Grocery day

Sunday, August 07, 2011

While Bill brings in the bags I will try to write this quickly. I am always amazed at how much we spend on groceries. almost feel guilty sometimes. But I had many many years where I had to count every penny to to get necessities and still couldn't sometimes. So I do appreciate the fact that I now can buy what I want.
Bill has the butterfly garden addition about ready to move plants around. We found the gazebo we want but it is out of stock It is suppose to be available in 8 to 10 days. So we will have to wait.We are getting a octogan shaped aluminum one.

Her is Bill's ginger plant with more blooms and my blackberry vine. Bill says the blackberry will never have berries but I say never say never.
This dove was confused by my tinted windows. And here is a skipper moth/butterfly
And this was what Roxie did yesterday while I was outside taking pics. her favorite places to sit. She loves that sand. But she is so dumb tho.She is licking inside the flower pots. Makes her sick some days.

And some odds and ends

Ok I need to get groceries put up. They had skinless boneless chicken thighs on sale and I love that. I usuallt have to sit and debone and skin them.
Hope you are having a good weekend
Boy I am glad i copied and pasted this blog to word before I did spell check. Lost the whole thing.

  Hi Eleni.....
Have you ever planted Cleome? It is an annual, but it self-seeds, so wherever you plant it, you will have many more like it the next season. It is a beautiful plant and has many pink and white or purple and white blossoms. They can get to be about 5 feet or even more depending on where you plant them. They do best in lots of sun. This morning I had a Humming Bird, Bumble Bees and Butterflies (many different kinds), all on one blossom. If you don't want them to get that tall, plant them closer together or in a more shaded area. They will grow anywhere.

I think we both lived our poor years together. I was a single mom for many years with one payday at the end of the month. It was feast or famine, sometimes! Jenny's birthday is on the 29th and she kinda got gypped or a late gift, but usually Jon was fine since his was on the 30th. (good thing September doesn't have 31 days. Jen's bd is in October) The computers weren't as sophistacated in the grocery stores and I bounced more than my fair share of checks! I used to microwave them...someone told me it messed up the code on the bottom and would delay it for a day or two. I also took a black pen and traced over one or more of the code numbers, as someone said it would kick it out of the system for a day or two. Poor people have poor ways! Life is so much easier now!

I love the pics Eleni! You have a yard that is inviting to butterflies, birds, and many little critters. Aren't those doves curious, we have some that will sit on the shed roof and watch me feed the fish in the pond. Bill is doing a lovely job out there!

Life of a Butterfly in pics

Saturday, August 06, 2011

I was so lucky to witness the new life of a butterfly.
Here it is yesterday

This is what I found when I got up this morning. It is still attached to pupa

Drying his wings while still attached

This was seconds before it detached itself and started to move

Here he has detached and is moving to plant

Shortly ater this one it flew away

This what was left behind

Bill said it is officially a butterfly garden now. It took 6 days to become a butterfly.

That was so beautiful...thank you for sharing the miracle of birth! All 4 grands are with me now and I'm bubbling over with joy! The house is full again! The Tennessee DIL called and sounded jealous and wanted to know if I wanted two more! (They spent over 3 weeks with me in June) She said Jen didn't know how lucky she was to have me in the same town. They want me to move to Tenn. (nope, not anytime soon)

Soup making day

Friday, August 05, 2011

Well the soup is made and bagged and in freezer. It turned out better han usual.Bill even ate some.
The back yard is slowly looking better. Bill has most of wall done and will try to complete butterfly garden. He picked up the small stones. He was going to get a plant hanger to put the butterfly house on.

It is so hot out there I am going to have to watch him and make sure he doesn't stay out in heat too long. While we were sitting out here talking I saw the temp and wow.The thermometer is on patio wall in shade. I had him take it out in the sun for a few minutes and it went way up.Then we had a short afternoon rain and it dropped.
On patio it was
In sun it was
After rain it was
The pupa hasn't changed much today.maybe a few more little bumps on it
earlier today Bill told me to come see the wild looking mushrooms that popped up pot with the cactus. They look like little Tiki huts and were bright yellow.By this afternoon they were all shriveled up.

And my big momma orchid is getting ready to bloom again. So far I see 5 stems coming out and there will be more. The plant is close to 4 feet across
Just a pretty flower

We will try to find a gazebo this weekend if we can find one. If not I will order one from the internet.
So Hope you are having a good day

Nice Day With Bill & Brianna. Pics to share

Thursday, August 04, 2011

It has been a nice day. Bill met Angel early this morning and got Brianna. He took her to breakfast. She was looking forward to that. She doesn't get much one on one with him. Then they came home and got me so I could go get my ICD checked. She went in with me so she could see how it is done.It was a new person and she wasn't very friendly. From there we headed to library so they could go in and buy me some large print used books. But library wasn't opened yet so we went over to Books a Million which is right around the corner to kill time.. They had a bunch of books outside and I got 5 new books at $1 each. Can't get them that cheap at library. I did pay $14 for a hummingbird book.

Then we went back to library and Brianna and Bill went in and got 8 used large print books for $1.50 each. So I am well stocked on books. I let Brianna pick the first one for me to read and it starts off really gruesome.
I did finish reading a book published by another Sparker Patricia FloridaGhost called The Double KK Ranch. It was interesting. She did a good job.
Then we took Brianna out to lunch. And then came home. Brianna did some work around the house like change our bed covers and empty dish washer..
Here are a couple of pics she took outside and one I took thru window. Mine is much brighter
I took this of bumble bee thru window

Here is new butterfly house for garden

The pupa hasn't change today

And here you can see that Roxie loves Brianna and vice versas

And Bill stopped yesterday and got a cover for my phone that has butterflies on it

Ok Hope you are having a good day. It is 96 here and it takes your breath away when you step outside. I hear thunder in the distance.maybe we will get a shower later.

Darn...why could'nt I have had a MIL like YOU...why, why, why?

I enjoy your pictures so much! We're under a heat index warning today, also. I've got all my errands done early: pick up a bag of ice, go to the bank, and drop off another load at Sally's. I let go of my daddy's hats and a couple of Larry's. Do you watch Hoarders? "Feel the feeling and let it go." I'm trying to declutter inch by inch. We both were such "savers". Took the kids to the beach last evening. They loved playing in the surf.

Special Visitor Today

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

I was very excited to look out my window and see a hummingbird. i grabbed camera and got a quick pic. At first it just looked like a blur on camera but when I downloaded it to my computer I was in for a great surprise. Needless to say I was thrilled by what I saw. It does give me hope that I will be able to attract the hummingbirds. It was also nice to see more than one butterfly in garden at same time again today.
Here is the hummingbird. It isn't a great pic but much better than I thought I had

All I have to do is be patient which I am not good at being.
Here is my grand daughter Felicia feeding her daughter my great grand Abigail. Seems like just yesterday I was feeding Felicia.
I am not doing well on my weight loss. But it will happen.
Brianna is coming to spend the day tomorrow. Grandpa is taking her to breakfast for some one on one with her. Then later we go to docs for my ICD check.
I need to make a pot of soup so maybe I will have her help me do that.
Ok nothing new for now. Hope you all had a good day

What a lovely feel good blog.
Your hummingbird photo is beautiful and nothing like a toothless grin to make you smile. Your kids living nearby really is a bonus even though there are times it might not seem so. Nothing like family. My kids live near, but as far as extended family they are thousands of miles away.
No doubt Brianna is picking up some great cooking skills from you and 50 years from now will think of you every time she makes a pot of soup.
Thanks once again for your comment on my blog. I think I will keep blogging, for August at least and see how it goes.
