Errand Day

Saturday, October 01, 2011

Our first trip was to WalMart to buy 1 thing. You know how that goes. I got a nice case for my new laptop.

Also my buddy Royal put the idea in my head to get a wireless keyboard for out here so I did. One less wire to remember where it goes.
I found a new veggie for me to try. It is a root veggie called daikon

Description - The word Daikon actually comes from two Japanese words: dai (meaning large) and kon (meaning root). Daikon is is root vegetable said to have originated in the Mediterranean and brought to China for cultivation around 500 B.C. Roots are large, often 2 to 4 inches in diameter and 6 to 20 inches long. There are three distinct shapes - spherical, oblong and cylindrical. Preparation - This is an extremely versatile vegetable that can be eaten raw in salads or cut into strips or chips for relish trays. It also can be stir-fried, grilled, baked, boiled or broiled. Use the daikon as you would a radish. It may be served raw in salads or grated for use as a condiment (if you don't have a Japanese-style grater, use a cheese grater and grate just before serving), pickled, or simmered in a soup. They are also preserved by salting as in making sauerkraut. Daikon also is used in soups and simmered dishes. To prepare, peel skin as you would a carrot and cut for whatever style your recipe idea calls for. Not only is the root eaten, but the leaves also are rich in vitamin C, beta carotene, calcium, and iron, so they are worth using instead of discarding.
A Japanese secret to cooking daikon is to use water in which rice has been washed or a bit of rice bran added (this keeps the daikon white and eliminates bitterness and sharpness}.
I also got a new cast iron skillet that was marked way down

here is what I got for Feel Good Corner but put it in gazebo instead.

And this plant that sits on kitchen sill has some blooms starting.

Roxy has been a problem with her eating. Some days she just won't eat. Here I put some milk in her food and she ate it all.

And our DIL's father passed away last night so Heidi is coming for the weekend. She is bringing Landon by the house for me to see. She is so good about letting him know who we are.
ok Bill is already wiped out on couch and I think I might go snag a short nap. Weather is very nice today.
Enjoy your weekend

That laptop case is SNAZZY. I hope Roxy gets her appetite back. I stress when our silly little kitty won't eat. I buy him all the super healthy foods and he won't touch them. Just eat's Fancy Feast which is equivalent to our people food 'junk food'...I've read that they put smell enhancers in it to make it appealing even though it's basically nutrition less...he'll also eat the meat baby foods but those have lots of sodium in them...what are ya gonna do. I guess if he eats that the biggest hurdle, but we love our little fur babies don't we? I want him to be as healthy as I try to be. emoticon

  Hi Eleni........
You had a great errand day as did I. My sister-in-law and I went with a real estate agent to see a house which is over 100 years old. My SIL and BIL are thinking of possibly moving back to Wisconsin. She loves older homes and since I have always wanted to see the inside of this one, I went with her. It needs a lot of TLC, but if one had lots of money and was handy, it would be beautiful. Hardwood floors through out the house; beautiful stain glass windows; beautiful built-in wood cabinets and woodwork.........if I was younger, I would consider it myself. Then we went to an Autumn Craft Show which was really a good one. I spent too much money.
Hope you had a good nap.
Talk to you later.

Another Short Blog

Sorry. Just can't think of anything much to say.
Played around with new laptop and do like it. i did try to put my addresses in a folder on there but it won't read it. It does not have word. Has another program that does same thing. I did notice that some pics I had on a flash drive looks much better on it. But i know how to check my mail.I have to go to verizon web site as my brilliant computer guy couldn't get the one on computer to work. But that is minor as I use this one for most of that. I can get to spark and facebook. So only thing I need to figure out is the video part.By trial and error I will figure it out. So I don't need to learn everything on the laptop. I liked being able to sit in living room in recliner and play facebook games or emails.
Bill moved my big hibiscus out to feel good corner and it looks good out there.
We got a white bougainvillea yesterday but can't decide where to put it. It is in gazebo right now
ok hope you are ready for a great weekend.

To learn to use the video software, there should be "help" files you can click on if you can find them. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of poking around to find what an experienced person just does zip, zip, zip to get. Good luck.

Whew. What a day

Thursday, September 29, 2011

I have been talking about getting a regular laptop for me to use in living room and on trips. I have a good small ACEr notebook which works good but is small. can not play facebook games on it. So I decided I was getting one.So we stopped at computer store and checked into one. We decided on one and then came home and took my tower for our main computer there. He was transferring a lot of my info over to new one.He was suppose to set up the email as new one doesn't have outlook express. When we got back found out he couldn't make the email program work. But I can get to verizon home page and use the mail program there which is pretty slick now. I am not going to mess with the program as I use this one during the day. But now I can play scrabble in living room and Bill can play back here. Now I have to learn out to use the new computer. One thing I wanted was a web cam and it has that.Just have to figure out how to use it.It works as it recorded me trying to figure it out. haven't even figured out how to delete what it did record. It was worse than that old couple. It was super dark so I guess I will have to have better light. I even pulled a Bill. LOL. I couldn't get computer to open when we got home.We both tried and I finally called and asked how to open the blankity blank. You ready. I was trying to open the back of it. The writing is upside down. It will take a few days . Bill will take my small computer with him.
We stopped as we did errands and picked up a big bag of dog food for Joy.Took it to Angel and she take it to Joy . I saw on Facebook where her female boxer is PG. I am too angry to even talk to her. Angels friends are also looking for home for the male boxer. He is a sweet and beautiful dog, If he was female i might consider it.
Then we made a quick stop at Home Depot and got a plant for area over in feel good corner that looks bare with bamboo gone.
When we went to pick up computer we saw that a new cupcake shop had opened. Yes Bill got us one.
I was feeling a little guilty for buying it but as Bill said. i don't go places or buy expensive stuff. He thinks I deserve it. at least that money kids can't get.
Ok Gotta go for now.

