Pics of Hummingbird Garden etc

Monday, August 22, 2011

Finally got some to upload. Never had a problem before. Couldn't get them all but you can see most of what Bill had to do. First he had to take everything out. Then he enlarged it a little which meant some digging to get grass etc out. Then he had to level it all out.Next was plastic and then many heavy bags of little stones. Then all of plants had to be replaced and rearranged. The 2 plants we put in earth box are already looking better.
here are 2 crotons we got yesterday to put out by fence
And here is one more plant I picked up.
And this Monarch stopped by too.

Ok Thats it.It has taken me an hour to get this done. I have never had a problem before.
I hope you had a good weekend and that you are all doing ok.

Wow...wow...wow! What a beautiful and joyous garden for all of your little butterfly friends! I'm going to have to put on my thinking cap and design a little something to add to that fancy garden. Of course it will HAVE to be butterfly inspired. Stay tuned...Christmas is coming darling friend...Christmas is coming! emoticon emoticon emoticon

So nice, how lucky to have a man who does what you tell him to do! My guy is not a "planner" but I am still a fortunate woman. It's just a little harder to light a fire under him. The garden is very nice and obviously a source of much joy. Green grass - wow! This year we are breaking last year's record of over 60 days straight of 100+ degree days. It's been months since we had any significant rainfall.

Grocery Day and Hummingbird Garden

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Just got home from grocery store short while ago. Put stuff in fridge but didn't prep it all yet. Or rewrap meat for freezer. Got me some fresh shrimp for supper.I have been making shrimp and yellow rice but think I will make some kind of pasta dish with shrimp.
It is looking cloudy outside so we might get some more rain.
Bill finished the hummingbird garden and as usual he did a nice job. I have 2 bee balm plants coming in another month and one will go out there but the garden is complete for now. .It now is a little bigger and has the little stones instead of wood chips which I don't like.
Ok I can't get pictures to upload. It keeps saying file too large. It has to be spark as they resize auto and it isn't. It took one pic but not the others. So I will try later or tomorrow.
I managed to get rid of excess fluid and ended up with a 2# loss which sounds right.
Some of you may remember Haven. My daughters friends little girl.

This is actually a weed but I thought it was pretty

And my great grand daughter Abigail

Ok nothing new. Oh I forgot to tell you I won the domino game we were playing. It was close tho.LOL Today my oldest son William is 48. Wow.That is hard to believe. Time is just going by too fast.
Hope you are enjoying the day today

Whoop da on that 2 lb loss! emoticonI thought I'd come back home from vacation at least 5-10 pounds heavier. I ate anything and everything I wanted...well NOT everything! But hallaulah...I was only 1 pound heavier. Hard to believe but all of the walking and worrying must have revved up my metabolism. Yay..for nervous energy right? emoticon

  Hi Eleni.........
Leave it to you..........even your weeds bloom and look good!!!!!
The little girls are beautiful. We took my youngest son and his girlfriend pontooning last night and she brought her 6 week baby girl, Sadie, along. We all got to hold her and it was good to have such a little one with us again.
Congratulations on the 2# loss. It is a great reward when the losses start to show.
Isn't it fun to win?!? Ken isn't a sore loser, but I can tell he isn't happy when I win.
Later.......

Love how babies can sleep anywhere. Spent the weekend at my sisters on Lake Michigan. It rained most of Saturday but we did get to sit on the deck in the evening and on Sunday morning. I love watching the waves come in but I won't go in the water as:
1 too cold
2 too much sand
Give me a pool anyday. I wish I had brought my camera. There were lots of sailboats out and when the sun was shing for a few brief periods it was just an awesome view.

Very Hot Saturday

Saturday, August 20, 2011

This was temp this afternoon on the patio in the shade. This is one reason my flowers are not blooming good.
Bill is working on my hummingbird garden. He has to do it in stages because of heat.
Quiet day here. Scale is still stuck but feet are swollen so I know I have a lot of fluid.
Going to make this one a short one.Hope you are enjoying your weekend. It seems to be going by fast.

