I haven't done much today except for cooking a roast in my dutch oven. I usually make it when Angel and Brianna come as it is too much for just Bill and I. They take any leftovers home. But they don't leave a lot.
I don't know what happened last night but my eating was great til about 9 pm and then it was not pretty. Am doing good again so far but will see what the rest of the night brings.
Have some pictures to share.
This is for Bobbi. Angel has been working all day so it isn't her best look as she is tired. She is wearing the beautiful necklace that Bobbi made her.

And here is little Haven with Brianna. Haven likes to eat at MsEleni's.

I saw this poor butterfly early in the day and it was on ground all day. I think it has an injured wing. Brianna took it home to see if she can keep it alive.

This is Bill's favorite bird.Tuffed titmouse. It was late evening and it is hard to get a clear picture thru window.

And I had this little guy trying to peek in my window. The window needs cleaned for sure.

Well that's my exciting stuff for the day. Nothing much on TV tonight.I will tape In Plain Sight and watch the final show of Top Chef Masters. Ok I have a bunch of emails to try and take care of.
Hope you are all doing well.
I still can't defeat my Food Demon / Beast at night but I know it can be done.I just don't know why I can't do it. Even tho I am eating too much and it is healthy food the calories count just the same as non healthy foods. But I will keep trying as I won't ever beat him if I give up. Have a good night all.

Yes, you CAN beat that Food Demon! Just because he gets ahead of you once in a while doesn't mean you lose, it just means you go another round then next day. Look at the doughnut instead of the hole - You beat the Demon more than he beats you. Especially now. Think about before you started trying to control your eating - He won all the time, right? Well, he's not winning all the time now, is he!!

Tame the Emotional Eating Beast for Good
3 Ways to Get Back on Track
-- By Dean Anderson, Behavioral Psychology Expert

When the Beast is Loose: Getting It Back in Its Cage

The bad news here is that will power has little effect on controlling emotional eating. From a psychological perspective, the shift into emotional eating mode is usually a “state-dependent” event, which is a fancy way of saying that it involves shifting into a different state of consciousness (or persona) with its own independent set of emotions and related thinking patterns. For a little while, you literally aren’t your normal self, and the normal tricks you use to manage your behavior and thinking may not work.

The good news is that your Emotional Eating Beast is a pretty dim-witted critter, and you can trick it into going back where it came from without too much effort, if you know how to do it. Here are some tricks that usually work:
1. Play the Stalling Game. Your Beast has a very short attention span, and if you can manage to stall it for just a few minutes on its way to the kitchen, it will often forget why it woke up in the first place, and happily go back where it came from. So, instead of trying to fight it and tell it that it can’t have what it wants, just tell it to hang on for five minutes and wait until you’re done doing what you’re doing. If necessary, you can usually get away with stalling like this 2-3 times before things start to get ugly, and most of the time, that 10-15 minutes will be plenty long enough for your Beast to forget the whole business and go back to sleep.
2. Play the Distraction/Substitution Game. If your Beast doesn’t fall for the Stalling Game, you can still use your superior mental capacities to keep the upper hand. The key here is to keep in mind that what your Beast really wants isn’t food, but emotional comfort. If you can find ways to comfort yourself that don’t involve food, the need to eat will go away very quickly. Find something you enjoy doing that’s simple and easy to do right away. Listen to soothing or inspirational music, take a hot bath or a nice walk around the block, logon to SparkPeople, grab the phone and chat with a friend, or do some inspirational reading—you get the idea. Think of the Beast as a young child who just woke up from a nightmare, and of yourself as the parent looking for a way to help your child calm down and realize that it was all just a bad dream.
3. Play the Good Beast/ Bad Beast Game. Even though the Beast may seem powerful and overwhelming, it is just as afraid of you as you are of it. It knows full well that you can and, someday, probably will just tell it to go take a hike, and that will be the end of the game. To postpone this unhappy day for as along as possible, the Beast is always willing to negotiate with you if you can muster up enough nerve to stare it in the eye and demand some sort of compromise you can live with. If you keep your kitchen stocked with healthy snacks that won’t kill your diet and your self-respect, and you let the Beast get its hands on them, then you can both stay relatively happy—until that day when you’re ready to finally toss the Beast out and change the locks.
Once you have the immediate situation under control, you can start working on ways to prevent this problem from happening in the first place, by learning how to handle stress and powerful feelings without relying on food

