, "Don't wish your life away!" Now I know what she meant.
You can send me lots of warm weather. It is very cold here and tomorrow the forecast includes freezing rain. I don't mind the snow, but I DO NOT like to drive on ice.

    Hope that Bill is feeling better today. It was beautiful weather here too yesterday. Totally freezing, but the sun was shining off the snow and all the trees were dazzling with the sun sparkling off the ice. I think that you need sunglasses more in winter than summer because of the reflection from the snow and ice. Beautiful!

Not much going on.Beautiful day outsideI haven't done much except check the checkbook and write some checks for bill's.
I did try a new recipe. I am always saving recipes that look easy. I am not into fancy. Bill thought it was great.I thought it was a little bland.


Greek Chicken
4 chicken breasts, skinless and boneless
1 medium head cabbage, quartered
1 lb. carrots cut into 1-inch pieces
Water, to cover
4 cubes chicken bouillon
1 tsp. poultry seasoning
1/4 tsp. Greek-style seasoning

2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 cup water

Rinse chicken and place in Slow Cooker. Rinse cabbage and place on top of chicken, and then add carrots. Add enough water to just cover all. Add bouillon cubes and sprinkle liberally with poultry seasoning. Add Greek seasoning to taste and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
To Make Gravy: When you're nearly ready to eat, pour off some of the juice and place in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Dissolve cornstarch in about 1/4 cup water and add to saucepan and simmer all together until thick. Serve gravy over chicken and potatoes.

PS I used one chicken breast and 2 boneless thighs. I only used half of a cabbage head cut in big chunks. I added 3 potatoes cut in chunks. I used 4 carrots cut in chunks.I used chicken broth instead of cubes.I did put chicken in first but next time will put it on top. Did not make a gravy.just used broth in pan. I had to add a little salt once it was in my bowl. Next time I may add more greek seasoings.

Your Greek Chicken sounds very good. I will definitely give it a try. Does Greek Seasoning come pre-mixed, or do you make your own? What is in it?

A Lipstick plant is an indoor plant for us for at least two seasons. We usually put it outside in the Summer and Fall months. It has bright green leaves on long stems and at the end of the stems there are clusters of bright orange tube-shaped flowers. They are very easy to start and are great in hanging baskets. They really pull in the Hummingbirds as they love the orange blossoms. I will see if I have a picture of ours and send it to you. We have started so many plants for others from our main "Mother" plant. I think that you could easily find one at a greenhouse, but, if not, I will send you a slip.

    Hi Ms. Eleni,
I collect easy recipes too, I like to collect easy cookbooks too. I tried your sausage soup recipe and boy was that a hit! We had a couple extra people too and they loved it. Hubby liked it very much and he can sometimes be a tough critic. I used the kiebasa cuz that's that what I had on hand. I added carrots too, delicious. We had cheesy bread with it, wasn't sure it would be filling enough for others but it was. Thanks, going to make the minestrone today, talk soon,

    I'll have to try this recipe--thanks for sharing it. Last night I fixed Spark's Sticky chicken as found it in their recipes. It was so tasty and we all loved it and sure didn't have any leftovers. You can make it in a crockpot but I baked mine for hours in the oven and it turned out great. I also put some rub on the potatoes and baked them with the chicken. You might enjoy it as much as we did and it's really easy to make. It was a nice day here too.

    The recipe sounds yummy but I don't dare feed Jason cabbage!! emoticon I love crockpot cooking. I'm actually doing my dinners for the week and writing the grocery list. Since I've been working late crockpot meals seem the thing to do.

Dark Dreary day

Good day for sleeping and I am heading to bed after I do this. My favorite soap has ended so have to find something else to watch.I printed those recipes as they are written but i use them mostly as a guide. My first blog i did on them shows how I do them.Watched biggest loser last night. Am starting to get tired of it.Am glad they did not bring back the tennis player as a trainer.
I am doing good with caloris but it isn't showing yet. Bill got some barbecue ribs from frozen foods and we had it last night. Never again. Not good for my tummy.
Ok Nap time for me.Hope your day is going well.
I do have a few flowers blooming. That is always nice

    I am following the Biggest Loser show, too, but I have to wait til the day after it is aired so it will be posted on, where I can watch it for free online - or my TV using the Roku player. We stopped using Cable about 2 yrs ago now. I still miss it, but glad I can get some tv for free with our internet connection.