And big momma gets more blooms every day

  Hi Eleni.........
The black butterfly on the white flower is beautiful!!! Do you know what kind it is?

We have been lucky temperature-wise here the past 2 weeks. The temps and the humidity have been lower and it has been wonderful!!!!! I actually have energy.....

I have told my husband about Big Momma!!!!!!! I am not sure that he believes me when I tell him how good you are with orchids, so when he gets home later, I am showing him this picture.

Take care and try to stay cool.
Patti

PS........I am looking closer at the black butterfly and wondering if it is a moth???

39 years ago today my beautiful daughter Angelina was born.
Bill worked some on my hummingbird garden, He has the circle of bricks down. I had him enlarge it just a little. We are going to put the stones in it too as I like that. Since we have finally given up on growing veggies I am going to use the earth box out there.I will put 3 of my hummingbird plants in it. I have some more monarda or bee balm coming but they won't ship it til Oct.
We made a trip to Wal-Mart and I was much better than usual. I mainly went as I wanted some new steak knives. Got them and a new pair of kitchen scissors. Bill wanted to get something there but he couldn't remember what it was. He thought if he walked around he would remember but he didn't emoticon
We did get some bread to go with supper tonight.Crock pot beef and boiled potatoes. As a treat for Bill I went on internet and found recipe for Carrabba olive oil spices. So i made him some and he was in heaven. I had 1 slice of bread and just a little but it tastes just like theirs.
Ok nothing new.Scale still isn't moving altho I have been below 1600 calories every day. Frustrating.

Ok just a few pics today. The butterfly pics are all the same guy. Roxy was helping me at the window to make sure I do it right.

Hope you had a good day.

  Hi Eleni........
My oldest son is also 39.
I laughed out loud at Bill's walking around Walmart to see if he could remember what it was he wanted. I have done that more times than I care to admit.
Do your clothes feel any different? Do you measure yourself and has that changed? I get so discouraged relying only on the scale that I have begun to use other ways.
What would we do without our furry friends to keep us in line? I have not one but two checking on me at all times.
Have a great weekend.

Love your pics, really spectacular as always. I love your Bill stories..he always makes me laugh!

Roxy is the viligant little companion...makes me want a dog someday. I'd like to rescue one of the retired grayhounds that they race at a track near our home. They are the sweetest little things and have had such a crappy life all cooped up in a small cage and then being prodded to race until their owners think they are no longer useful. Just sad to me!

But in the meantime we have our sassy little brown boy Keanu that is getting very spoiled by not one...but two catsitters who come into check on him and keep him company while we are away. Love that sweet kitty cat and miss him GOBS!

We'll see him tomorrow night late...woo hoo! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Don't be discouraged about the scale and like some have said maybe see if your clothes are losier or take your measurements and go more by that. As always, I love your beautiful pictures. I sure need some sharper knives myself as mine are so dull it's like using a regular knife--LOL. Are you able to walk around holding onto the basket at Wal-Mart or do you use a walker? I'm in a Walker and not up to going to ours as it's almost always a zoo there.

Birth of a Butterfly

Thursday, August 18, 2011

This time i got the parts I didn't with first one. From the time i found the purple pupa til it flew into tree was 2 hours. I took about 125 pics.Cut that down to 96 and then down to 29.This will be a test to see how many i can get on one blog.
8-11 the beginning 8-15 8-17
8-18 What I found at 8:45 this morning

Seconds after it came out
Wings opening 1st time detaching from pupa completely detached
first full open One of my favorites
Seconds before it flew tree it flew to remains of pupa
It took 7 days to get to where it was ready to come out. 2 hours to hatch and fly away.I am proud of these pics as i really don't have much patience but I sat outside with camera on it for 2 hours.
As an extra bonus I just saw a huge beautiful swallowtail stop for a few seconds outside.Couldn't get pic but it will come back