Drat, I wish I would have read this sooner. I would have highly encouraged you to get the new I-Pad II. It is the BOMB! I'd better stay more in touch with your blogs from now on...bummer! But hope you enjoy your new computer, it's always fun to have a new gadget, even if it drives you buggy learning the ropes. I think you do amazingly well in the tech world...I wish more of my customers were computer savvy. It would save me mountains of time if they could learn to e-mail their pics of items they'd like to consign instead of me having to make house trips. Most of them can't even figure out how to take a picture with their new smart phones..what's the point of having something if you won't take the time to learn how to use it...seems like BIG wasted $$ to me. emoticon

Just another short one.
Computer guy came and couldn't find anything. He did some tweaking and took computer outside and blew all the dust out. It seems to be better. I will find out later when I play some scrabble as that was when it was the worse. Had to constantly reset or close out and open or re boot. I am hoping for the best.
We are suppose to get a little cooler weather soon.
Here is a picture of me and my oldest sister on my daddy's side that was taken several years ago. I could still walk easy and didn't weigh as much as I do now.

Really am at a loss for words. same old same.
Hope you guys are doing better with your eating than I am.

  Hi Eleni.....
I hope your computer will work better now. We are anxiously awaiting the possibility of faster internet service where we live. So many farmers use computers now, that the rural areas just have to keep up and get the service. Right now, I can time mine with a calendar!!!
My eating hasn't been the best lately either. Maybe when our company leaves, we can get back into our old eating pattern. I know that what I eat or don't eat is my responsibility, but having company and doing more cooking this past month has led to the return of some bad habits. I HAVE to get better. Maybe we can set up a mini-challenge between us.
Take care. Loved your picture. I always wanted a sister.

You always retain your beauty, Miss Fashionista! My day has been peaceful, so far. I made it through the drive-thru at Sonics without ordering anything for me...just two kids meals. They're having a sleepover and I'll take them to school in the morning. I've planned an orzo chicken with carrots, onions, celery, and fresh spinach throw-together for supper. Always Something

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Yesterday went well until I got call from my daughter Joy. She needed help with rent. So we took her a little money and some care bags. care bags had some food and some dog food. One bag that had canned beans in it got left at house. Bill took a pic of her 2 year old boxer so we could maybe find a home for it.She has 3 dogs and 2 need to go. I put his pic on facebook hoping someone might want to adopt him.He is pure boxer and a very pretty dog. I am glad he wasn't a girl or I would have been tempted.
i told Bill we need to make a place in back room for care bags stuff to be stored. And when we see 2 for 1 get stuff for bags.
Between the yard and medical bills and kids in need i had to call and have money taken out of savings. My emergency bank account is getting low. I am just happy I have savings I can get to when I need it.When it is gone it will be gone. But I refuse to stress about money now when i have back up. i don't plan on leaving kids anything.
And speaking of the yard. Bill is now beside hiimself. He hung up on the guy today. They were suppose to come tomorrow but he called Bill and said the sod was in bad shape from all the rain.So he won't be doing it until next week. I think Bill was more mad because he has told them several times to make sure gate is closed. I let Roxy out several times yesterday and Bill found the gate was not closed. We are just lucky she didn't try to get out
But on a bright side. I had another hummer today.Didn't stay long enough for pic but it did come. That is twice in less than a week. So I am hopeful I will one day see two together. They like the mexican petunias as that is plant they keep going to.
They are back working on bamboo tree.It is almost all cut down.
I am still not doing well with my eating and scale is starting to go up.I did it before and should be able to do it again.I am full of good intentions but thats crap.Actions speak louder than words.Gotta get my action going.

I'm so sorry to hear about the kids. Our kids are our kids no matter their age. It does get frustrating though when they can't seem to get their own act together. Mostly it's because they just aren't willing to do the physical work or put in the physical time it takes to make the money they always seem to be chasing. And then too...if they know they have a softie mom...well that's always the easier way to go.

In some ways I am relieved that our Josh is in a better place. It's a cold tough world out there. Your kids are truly blessed to have the mother they have in you! emoticon emoticon

You are really having a time with that back yard! Hope that it all gets fixed up quickly. Kids are a worry. We thought that our expenses would go down when we retired, but here we are renting yet another apt in the northern city where my son is in hospital. Money is necessary but I couldn't stand not being near my son during his slow recovery from his brain surgery.

Your family sounds like mine. I have a daughter who really could use some help, financially, but she usually turns down any offers for help. They have too much pride. The way they show it is by finding something wrong with any thing I try to buy for them. If I bought food it would we the wrong brand, yada, yada. And they won't take any money even though they are about to lose their home. Last year she had to pay a $120 penalty for not paying her house taxes on time. So I opened a bank account for her and told her it was to tie them over from pay check to pay check so that kind of stuff wouldn't happen again. She never uses the money in there. What else can I do?!

Hope you find a home for the boxer. It is better that they wait and put down good sod otherwise they will have to redo the whole job and that would be a lot longer process.
