Family Picnic

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Today was our annual picnic. Last year for me to plan and pick date.I turned it over to the kids from now on.
I was only planning on going to park for a few minutes and come right back home. I ended up not going at all. I didn't get to sleep til after 4am and was just not up to it. I got up around 8 and went back to bed when Bill left. It was so hot I was better off at home.
I sent my camera and Brianna took some pics. I can't give her an A as she didn't get everyone but she did get a few good ones.
Here is the shelter which you can see is good sized.

This is Chris and Kim but mostly wanted you to see how nice the area is in background
Angel and Brianna
Neal,Brianna,Christopher
Christopher
Benjamin and Christopher
my 4 oldest grandchildren .Felicia,Brianna,Christian,William.Felicia
,Christian and William will all be attending USF this fall.
Momma's boy Heidi and Landon
Check out Landon's eyelashes

Brianna was suppose to get pics of everyone but that's ok.I am happy for what she did get.She did better than Bill would have.
Bill brought me a plate home and I now wish he hadn't. Potato salad and baked beans all have a lot of calories. Even tho I didn't have a huge amount it sure was more calories than I like for a meal. I like both but normally stay away from them both. But one day won't kill me.
I am thinking about taping the last episode of Lost altho I have watched none this season. It just goes in circles and never makes sense. But curious to see if it really explains anything in ending. I am betting it doesn't explain anything.
Well I need to go put away the stuff that came back home. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Brianna did get some good pictures. Did anybody else take pictures? Maybe they can share them with you. It looked like a beautiful day. I can't believe Brianna was wearing jeans!! I'd be sweating.

I love potato salad too. Like you, I don't eat it often. It was sweat of Bill to bring a plate home for you. It's OK of you ate it. You don't eat like that every day.

Jason is DVR'ing Lost. He said it's 4 hours long. I'm sure they have to recap because it's so darn confusing. I watched it about 1/2 way through the 1st season. I was getting frustrated because they didn't have a new episode every week and would play a recap show. I lost interest really quick.

I hope you sleep better tonight.

Saturday

Saturday, May 22, 2010

It has been a tiring day as I did not sleep well last night. Various aches and pains either kept me awake or woke me up.
Tonight was the graduation dinner for my grandson Christian. I thought I made good choices but was surprised to see calorie count. I got 2 small grilled chicken wraps with sauce on side.I did get the potato wedges. Everyone else got fried this or fried that.Bill got a pulled pork sandwich. His sandwich had less than my 2 small wraps. There must have been a lot of calories in the soft wrap as there wasn't much chicken inside. But when I got home I went to calorie king to just find a wrap but put buffalo wild wings and it had all calories for entire menu. The small wraps were 380 each. The potato wedges were only 280. I even added the 3 tortilla chips with little salsa I ate and the sauce on the side. The whole meal came to 1110 calories. Much more than I thought. I hadn't eaten much but some soup earlier so I am good with calories for the day. Still baffled as to why the wrap was so many calories.
It was so dark in there I only got a few pictures. Here is one of me with grandson Christian, And this is his brother William who he will be sharing a room at USF in the fall

A couple of Brianna
A profile of Felicia
Hopefully someone will take some pics for me at picnic.Because of hot weather I will just be making an appearance and leaving. I can't stay in that heat. I told Christian I would have to miss his graduation as it is outside and I just can't do it.
His is shot of magnolia from yesterday.I can't believe how fast it started falling apart.I took this pic this morning and this afternoon it is real sad looking
We missed the chance for a great pic on way to restaurant.I didn't have my better camera but had my people taking one.On the side of the road we spotted a full tom turkey with all his feathers sticking up.There was no where to pull over.I did a u turn but by time we got back he was in woods. Then Bill spotted a large red hawk.Missed that shot too.Maybe next time.
It is getting so hot here
I did make a stop at WalMart on way to meet everyone emoticon I picked up a hand held vac for picking up what my mouth misses in living room. The big vacuum is too hard for me. I just picked up a cheap one and Bill wanted the better one.So he was one spending money. The one he picked out was $40 more than the one I picked. It will come in handy for a lot of things like the cars and small messes.
I am planning on trying to go to bed early tonight. There isn't much on TV anyway. But we will see. I did excellent with my night eating last night.Hope I can do as well tonight.
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend

OOPS My meal was only 730. My two wraps were only 380 for both not per wrap. That makes more sense as there was little chicken inside. So I did do good. emoticon

You have a handsome family.

