Grandma's Helper

Sunday, November 30, 2008

My sweetie Brianna has everything in house done for me.She did 90% of all work herself.Plus did a bunch of housework for me. She wasn't too happy I took her picture. It is nice when they get big enough to help and they want to help.

Busy Day

Saturday, November 29, 2008

It has been a very busy day.But we got a lot more done than I thought we would. Brianna was so much help. She did most of work. All that is left is for her to put all the precious moments ornaments on tree in back room and bows on tree in art room by front window. She really worked hard. I will get a picture of her tomorrow. She even went to grocery store and helped and then put most of groceries up for me. She is tired tonight. She asked if she had to get up early tomorrow and I told her no. She is such a big help and never complains. I am going to pay her but she doesn't want me to.But she earned more than I am giving her. She did about 90% of the work.
I thought I would be able to get her to stamp all the cards but my stamps didn't come today. They should be here monday so I will get most of cards mailed on tuesday.

it sure does sound very busyin your house.
Hard to believe that Christmas is almost here.
We went to Nelson today and i brought 2 new ornaments for our tree. It is one of my little traditions. Every year 1 or 2 new ornaments.
Sounds like Brianna is such a big help to you, how wonderful to have her there at this time of year.
Good luck with getting all your cards stamped & on their way.

Awesome! I love your birds, and I love that you photograph and share them! I've tried to do the same with our cardinals and bluejays and hummingbirds, but I'm either too loud or too slow. They always fly away.

That's so cool! It's so pretty!!! I don't see a large variety of birds in my backyard so I love to see your pictures!!

I hope you're having a wonderful morning. It's going to be around 44 degress today, which is pretty mild for this time of year. Tomorrow afternoon the snow begins. By Monday morning (jut in time for the drive into work) we're supposed to have up to 4 inches. ICK!

Weigh in Day

Friday, November 28, 2008

emoticonI am very happy to say I lost 1#. I was fairly sure I wouldn't have a gain and if I did it would be a small one.So losing 1# is a great way to start the day after Thanksgiving.

Since I made smaller portions all the leftovers except for turkey are gone and no temptation. When I finish here I will strip all the meat off turkey and get it packaged for freezer. I will throw all of the carcass in a pot and make broth for soups. Even tho it has been cooked it still makes a good broth. I don't waste any of turkey. And as I said the turkey will come out at our christmas party for small sandwiches. Saves me trying to think up what to have.
Later today hubby will drag out Christmas stuff so grand daughter can get to stuff tomorrow. It will be nice to have her around for the weekend. She is so good here and a normal teen to her mother.Which those of you will understand what I mean. Most of my grey hairs come from her mother and her mothers siblings. That is why I always say I will not dye my hair because I earned everyone of these grey hairs.LOL
Well I better get busy.I have to do turkey ,make up my meds which takes a long time and start on Christmas cards etc.
It is a beautiful day outside today

Congratulations on the loss, well done.
Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of yourself, preparing the left overs.
thanks for your note on thx giving day, I shared it with my hubby while we were planting out the greens, and he said he never knew that either.
Enjoy the weekend with your granddaughter, it will be a special time of making memories for her & yourself to look back on. Thats what Christmas is all about in my estimation.
It is a beautiful morning here, I hope it is the same on your side of the world in 17 hours when you catch up with y time.

emoticon Way to go! You are an inspiration, Eleni! Losing a pound the day after Thanksgiving! You show us that with planning and portion control, THE national day of overeating doesn't have to be that. You had a delicious meal and still lost weight.

My niece is busy in my kitchen cooking for this side of the family's celebration this evening. She loves to cook the Thanksgiving meal and I'm perfectly content to let her use my kitchen. Her apartment is small. Frees me to do other things like SHOPPING!! WooHoo! I'm going shortly to join the throng of eager bargain hunters. (I must be crazy!) Enjoy your day. Ann

PS: Lunch was great and I was good

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Lunch turned out great and I only had one helping of everything. Some were small helpings. The oyster dressing was yucky but I always wanted to make it.Now I know.I love oysters but not in dressing.I only had one bite of it.The other dressing was good but it wasn't cornbread dressing but I ate it. Decided to make gravy from pan drippings. The turkey was moist and falling a part. made all sides much smaller than I use to. Candy yams were just one small can and I only took a small taste. Made it mostly for hubby. Also only took a heaping tablespoon of mashed potatos. Those were also for hubby. I have no idea of calorie count, But know it is half what I would have usually had. The gravy was worse as it was only salty side which I don't know why. I used just a little on turkey with spices. But I did use some garlic powder so all in all I guess thats where salt came from. I used extra milk to cut the salt. But everything was good and I didn't stuff myself senseless. I also had fresh sliced tomatoes which helped to fill me up and not eat so much of other stuff. We will eat it again tonight and then I will wrap the meat and freeze it.I may leave some as hubby loves turkey sandwiches. Any leftover gravy will be thrown away. There isn't a lot of sides left so I should be ok.
Thanks you for all the goodies and the well wishes. My buddies are the best and you know who you are. Wait a minute. Here are some of my buddies who support me so much Hallucinating,Fiestymama,Vegefarmer,Rozie,
Mdmnina,Dory@50,Rainspot,Kyann402,Sherye. You guys are the best . And to all the others who I am getting to know.I hope I didn't miss anyone. Ok It is now nap time.LOL

emoticon Well done, I'm so proud of you!!! You proved that you can have a great holiday meal without stuffing yourself so full you have to unbutton the pants. emoticon

We haven't eaten yet and I've been freaking out about my portion control. My husband told me it's OK to go off the deep end today because it's a holiday, but I don't agree. After reading your blog, I know I can do it!

Thanks for all the support you've given me! It means so much and keeps me motivated.

emoticon Awesome, Eleni!! You motivate me to do as well tomorrow. I'm having my turkey dinner a day late so I can enjoy it with my son and daughter-in-law. My Thanksgiving treat today was a piece of my sister's yummy pumpkin bread. She used the pumpkin I picked for Halloween in a local pick-your-own-pumpkin patch. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Bill!!