Sunny Monday

Monday, June 07, 2010

It has been a very sunny day. Altho very hot. My AC doesn't seem to be able to keep up. I have to remember to put this small unit on during the hottest part of the day.
Am feeling more like I usually do. Which isn't all that great but much better than last week which was awful. Haven't got much done today but then I don't do a lot anyway. LOL
I did get a load of clothes done and cleared off the table next to my chair. It seems to collect so much stuff. But it is now ready to fill up again.
Supper was not low cal but it is one of hubbies favorites so I try to make it every once in awhile. It has been a couple of months since I made it.It is just ground turkey meat browned with some onions and then make gravy in mixture. Put it over some cooked potatoes and it is good. Also had some tiny peas to go with it. But like I said it is not low cal at all.
I have a small and I do mean small okra plant outside that actually has a small okra on it. I couldn't believe it.The plant is so small it looks strange with the okra on it.
Well nothing exciting going on. Need to check and see what is on TV tonight. Watched next Food Network Star last night.Don't have a favorite yet. A couple I didn't care for but will wait and see how they do. I thought Kate plus 8 was good. Like someone said.Either people hate her or love her. I like her. She isn't doing anything that other personalities do and no one talks about them. The kids do not seem to mind the camera's and they do like the camera crew for sure. If they had to depend on the Dad they would be in worse shape.
Ok Gotta go get dish washer coming. Hope your day is going good.

Your AC is having trouble keeping up and we flicked the AC off and put the heat on tonight. It's downright chilly outside. It's raining right now and 58 degrees. By the weekend it's going to be HOT, HOT, HOT - about 90!! YIKES!!

I haven't had Okra in a long time. My Grandma always had it.

I didn't even get a chance to watch TV last night. Alex had a baseball game and we got home late. I will watch Kate Plus 8. She has her moments, but we all do. Her kids are so darn cute!! I would be a blubbering mess if I was going through what she is. She's so strong.

Stay cool!

Sunday

Sunday, June 06, 2010

This weekend sure went by fast. I am feeling much better than I was. Also sleeping better too. I always wake up all night long but if I can go back to sleep it is a good night.
Got a few things done today. We did go for lunch before going for groceries. We both had a cup of soup and then split a turkey sandwich and some fries.
Came home and got all refridge stuff put up. I finally got Bill to make sure we put all that stuff first and get it in bags together.Makes it much easier for me. I did get a variety of fresh fruit. A little of everything.
I also got a big bag of fresh green beans and some okra. I went ahead and cleaned and put green beans in steamer. We had some at supper but I have a big bag to eat on during the week.Either add to my soup or have as a snack. I really wanted fried green tomatoes and okra but I was good. I just breaded them a little with some home made breading along with a yellow squash and baked them in oven.Saved a lot of calories. Then I fixed a turkey burger to go with my veggies.
I did buy 2 bags of baked chips.I sat and weighed them into 150 cal bags and Bill has them hidden. That has worked out well. I can have a small bag once in awhile but only if he is home to give them to me.Since I had so many bags this time he just hid them in the other room.He usually locks them up if there are only a few. I won't go searching for them as I would never find them anyway in the room he puts them. I still have several things locked up in tool box and in little fridge. It really does help. Drastic but I am all for drastic if it helps and it does.
I am looking forward to watching the Next Food Network Star that starts tonight.Altho last season my favorite did not win. In fact I have never watched the blond who won. I can't stand her chirpy sqeeky voice
I will tape Kate plus eight just to see how it goes.
So the day has been an ok day. Will try to get caught up with all my emails.
Oh I just remembered.
My grand daughter Felicia was in a car accident and was very lucky she wasn't hurt badly. She was at fault. She was upset because she had just found out someone stole her identity and wiped out her checking and savings account. Close to $5000 total. Most of it was her college money. She ran right thru a red light. She should eventually get the money back but it will take weeks they said. I checked on her today and she is very sore but ok. I am just thankful she is ok as it could have been bad.
Ok I better get to my email. I am looking forward to a much better week weight wize. We will see.

Oh well today is a brand new start, think I will steel your idea and go get some fresh green beans at Publix.