My niece loves her Shark, with all her cats it comes in handy.

Hope you can get some sleep. I plan to go get "LOST". 5 hours of it. I plan on watching the wrap up and record the 2.5 hour end of the series. It will be fun.

Your grandchildren are beautiful!! Christian and William are going to break many hearts. I think it's great that they're going to room together at college. At that age I wanted to get away from my siblings.

I was trying to figure out why the wraps were so high in calories too. Good thing they weren't, that's crazy!! Eating out is doable with planning and knowledge. I notice I have more doggy bags now because I stop when I'm full instead of eating until it's gone.

Maybe Bill can be the photographer at the picnic.

Friday More Pictures

Friday, May 21, 2010

My sister has been telling me about the pair of rare Heron birds that built a nest in tree next to her house. So after I got home from grocery store I grabbed my better camera and away I went. I couldn't see the babies and she is high in the tree. She is hard to spot if you don't know she is there. Interesting thing you will see is that she has a film that she lets down over her eyes. Some pics have her eyes showing and some the film. I can't pick just one or two so here are several. Check out her yellow hair on top.

This is a pretty little droopy tree I saw by bayou

And this is my one magnolia bloom.I will see if I can get it from another angle tomorrow

Ok I have decided to try the weight loss pills my heart doctor has been trying to get me to try for months now. If side effects bother me I will stop. I am only going to try them for 1 month if I don't have any problems. But I may only take them for a day or two. I know some will think I am taking a cope out but if it gets me going again I don't care what anyone thinks. I applaud those of you with great will power and determination. All of us just aren't that tough. But knowing me I could change my mind completely by tomorrow.

Our family picnic is sunday but I will only be going for about 20 minutes.I will go late and just say hello and come back.It is just too hot and too hard on my heart. For the same reason I have decided not to go to my grandson's graduation. He graduates outside at 7 on Tuesday and I can't sit out in sun for a couple of hours. He is a sweet boy and he will understand. Bill is going to fore warn everyone at picnic that I can only stay for a few minutes.
Well I am going to try to grill some okra and green tomatoes in oven instead of frying them.
Those of you that watched Grey's Anatomy last night got a great show. I was stunned from the very beginning. You just didn't know what was coming. I about fell out of my seat when the first person got killed. One of the best finales of any show yet.
Ok Enjoy your weekend.I hear my sweetie driving up in his old truck.

Hi, your sister is on the same team as me and she put me on to your blog site so I could see the Heron you took photos of and that's fantastic. Reason I wanted to see it is cause we have a Heron snitching the fish out of our pond and I didn't even know what this bird looked like! Sure is a pretty bird. Others have seen Herons taking fish out of their ponds around here but I haven't caught them in the act yet, lol.

I loved the pics! Incredible that you were able to get that close to the bird....and the flowers are beautiful.

As for the heart pills, I would look at them like crutches, glasses or other items that are needed to help live life. If your Dr. thinks they will help your condition, than by all means you should take them...your heart will get stronger, and then you can discontinue using them....it's not a cop out....it's taking care of your body....and sometimes we need a little help with that!!

Your heron birds look so big compared to ours. The beaks are not as wide and strong looking. Great pics! Even your trees are so different from ours. I enjoy seeing these pictures. Otherwise I wouldn't get to know the what the other side of the country looks like. I bet you feel the same when you see our trees and wildlife.
Glad that you are going to give the pills a try. If the doctor suggested them. I wouldn't think he would have you try if he didn't think it was for the best. Knowing that you have control whether you want to continue or quit them makes it easier to swallow...(sorry about the pun).

