Weigh in Day

Friday, November 28, 2008

emoticonI am very happy to say I lost 1#. I was fairly sure I wouldn't have a gain and if I did it would be a small one.So losing 1# is a great way to start the day after Thanksgiving.

Since I made smaller portions all the leftovers except for turkey are gone and no temptation. When I finish here I will strip all the meat off turkey and get it packaged for freezer. I will throw all of the carcass in a pot and make broth for soups. Even tho it has been cooked it still makes a good broth. I don't waste any of turkey. And as I said the turkey will come out at our christmas party for small sandwiches. Saves me trying to think up what to have.
Later today hubby will drag out Christmas stuff so grand daughter can get to stuff tomorrow. It will be nice to have her around for the weekend. She is so good here and a normal teen to her mother.Which those of you will understand what I mean. Most of my grey hairs come from her mother and her mothers siblings. That is why I always say I will not dye my hair because I earned everyone of these grey hairs.LOL
Well I better get busy.I have to do turkey ,make up my meds which takes a long time and start on Christmas cards etc.
It is a beautiful day outside today

Congratulations on the loss, well done.
Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of yourself, preparing the left overs.
thanks for your note on thx giving day, I shared it with my hubby while we were planting out the greens, and he said he never knew that either.
Enjoy the weekend with your granddaughter, it will be a special time of making memories for her & yourself to look back on. Thats what Christmas is all about in my estimation.
It is a beautiful morning here, I hope it is the same on your side of the world in 17 hours when you catch up with y time.

emoticon Way to go! You are an inspiration, Eleni! Losing a pound the day after Thanksgiving! You show us that with planning and portion control, THE national day of overeating doesn't have to be that. You had a delicious meal and still lost weight.

My niece is busy in my kitchen cooking for this side of the family's celebration this evening. She loves to cook the Thanksgiving meal and I'm perfectly content to let her use my kitchen. Her apartment is small. Frees me to do other things like SHOPPING!! WooHoo! I'm going shortly to join the throng of eager bargain hunters. (I must be crazy!) Enjoy your day. Ann

PS: Lunch was great and I was good

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Lunch turned out great and I only had one helping of everything. Some were small helpings. The oyster dressing was yucky but I always wanted to make it.Now I know.I love oysters but not in dressing.I only had one bite of it.The other dressing was good but it wasn't cornbread dressing but I ate it. Decided to make gravy from pan drippings. The turkey was moist and falling a part. made all sides much smaller than I use to. Candy yams were just one small can and I only took a small taste. Made it mostly for hubby. Also only took a heaping tablespoon of mashed potatos. Those were also for hubby. I have no idea of calorie count, But know it is half what I would have usually had. The gravy was worse as it was only salty side which I don't know why. I used just a little on turkey with spices. But I did use some garlic powder so all in all I guess thats where salt came from. I used extra milk to cut the salt. But everything was good and I didn't stuff myself senseless. I also had fresh sliced tomatoes which helped to fill me up and not eat so much of other stuff. We will eat it again tonight and then I will wrap the meat and freeze it.I may leave some as hubby loves turkey sandwiches. Any leftover gravy will be thrown away. There isn't a lot of sides left so I should be ok.
Thanks you for all the goodies and the well wishes. My buddies are the best and you know who you are. Wait a minute. Here are some of my buddies who support me so much Hallucinating,Fiestymama,Vegefarmer,Rozie,
Mdmnina,Dory@50,Rainspot,Kyann402,Sherye. You guys are the best . And to all the others who I am getting to know.I hope I didn't miss anyone. Ok It is now nap time.LOL

emoticon Well done, I'm so proud of you!!! You proved that you can have a great holiday meal without stuffing yourself so full you have to unbutton the pants. emoticon

We haven't eaten yet and I've been freaking out about my portion control. My husband told me it's OK to go off the deep end today because it's a holiday, but I don't agree. After reading your blog, I know I can do it!

