It is becoming very evident that it is going to take some time to get use to the c-pap machine.Right now I hate it with a passion. But I know I have to keep at it.I have been told it will take anywhere from 1 week to a month to get use to it. I only lasted 1 hour last night. But went a little over an hour at nap time. Hopefully each time will get better. But I did get a little sleep last night.
Did you just hear all those bad words coming out of my mouth. I just spilled a great big glass of diet root beer. Plus my stupid computer mouse just wants to do it's own thing. If I click one thing it brings up two.I go to delete a message and it deletes two. GRRRRRRR. I have moved speed both directions. And it takes several tries to get highlighting to workAnd if I try to put cursor in the middle of something it highlights everything.Frustrating.
Ok Back to c-pap. I will keep working with it as all of you say it will make a big difference and I am ready for that.
We went to WalMart today. Ofcourse I spent money. I wanted to get some stud earings to replace my heart ones since I have to put that mask on .I already have one missing. Bill just went back there and found it for me. Now have to get new ones in.The backs are tiny and my nails get in the way.
Wow It is pouring outside. We have been getting heavy rain every day
Ok Back to WalMart. For once I stuck right to my list. I had some produce to get that I either forgot or they didn't have at Winn Dixie. But I also had a hula hoop on the list.Bill found one. The hula hoop is because of my buddy Karyn in New Zealand. Next feat will be to see if I can stand long enough to do it. Plus just do it. I have never been able to do it.So we will see if an old dog can learn new tricks.

1 Exercise at least 10 minutes every day- Done- I did 15 minutes when i first got up just to make sure I got at least 10
2 eat slower. --- using my timer at all meals at home.We ate out at lunch again
3.Get up and walk to bedroom and back at least 5 times. done
4. Attempt to stay in calorie range or at least not go over by much. But mainly aim to be in the range I did stay in range yesterday and am close today
5. To reduce salt usage. ongoing again this is going very good.

Stupid mouse made this post before I was finished
i am going to increase 1&3 tomorrow
Went to get my nails done and they were closed today.Bill wants me to go where they speak English but I have gone here for 9 years. I am always telling them to speak English but they don't.They talk to each other in their language.
Ok Thats about it for now. Hope you had a good weekend

Seriously, you say bad words? I don't believe it. emoticon

Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, and Shopko were very glad we came to shop at their stores this weekend. We're going to Wal-Mart or Target either tomorrow or Tuesday to spend more money. I really wish money grew on trees, like I thought when I was little.

You have to video the whole hula hooping experience and put it up as a video blog! How fun would that be? If I lived by you, we could do it together.

I don't think there are many nail places that speak only English. I've never had my nails done before and I don't think I could. I have difficulties understanding American accents let alone foreign English accents. I need an interpreter.

Well my first night with machine was not very successful. I got no sleep with machine. I did keep it on as much as I could stand. But by 5 am I was exhausted from not sleeping and having to take mask off for awhile and then back on. I was wiped out all day. Then I ended up with our grandson which was not a good day for that. But we took him to lunch and got groceries. I had him help me put groceries away. His parents came and got him at 4.Ben Sr had to go to ER as he was so dizzy. As soon as they picked Ben jr up I went to try to take a nap. No nap but I kelp the machine on for an hour. No nap but rested body some. I am going to try a different size pillow later and see if that helps.
Bill was not doing good either at the sleep testing place. He said he finally got a little sleep. They had to tie a chin strap on him to keep his mouth closed. So we were both pretty much zoombied out most of the day. I got some sleep after 5am and he took a 3 hour nap this afternoon.

1 Exercise at least 10 minutes every day- Nope Will do extra tomorrow. Some days you just can't and this was my day
2 eat slower. --- This I did do.
3.Get up every 30 minutes and walk to bedroom and back 5 times Will have this done before bedtime
4. Attempt to stay in calorie range or at least not go over by much. But mainly aim to be in the range I think I will do it tonight.Did not yesterday
5. To reduce salt usage. ongoing Again this is going good

Here is my kitchen salt shaker and I marked where it was 7 days ago.The bottom of rubber band is where it was. I just measured it and it has only come down 3/8th of an inch. Normally by now it would be empty and then some. I am quite proud of how I have cut back on salt.