    Hi Ms. Eleni,
Very nice to hear you're feeling much better and back to you. You're also back on track. You being on track helps the rest of us stay on track too. i went to my niece's baby shower today, I was alittle bad but not enough to have a gain. They had such nice food like shrimp salad (which I love) and pasta salad, chicken salad, I made potato salad which they all liked very much and wonderful cake but I just tasted it, not a whole piece. I had a glass of white wine too. It was a nice day seeing family and friends. So sorry to hear about your grandaughter but thank God she still has her life. I'm sure losing her college money is very painful for her but she will eventually get it back. That has happened to me twice and I got the money back; it took weeks also. Your husband is so good to hide the chips, I can get into desparate too if it helps. Chips are a big weakness for me too, I don't like to see them either or I'll eat them, I have no willpower with potato chips. Great to hear you're doing well, Margaret :)

Two of my friends were victims of identity theft as well recently. It's a horrible thing. The person was buying things like crazy with their credit cards. I hope Felicia heals quickly.

The produce department at my grocery store has gone down hill the past few months. I need to find another store to go to for that. I can just eat the green beans right out of the bag, after washing them of course.

I'm watching Kate Plus 8 right now. I'll only be able to watch the 1st episode because I can't stay up until 10 to watch the 2nd episode. I'll catch it on re-runs. I'll also catch the Next Food Network Star on re-runs. I don't like any of the shows the winners have except for Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives with Guy. I don't like his cooking show. I watch Rachel Ray but would never make anything she does.

Have a great night!

Doing Better

Saturday, June 05, 2010

Yesterday turned out to be a good day. Went to lunch with hubbie. Then we went over to Blockbusters and got some DVD's for the weekend. Then I sat in car and people watched while he went in Publix. If you like to watch people find a busy grocery store and watch the people going in and out. It can be very interesting. We watched the spelling bee on TV as there wasn't much on. Those kids are amazing. Then since we had taken a late nap we decided to watch one of the DVDs It was called Motherhood and was kinda dumb.
So I am feeling much better. I haven't done much of anything today but catch up with my sleep. But like Bill said.I don't have anything that has to be done. But I do have a dishwasher full of dishes to empty. It is a sunny and very hot day.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend. We have to do groceries tomorrow so that will get me out of house again. So now to get my eating on the right track. I gained 1 1/2# this week but it could have been worse.
Oh I did make another small jar of tomato sauce yesterday. The tomatoes are about gone but at least this time I got something from the plants.
Well The dishwasher is calling my name.

Nice to know that you are feeliing better and that you are back on track. I am about what you are where I gained a little, but I had to change my diet and was definately under the calorie count and I think my body is reacting to it. I had to be on a liquid diet for tests. There was no way that I could eat and keep to my tracking within my limits. Now I am at a set back. I hope it is not too long tho.
Homemade tomato sauce sounds so good. I wish I had a garden so that I can taste those homegrown tomatoes. I was hoping that my husband and I could have a garden this year. We didn't have the time to get the area ready. Maybe next year.
Take care and I'll catch ya later! emoticon

I love to people watch too. When we go to the grocery store or any other store, I sit in the car and people watch. Hubby does the grocery shopping, though now that I do have a bit more energy I may go too. However, he needs help lifting, since he had his stents replaced, he can't lift over 10 lbs, so I wouldn't be any help there. But I do miss out on watching the people inside......though ...they are fun to watch too. emoticon

Our garden is coming along. We have gotten two messes of squash out of the garden and one of green tomatoes; the other night we cooked up both to have a fried green tomato and fried squash combo. Very yummy but we did cook it in canola oil and it will be just for a special treat...I do love fried green tomatoes...

We also got a huge cucumber out of the garden this morning..we should have good crops on all three of them....love cucumbers....sliced and peeled.... emoticon

I'm really glad that you're doing better. Congestive heart failure is hard to live with, and I'm seeing Ace hurt all the time because of her back. I empty the dishwasher and mostly load it because she messes up her back whenever she bends over - it's not a great deal better than before the operation. If you can get better, maybe she will too. She is tired a lot, and laying down with her feet up helps.

I'm glad yesterday turned out so well for you. I love 'people watching' too, sometimes get ideas about clothes, shoes, etc. Very interesting!

Today sounds like you are feeling much better and you'll get that bit of weight gain off again too!

Tomatoes almost done? Wow, here in Canada we have barely got them planted in the ground! Nothing nicer than a toasted tomato sandwich made with your own fresh tomatoes, yummy!

Have a nice weekend.

I LOVE to people watch. It's so interesting.

I haven't done much of anything either. I emptied the dishwasher and have done 2 loads of laundry, that's it. I didn't sleep well last night and have no motivation to do anything. Everything can wait.

Good to hear you're doing better.