Thanks for all the support you've given me! It means so much and keeps me motivated.

emoticon Awesome, Eleni!! You motivate me to do as well tomorrow. I'm having my turkey dinner a day late so I can enjoy it with my son and daughter-in-law. My Thanksgiving treat today was a piece of my sister's yummy pumpkin bread. She used the pumpkin I picked for Halloween in a local pick-your-own-pumpkin patch. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Bill!!

Thanksgiving Day

Thursday, November 27, 2008

I was up early this morning to stuff turkey and get it going. And getting up early is not something I do. But the kitchen smells so good right now. I made the 2 stuffing's last night. The oyster dressing will have to be baked when I bake the green bean casserole and yams. I did taste test of both by cooking small amount in microwave. Both are good and oyster not quite as good as I thought it would be.The one in turkey will taste different as it will get juices from turkey. Will make hubby some mashed potatoes as he loves them. I took my piece of fruitcake out of freezer for my desert..
The best part is the scale was down this morning so if I can keep from pigging out too much I won't have a gain tomorrow
The kids have all started calling and we will be hearing from them all during the day.
It is a beautiful day today.
Hubby rented some movies for us to watch later. The Traveling pants 2 for me and Hancock for us both. I may start on Christmas cards later.I don't want to mail them before Dec but Monday will work.
Just checked the turkey and it will be done in about an hour.Boy does it smell great when I lifted the foil to check it.
Bill just said the newspaper is full of advertisements. Some stores are opening at 4 am tomorrow. It will be a mad house. Glad I won't be out. They do have some good deals and probably even more this year.A lot of people have cut way back on buying.
I think my grandkids will be a little disappointed as usually all the Aunts and Uncles buy for kids but several can't this year. Will be a good lesson for them tho.
Hope all have a wonderful day today.
Bill and I will just be relaxing and enjoying spending time together. emoticon

Sounds like you are ready for a wonderful thx giving day.
How awesome that the scales are on their way down again, this shows that you are doing it.
A really good idea for presents for kids at Christmas time is to put all their names in a hat. All the aunts pull out 1 name and that is who they buy for. A limit is set on how much can be spent. That way all the kids get a gift and isn't a great expenditure for anyone,The names for next Christmas would be drawn out of a hat this year, that gives a year of thought blah blah blah....... lol
Ah well enjoy your day, will be thinking of you and that wonderful meal you are preparing.

I think the stores tomorrow are going to be insane!! My husband wants to go out and I'm trying to talk him out of it. No thanks!

I'm sure you'll be happy with your numbers tomorrow when you weigh-in. You're doing great!

Enjoy your day and movies! Just remember portion control and you'll be just fine. emoticon