Well I need to go play with c-pap and put a different pillow on it. I keep telling myself it will be worth it.

    Hi ms. Eleni,
Maybe mask will work, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I love your goals, very positive and motivating. Awesome bird pics. My 2 cockatiels huddle together too at evening time, they are sooo cute! Those 2 have mated, we still have to get a female for Marcel because he's jealous that Clovis has Elizabeth and he has nothing. I lost another pound, I'm down 12 pounds now. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing..the potato soup was awesome, will probably finish up tonite, didn't made as much as usual. I have a family cookout coming up that I always host each year so I'm going to start preparing salads and anything else I can do ahead of time so that all the work is not at the last minute. It's Sunday. I guess that's about it for now, take care and I hope things work out soon with the cpap..talk soon,

Hugs,

My mom and I use C Pap machine. I wear the mask. My mom tried the one that goes into your nostrils but eventually switch to the mask over the nose. She has no more problems. Good luck getting used to it. It can require some adjustments in your comfort level and rethinking what you can and can't wrap your brain around. Don't give up, it's well worth getting used to. Take care.

    Hi Ms. Eleni,
Sorry you both are having problems with cpap, I'm sure I would too, I'm sure your tenacity will pay off. I like your idea with the salt too. I love it also but don't salt my foods anymore. I use reduced sodium bouillon in making my soups. I don't add salt to sauces or if so, just a pinch. People can always add but once it's in, you can't take out. I like pepper alot so that and red pepper are my seasonings at the table. Weekend pretty uneventful. I did have fun at a Zumba party a friend of my son's had, it was an 80's theme with songs and you could dress up like that too. I had so much fun burning calories and fat. Well, going to go for now, I got my hair done this morning, I was overdue and it feels so good. Let me see what trouble I can get into..lol..take care, talk soon,

It does take a while to get used to the c-pap, but stick with it . I think eventually you will do better and feel better with using it. Congrats on cutting down salt intake. This a real difficult thing to do but eventually you will adjust. I found I had to take the shaker off the table and learned to taste food before I salted it and now I use very little salt altho eggs and popcorn still need salt. Keep working on your goals. They are attainable. emoticon

I think your nights will get easier as you get used to it. I'm sure it will take a while but will be worth it in the end.

That is a clever idea to keep track of how much salt you've used! When you said you liked your salt you weren't kidding, huh? I like my salt but we only fill our salt shaker up once every 4-6 months. I do however use the salt at work so we don't change ours as often at home because of that.

My kids are at their Grandparents tonight. Their Grandpa took them fishing and after dinner they're going to get ice cream. Tomorrow we're picking them up around 11 and visiting our friends that had their 1st baby 2 weeks ago.

I hope Ben Sr. is feeling better tonight.

Got my C-pap machine

Friday, August 20, 2010

Well I got it. Now I have to get use to it.I tried to take a nap with it on. Wasn't real successful but wasn't too bad.I did keep it on for 40 minutes. I got the pillows and that is so much better than the mask. It is a simple machine to use. When you first turn it on it will go to full pressure but you hit button next to it and it decreases it way down and then slowly increases during the next 20 minutes. I may have to turn it off and on a few times during the night. I used it without the water this afternoon. Bill went and got the distilled water and I will have the water in there tonight.I had Bill take a picture and I do look pitiful emoticon. I really am not as miserable as I look.

