Well last night was not a good night. One of those nights when I just could not get to sleep. It was around 5 am before I finally dozed off. Happens sometimes. It is now just once in awhile so I am happy with that. For a few months it was every night.
The large swallowtail stopped a couple of times to day but still not long enough for a picture. But since it is coming by every day my time will come.
Bill had the lawn guy come by and measure for grass and look at sprinklers we have. He will give us a price on extending sprinklers to back and put grass down. The gazebo should be here this weekend. getting closer.I want to extend the patio out just a little but Bill doesn't .So we will both think about it.We can't get any squares to match so he may win this one.But I am not ready to give up yet. I am thinking of a compromise that will make us both happy.
I haven't been doing as good with eating but I am still hoping for a small loss or at least no gain on Sunday
Bill's Friday bowling team starts up tomorrow. He is looking forward to it.
Ok here are some pics I took today. Not much variety in my pics.
I do love my yellow hibiscus. I discovered Bill let another one in front die. He is only person i know who can kill them. they are a hardy plant. But mine in back are doing good.
here is hibiscus 1 and 2.

Here is big momma again.still getting new blooms

just a hummingbird plant

And this is the plumaria pieces i put in a pot. There was article in paper that told how to do it so I had Bill cut a limb off

One of my crazy cactus

And the flowers Bill brought home

a blue jay I just now saw getting a drink

And also another @#$%^&**&^%%$# mouse.

Well as usual nothing too exciting here.

  Hi Eleni........
I am sorry to hear that you had a bad night but glad to hear it happens only occasionally and not every night. My husband has a terrible time getting more than 5 hours of sleep per night. He has ringing in his ears and it drives him crazy all day, but even more so at night.
Ken gathered some Cleome seeds today, so they are ready to send. I will do so as soon as they dry.
Loved your pictures (as usual). Your Plumaria plant is proof-positive that you have a green thumb.

As usual, lovely flowers. I love hearing about your plans for the yard, Gazebo, and patio and wonder who will win with the extension. Sounds like you are deciding to put in sod? We will have to do that for our front yard, but we know it's going to require a commitment to watering, which is not that great of an idea when you're in a drought.

I love entering your world through your pictures. Big Momma is GORGEOUS! Do you bring her in during the winter? I crashed last night and ate the kids brownies and pecan rolls. My popcorn wasn't air-popped either! Today's another day...so far so good. I treated myself with a nice New York strip and baked potato with sour cream and butter...all measured and tracked. I'll have a light supper and have saved a few treats for supper. What you got cookin'?

Good Afternoon & My New Visitor to Back Yard

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Hi there. I just tried to take a nap but didn't happen so I got up. We just had another nice rain and looks like it may start raining again.
Our Gazebo should be here Friday. Bill is getting antsy waiting. Once he gets it up in place we can have grass put in..I am also ready as I am tired of looking at only half of yard finished.
I need to watch my eating better as I have not done so good this week. I am tracking and that is how I know I have been consuming too many calories.
I am hoping to get my pics hung up this weekend. Bill is a terrible procrastinator so it may be awhile.
Ok Yesterday right after I posted my blog something caught my eye. i almost fell out of chair trying to get camera and get it focused. Unfortunately I can't get as clear a pic thru window in late afternoon. But I got some i think are not too bad. I had to check the internet to see what it was. I knew what it was just not which one. It is an Immature Coopers hawk. I am assuming immature just means young. The yellow eyes is how you tell. It is a common hawk in Florida and has no problem snagging birds as they fed at feeders. They will also dive into a clump of trees for a meal. The bamboo thicket in front of him is always full of birds. I had seen another hawk fly in there and take off with something.. But here he is. I was just glad to have something besides butterflies to show you

  Hi Eleni.......
We live in the country and at the edge of a woods, so we see quite a few hawks. One of the first years we lived here, we had a birdfeeder right outside our dining room window. It was February and we had had a lot of snow, so we had many birds visiting each day. Our oldest son had stopped over and he and I were standing near the dining room window. He was facing the bird feeder and we were visiting, when all of a sudden he actually ducked and said, "OMG". I turned to look out the window just as a hawk swooped over the bird feeder, grabbed a sparrow, and narrowly missed coming right through the window as he soared upward. What a sight!!!!! As much as I hated to see the little sparrow die like that, I also realized that it is nature. Oh..........and we moved the feeder away from the window..........far away!!!!!
I loved your pictures.