If the weight loss pill will help, the side effects aren't bad, and you don't have to be dependent on them forever there's no reason not to give it a try. If they work, that's great. You know that it's still going to be a struggle. My co-worker had tried weight loss pills but she still ate horribly and didn't exercise so they didn't work. I hope they give you that jump start.

I can't be in the sun and heat too much either. The heat and humidity has bothered me all my life. They will understand.

Our Granddaughter was born in September in Southeast Kansas on the day the Monarch's were migrating south and there must have been a bazillion of them in the courtyard of the hospital. I wrote a poem for her titled "Born on the day of The Butterflies".

Every time, I see a Monarch, it brings back such wonderful memories.

Today has been fairly quiet.
Found out that the restaurant where my grandson's graduation dinner was going to be on friday shut its doors yesterday. They closed several of their restaurants with no warning. I feel sad for workers who didn't even know they were losing their jobs.Very sad.

My heart doctor has wanted me to try a new weight loss med for months and I always tell him no. I am rethinking it and may try it for a month. Haven't decided yet. I can't seem to get myself back on track like I was.

Fluid has come back with a vengeance. I really hate taking extra meds. Will give it a day to see what happens.

I wasn't expecting to see anything when I went out today to get my coumidan check but I did. I have 2 scraggly hibiscus plants that also had no leaves a few weeks ago and this is what I saw

Then when I was leaving the docs I spotted this tree knot.Had to do a U turn to go back and take picture. Can you see the face in the heart????
Here are a couple odds & ends from the other day

Well I need to go pick up kitchen a little.Bill will be home soon. I used my 2 small crock pots today. His and Hers. emoticon I need to have an outlet put in behind stove as cords are so short on them and the steamers. Will have to check into that.
Ok Have a great evening. BL and DWTS on tonight plus other stuff. I do enjoy my TV.Just wish my favorites shows were spread out better.

So sad about the closing. not only disappointing for people with reservations, but sad for the people working there!
I see two faces in the heart, a dog on the right, and if you look just right, a lizard/or baby bird on the left!
What is the weight loss med.? Do you know the pros and con's ? Is the Dr really advising this or is it just an option he/she is giving you? How was your pro-time?
Boy, am I nosy or what???
Your hibiscus blooms are pretty, what is eating the foliage? I can't seem to get them to grow, my neighbor across the street has beautiful ones, guess it is just me!

I totally see the face in the tree. How cool. My friend has a dog in her tree. The weird thing is that it hasn't been in the tree the entire time they've lived at their house. Weird as it sounds, it appeared after they had to put their dog to sleep. God works in mysterious ways.

I cooked in the crockpot over the weekend but it makes my clothes smell like it and I get sick from the smell later.

There are business all over that are suddenly closing their doors. It's sad. After Alex was born Jason lost his job. They called everybody into a meeting and said they were closing their doors, that's it. No warning nothing. It was devastating. He was a Supervisor and made good money and had great insurance. He never did find another job that paid the same. We're lucky he found a job. Now is a horrible time to be out of work.

Hopefully you can get the fluid under control.

What is the name of the diet pill? Since your Dr. is recomending it it should be very safe since he is well aware of all your conditions and current meds. Worth a try?, just to get you away from the night monster.

what a great face in the tree. always puzzles me when something like that shows up, but then I realize that God can do anything, so why not faces in tree stumps.

hibiscus look like they are thriving and will make it. I have not had time nor energy to do much with the flowers or hummers this time around. when all this is over and I get better, then maybe I'll feel more like doing things outside.

Hope the fluid will subside and the medicines will work like they should. Stay positive, the weight is merely a number on a scale. it's what's inside you that counts.. love -Pat