This was the day for pictures. We had to go to AAA and get passport pictures so we can renew our gun permits. This is how I looked earlier today

My grandson called and wants to spend some time with us tomorrow. We are going to go get him at noon and take him to lunch and then to grocery store with us.Will bring him to house for a short visit. 11 year old boys are too active for a long visit.
Am doing better with my daily goals today

1 Exercise at least 10 minutes every day- only did 10
2 eat slower. --- getting better with this every day
3.Get up and walk to bedroom and back at least 5 times during the day Will get this done plus extra
4 Track food calories no matter how high doing this
4. Attempt to stay in calorie range or at least not go over by much. But mainly aim to be in the range Did not stay in range yesterday but think I will today
5. To reduce salt usage. ongoing This is also going way better than I thought I could do. Stopped putting salt on tomatoes, cucumbers etc. No salt when cooking most of the time and only add a little afterwards

Our snake made an appearance. Bill tried to get him after I got my pics but he was way too fast. He actually climbed almost to the top of the little magnolia tree.

Well nothing else going on. I think I am going to make me some clam chowder for a change tonight.Bill goes for 2nd part of sleep test. They messed up his date and called today to remind him to come tomorrow. He called them back and they had an opening tonight so he still goes tonight.
He may have a lot of trouble. He tried mine and mine is much easier than one he will have on tonight. He had trouble with mine.
Ok have a great weekend.

Congratulations on the C-Pap. I had to get one 12 years ago and it truly did save my life. I take it whenever I travel. I also always use the water. It really helps. I had the mask that you have at one time and didn't like that one. When it was time to get a new one, I get one every 4 months, I went and got fitted for the type that I still use today. I think you will like it when you get used to it.

ICK! I don't like your friend, Mr. Snake. I don't think I could ever live in Florida because of all the snakes.

My kids are going to visit Grandma & Grandpa tomorrow too. They're going fishing with Grandpa then they'll spend the night there. It will be the 1st time they've spent the night there in over 2 years. Sam is going to make her chocolate chip scones for Grandma since they never last long enough in our house for her to have some. Besides, she shouldn't be eating any of that stuff. She's over-weight and is diabetic. No matter what time of day she comes to our house, she's always looking for food. I put away all the sweets because I know she shouldn't have them. We don't get along either, so I don't like sharing with her. emoticon It will probably be the last time Jason and I have the night alone for the next 10 years. I don't think we're even going out to dinner. I'm beat from all the shopping we did tonight.

Enjoy your visit with your Grandson. I hope you get some sleep tonight with your crazy contraption. emoticon

Today is my Angelina's birthday. Brianna cooked supper for her Mom tonight.
We had to go to my most unfavorable place to go tonight. We had to go to a memorial service for a dear friends husband. They were lovingly married for 57 years. The last 3 years have been very hard on them.He went into a nursing home 2 years ago. Another example of how fast life can change. I first met Emma when I took my first art class from her.She is a very accomplished pen and ink artist but teaches all mediums. When Bob got sick she had to stop teaching. She told me tonight she is going to go back to teaching. But Bob was such an active vibrant man and went downhill so fast. As someone who went from being able to do anything to someone who can barely do anything now I know how it feels.
After we went out for supper to a nice italian restaurant. How did I do?? Depends on how you look at it.Caloriewise not so good. Quantity that I ate was good. I only ate half of soup and boxed up the rest. Then I had a real wild hair and got fried calamari. My daddy would have been proud.he often ate squid for breakfast and I thought it was awful. I only ate half of it. I will freeze it for sometime in the future maybe. Then I got the seafood platter which was shrimp scallops, mussels in linguine and marinara sauce. i did eat a little over half and brought that home. I may have the soup later for a snack and the other for lunch tomorrow. I will try to get a guesstimate but I am sure I am over. But in the past I would have eaten every bite and I didn't so I feel good about that.
I will be getting my c-pak tomorrow. i called and talked to my doc's nurse this morning and told her I was not a happy camper. She said she bet she knew why. She tried to blame it on other personnel at other office but it could and should have been taken care of sooner.
But It did get done and medical supply guy called me right away and someone is bring it tomorrow. Bill will get to see what he can look forward to.
Bill goes tomorrow night for 2nd part. Brianna is going to spend the night with me to be my protector as I don't like being alone at night. I know I am a big baby