Another Short Blog

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Nothing going on today.Sorta boring. It has been thundering all day and cloudy but no rain yet.
I had hoped to get all the photo's ready to hang yesterday but didn't. Bill got right size frames but wrong frames. I have the mats on them but have to wait till he gets me the right frames. I still have to put a wire on the back of most of them
I wasn't impressed with parsnips and probably will not make them again. I ate them and they were ok but nothing special. I will stick with potatoes and carrots.
I didn't have any pics til just now.Looked out window and saw something on the head of one of my statues. I thought it was a leaf but it was this little guy

A large swallowtail just went flitting by taunting me. That's ok.One day he will stop.
Ok I said it was going to be short so I will say good day for now.

Rainy Day

Monday, August 29, 2011

It has been raining off and on all day. Dreary looking.
Worked on printing and framing photo's. I think I ended up with 16. I won't do anymore. Will just upgrade pictures when I get a better one. Bill picked me up 4 more frames. I will get photo's in them tonight. Have to put wires on back.
Here is a poster Bill talked me into buying. I say that because he showed it to me knowing I would want it. He is going to hang it in here for me.

Nothing new going on. i let my calories creep up so have to tighten that up.
I am cooking some of parsnips in oven.I took a small piece for a taste. Taste a lot like a potato with a slight sweet taste.
Here are some pics of a cardinal that visited. The pictures aren't real clear and it was late in afternoon and I don't get clear pics then.

I think I put the same one twice.
And then these two fellas

Ok Nothing much going on and I need to check supper

Grocery Day and Weigh in Day

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Today was our day to get stuff done. We first went to lunch at the new lee Roy Selmon restaurant that just opened. It will be one we will return to. Food was very good.
Then grocery time. As usual I am amazed at how expensive everything is. It took me almost 2 hours to get everything ready for fridge and freezer. The worse one was the bag of Kale. It was half stems.Took forever to go thru it. But it is done. Also washed and cleaned the peppers, tomatoes. Cleaned my shrimp for supper. Got a new kind of cantaloupe and it was so sweet. But everything is finished except putting a few cans up.
I got some more of the tofu spaghetti and will have it for supper. I also got a small bag of parsnips but have never cooked it. Any suggestions?
Today was my weigh in and I was down 1#. Not a lot but I am happy.
Bill used our Winn Dixie fuel perks and got 75 cents off per gallon on our gas. Not bad.
Ok No pictures today.Oh I did go to Michaels and got enough frames to finish my photo gallery I am making for wall where I had my drawings

Regarding the parsnips... I usually bake them and I just love them. Sometimes I put them in stews but my favorite is baked.
I have never heard of tofu Spaghetti. I gather you give it a thumbs up? I am looking for new ideas, so I just might look for it.
Sorry the weather is not cooperating, but I guess we can't complain given what we see on the news these days.

Tell me about Tofu Spaghetti. Is it Spaghetti Sauce made with tofu or does it also include noodles?
I always put parsnips in with potatoes, squash, carrots, turnips, zucchini, and whatever else I have on hand. I put it all in a roaster with a bit of olive oil and onions and garlic. The blended flavors are yummy!!!
Today I washed 6 of the 9 windows in our sunroom. I will finish tomorrow. Ken's brother and wife are coming from Oregon and could be with us most of September. This could be interesting?!?!?!

I was newly pregnant and my mom had just brought in a BUNCH of fresh parsnips from the garden. They were delish..I don't recall how she prepared them...but they were really good and a little sweet.

Well...I overate them and got so deathly sick that I've NEVER had them since..can you believe it? Maybe I'll stick my toe back into the parsnip patch and try them once again. Let me know how they were. emoticon