    I made BBQ ribs in the crOckpot last weekend. They were delicious!! They just fell apart and the BBQ sauce I used was good.

    I don't like dreary cold days as they seem to depress me. . .I hope you took a good nap and feel better than before. Now that I'm older I also have to be careful about spicy and greasy foods. . .I sure like them but my stomach doesn't and most of the time I go with how much I want that food vs having an upset stomach. Sounds like a good day to grab an afghan and curl up with a good book.......or to take a nap like you are doing. It is cold here today, zero degrees, but tonight could be dangerous for anyone who has to be outside. We are supposed to have high winds which makes the already low temps seem WAY lower. This will be followed by two days of snow. I am glad that I don't HAVE to go anywhere this week. I am still tired from having the flu, so am happy to stay home.
Your blooms are beautiful. I will look at them tonight before I go to bed and pretend that it is warm.

Emiril Live Andouile and Potato Soup Excellent

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups chopped onions
1 pound Andouile sausage,cut into 1 inch pieces.We used Bratwurst sausage
2 tablespoons chopped garlic.Can use garlic powder.
2 bay leaves.
2 pounds white potatoes,peeled and diced.I didn’t peel
1 gallon chicken stock.I used chicken broth.
Salt & pepper
¼ cup chopped parsley.I used chopped in jar
I added a few chopped carrots for color

In a large pot,over medium heat,add the olive oil.
When the oil is hot,add onions and sauté for 2 minutes.Season with salt and pepper.
Add the sausage and continue to sauté for 2 minutes.
Stir in garlic and herbs.
Add the potatoes and stock
Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
Simmer the soup for 30 minutes or until potatoes are done.Add chopped parsley and season the soup with salt and pepper.

Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana

1 1/2 C. spicey sausge links -- 12

2 medium potatoes, cut in half lengthwise, and then cut into 1/4" slices

3/4 C. onions, diced

6 slices bacon

1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic

2 C. kale leaves, but in half, then sliced

2 T. chicken base

1 qt. water

1/3 C. heavy whipping cream
Prehead oven to 300 degrees. Place sausage links onto a sheet pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until done; cut in half length-wise, then cut at an angle into 1/2 inch slices.
Place onions and bacon in a large saucepan and cook over medium heat until onions are almost clear. Remove bacon and crumble. Add garlic to the onions and cook an additional 1 minute. Add chicken base, water, and potates, simmer 15 minutes. Add crumbled bacon, sausage, kale and cream. Simmer 4 minutes and serve.

Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana II

1 lb. Italian Sausage (favorite sausage,anduiole,bratswurst}
2 large Russet Baking Potatoes sliced in half, and then in 1/4 inch slices
1 large Onion, chopped
1/2 can. Oscar Meyer Real Bacon Bits (these are less fatty than real bacon) Any bacon bits should work or can use real bacon
2 cloves garlic minced
2 C. Kale
2 cans Chicken Broth
1 qt. Water
1 C. Heavy Whipping Cream( can use milk but cream makes it creamier. (I sometimes use half and half with milk)

Cook sausage in a 300-degree oven. Bake approximately 1/2 hour, drain on paper towels and cut into slices. ( I slice and sauté with onions in pot I am making soup)Drain grease off.

Place onions, potatoes, chicken broth, water, garlic in pot, and cook on medium heat until potatoes are doneI also add a little thinly sliced carrots but I have these. Add sausage, bacon, salt, and pepper to taste, and simmer for another 10 minutes. Turn to low heat, add kale and cream. Heat through and serve. ( I put kale first for a few minutes)

French Onion Soup

Sauté onions
When almost done add some garlic
Bay leaf

Add beef broth
Simmer for a few minutes.

Can add bread /cheese to bowl or eat as is