1 Exercise at least 10 minutes every day- failed
2 eat slower. --- did good at lunch but not so good at supper
3.Get up and walk to bedroom and back at least 5 times during the day This I did do and have 6 done as of now.
4 Track food calories no matter how high will do but it will be a guesstimate
4. Attempt to stay in calorie range or at least not go over by much. But mainly aim to be in the range over
5. To reduce salt usage. ongoing this is amazingly going well. I have greatly reduced my salt usage

I finally found a way to wear my medic alert bracelet without it breaking my arm out. I made a non medal bracelet and so far it is working good.

Then I made this to count my walks to back of house during the day

At the church tonight this neat looking tree was out front.Had to take a picture.

Ok nothing else going on.Hope you all had a good day. I will do better with my daily goals tomorrow.

Hi Ms Eleni...I'm sooo sorry for your friend and her loss! It is true...we never know what tomorrow will hold for us so we have to LOVE each and every moment we have. I certainly know that because of losing our beloved Josh. There are SO many times I wish I would have been more patient...more attentive..but the one thing he knew for sure was that he was ADORED and LOVED to the max! No doubts on that whatsoever!

I too...hate being alone at night...so I'm right there with you on that one. My mom used to be SUPER frugal...and we used to walk to the Bookmobile every Tuesday. Of course she would turn out EVERY light in the whole house so she wouldn't wast electricity. Then when we'd come home in the pitch black and my little 7 year old heart would be thumping triple time!

She could NEVER find her key in her big ole' purse...so she'd have me stand down at the bottom of the steps while she would walk up on the porch. She'd say..."now Roberta if someone jumps out when we walk in the house and hits me over the head..you run...as fast as you can and get help!"

Can you imagine???? I know she was just trying to think ahead if something bad would happen...but it scared the living daylights out of me...and I'm still a chicken after dark....the things that parents do to their kids right?

Sorry...I'm writing a blog in your blog. LOVE that I.D. bracelet...and your bead chain...who said you aren't crafty? You are...you are! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Tell Angelina happy, happy belated birthday from me! emoticon

1 Exercise at least 10 minutes every day- I did 30 minutes + in the pool. I walked 12 laps and swam 10 laps
2 eat slower. --- used timer and doing good at this
3.Get up and walk to bedroom and back at least 5 times during the day Done
4 Track food calories no matter how high ---- doing but was a little hard to figure supper
4. Attempt to stay in calorie range or at least not go over by much. But mainly aim to be in the range
Not tonight. Tomorrow is Angels birthday and we had way too much at supper. I shouldn't go over much I did stay in range again yesterday. Two in a row.
5. To reduce salt usage. ongoing I am doing good here.

We had a bad storm come thru last night around 1 am. So between the storm, and Bill's snoring I did not have a good night.
I am going to have to call the docs office and get nurse to do what she was suppose to do last week. I was standing there when she was told to get it done right away.

Ok nothing new and only pic I have is one I took of Brianna an hour ago.

Have a good evening

    Hi Ms. Eleni,
Cute pic of Brianna! I love how you keep putting your goals down when you write. I should start doing that. My goal this week is to try and stay within 1500 calories each day up my protein intake and get exercise in. I've been busy going to doctors also, I have knee replacement coming up on 9/3/10. I still have some more tests to get done like blood workup, urine and even a chest xray which I didn't get last time, it's for the anesthesiologist. I made vegetable soup for this week and now want to make potato soup which I may do later on. I hope you get some sleep tonite, keep up good work! emoticon

    Great job on your goals!!!

For a minute it looked like Brianna was jump roping, then I realized it was a cord from the vacuum cleaner.

I've been tempted to record Jason snoring at night. I don't think he realizes how bad it can be. Hopefully you and Bill will get your devices and you'll be able to sleep better than you are.

Happy birthday to Angel!!