Cool Wednesday

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

It was a little cool this morning but it is already warming up.
The turkey is out of the freezer and in refrigerator. It will be a long weekend for hubby and he is looking forward to it.
He brought me home 2 boxes of christmas cards last night and was so proud that he had snowmen like I asked.I hated to burst his bubble but they were different ones and not all the same. But I had 5 boxes from last year that are the same. Sometimes I use the same card and sometimes I use different ones and sometimes I make my own. I send so many that making them myself is too much. So it depends what design i like each year. I have most of my labels made.I am just waiting for a few addresses from spark members who also like christmas cards. My email address is on my spark page if you would like a card. I love to see them all hanging at christmas.
This is first year in many that I am cooking.because of health I stopped a few years ago.It was too much to cook for my large and expanding family. We have been going to different children's houses. But I didn't want to this year so I decided I would cook for us. Not cooking as much as if I cook too much I will eat it. So making small portions of some things.Bill picked up a one slice of pie already for him and I have a piece of fruitcake in freezer and that is all the sweets we will have.Am fixing him a small dish of yams. I am going to make me a small portion of oyster dressing which I have always wanted to make.I may not like it but we will see. I am probably repeating a previous blog here but you know how old farts all.We repeat ourselves a lot.LOL.
But I am looking forward to the weekend. My precious grand daughter Brianna is coming Sat morning and staying overnight to put Christmas decorations up.She is such a sweetheart. She called us last night to tell us her soccer team finally won and she made one of points. This is a big deal as last year when she played she did that girlie thing of being afraid of getting hit with ball. She is actually doing good this time.
Oh I just remembered. My hubby use to play a board game with me on Sat nights as I like to play and I did my wifely thing and made him feel quilty if he didn't .Not really.Only joking. ( I have been told by many that I have a weird sense of humor. (It was very funny when my heart doc told my husband that) We haven't played in months as I started a game night with my daughter Angel and Grand daughter Brianna when they came to clean.I would fix supper and then they would stay and play dominos. It was our together time and they were not allowed to argue with each other during this time. Grandma's rule. But things have been so busy for Angel we haven't done it in awhile. So I think hubby felt sorry for me and he got out card table last night and gave me my choice. That was sweet of him as it is not his favorite thing. So we played Upwords which is like scrabble. I always win but he was a good sport.Even when I told him the key to playing game was having the ability to spell. He agreed and just laughed. We always tease each other and laugh together a lot.Something else I am very thankful for. I plan on writing down all I am thankful for either today or tomorrow. It helps to see it in black and white. But everyone that knows my husband knows how good he is to me. I am known for bragging about him all the time.My daughters that are not married say it is his fault as they can't find anyone as good as him. Pretty good compliment for step daughters to say.But then they consider themselves his daughters. We don't use the word step for any of our kids or grandkids.
Well I have bored everyone enough for today. Have a good day.
I am glad some of you said you liked my ramblings as I sure have today. emoticon

That was so sweet of Bill! Sounds like something my husband would do. I haven't played Upwords in years! In my house we play the Wii as a family. It's hard to get my daughter to play games with us. She either has her nose in a book or she's writing a story. I can't complain about that! That's wonderful that you have a "No arguing" policy when playing with your daughter and grand daughter. That's a great idea!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Enjoy the oyster dressing!!

We play games when any of the family gets together. My siblings have done since we were youngster and we kept up the practice with our kids. Last Thanksgiving we had almost all the family together at my older brother's house and sure enough, about the time everyone was ready for dessert (who can eat dessert right after the turkey dinner!?) someone said, "Let's play a game!" Adults and children spent the rest of the evening playing games. What fun!

Great blog, we play up words here as well as many other card games in the winter evenings. Summer is so different, usually out in the garden or just soaking in the spa which is also set outdoors in the garden so we can watch the stars at night.
You are very lucky to have your Bill and I MUST stress to you that Bill is very lucky to have you too. that's how it is with soal mates.
Have a great day.

You are never boring!! I love to play games myself. But everyone is so busy watching television these days it is sometimes hard to find someone to play with. Television has replaced so much of what was fun in our lives.

I think I will get my cards out today and start working on them. I have so many cards left from past years. So I am not buying any new ones this year. Have a fabulous day!

Good morning

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Today started out dreary but sun is now shining. I did terrible with night eating last night . Oh well I have another chance to get it right tonight.
I really can't think of anything to say. maybe later I will ramble a little.
Hubby did pick up a stool that has a seat that turns for me to use in kitchen. I can't stand long so I do my cooking sitting. He will have to shorten the legs but it will be nice to just turn in seat instead of getting up and then sitting back down. I tried a computer chair and that was a disaster. I fell while going to sit down and hip still hurts..So hubby will not let me have anything with wheels in there.

Night eating used to be a huge issue with me but I have gotten it under control. I eat fruit or a low calorie snack. Some nights I really crave junk and have to talk myself out of it.

Be careful with chairs with wheels!!! My husband has been dumb enough to use the desk chair with wheels as a stepping stool to reach something. Lucky for him he didn't fall. I hope your hip feels better soon.

By the way, we love the rambling! emoticon

Dear Eleni, I like to read your rambling! Please be careful with that stool. I had a disaster one time when I tried to use one in the shower when I had a broken foot. So be careful! We don't need any broken bones!
