Altho I have been struggling with way too much fluid it has been an ok day.
I even did some exercises this morning.
And I had an unexpected visitor. I have seen some tit mouse birds in trees but never close to house. If you have ever heard them you know how they sound. I was sitting here this morning and heard it and when I turned my head I saw the first one.He was on the wire where we tie veggies. But I don't have this window fixed for taking pictures. But I took one anyway. You can see him thru the slats. He flew away and before I put camera away I saw another land but just for a second. I still had camera in my hands and was quite surprised when he stopped on sill of the window I do take picture thru.I didn't have time to focus real good but it is not too bad a picture. He was seeing himself in glass as I have the windows tinted and they are like a mirror on other side. I only had time to take a quick shot. He went over to butterfly bush but not long enough for me to get a shot. But here is what I did get.

I did get part of my spices straighten out last night.Still have more to do but at least I got a start on it.
I made some bread crumbs from old bread in freezer today. I almost burnt one pan. But I got a good size bag made.Once they cooled I added spices and parmesan cheese. Now I have homemade bread crumbs when I need them.I like mine better than store bought.

Bill got his van back today so I have my car back. He got spoiled using my car.
My tulips that were just coming up are now up about 3 inches or so. Looking good.

Thanks to Sunny I had fun making some Ms.Eleni ladies. It was fun. I will put one at end of blog with the link

I have gotten off track bad but slowly getting back.It is so hard to stay motivated when one doesn't feel well. But I haven't given up. I have gained some but have no idea how much as fluid is extremely bad. I will be taking an extra dose of diuretic which means I will be doing a lot of bathroom trips tonight but I have to. Even tho I have spent a lot of time in there today I am still wheezing some and I can feel it. Better I do it than land in hospital for them to do the same thing.

Here is what my tulips look like now.And the second one is one of the cacti that I repotted.

Well my kitchen is a mess so I better go do something. I keep telling Bill I wish he would hurry and win the lottery so I could have my dream kitchen.
Ok Have a great evening my friends. I hope this link works.

Guess what? We had a tufted titmouse at our bird feeder yesterday too! Aren't they cute? I made a list of all of the different birds we've seen in our backyard & it's up to 15 so far. Not bad for a little fenced-in yard in the middle of a subdivision!

That is an adorable bird, and you really do have a way with the camera, even when in a hurry..I've never seen a tit mouse bird before..he's so small and what a cute top knot he has..Some creatures are so precious..

Love love your new background, and the hard hat you gave yourself..that's just so dang cute..

I'm jealous of all your plants..I think I need to make a trip to get some kind of plants to cheer myself up with..really depressed lately over this pain I stay in..I sure hope you get that fluid down, wouldn't want you having to go to the hospital..I just hate hospitals..even the thought of one makes me cringe with dread..

I'm gonna try your link and make me a cartoon character..probably won't be nothing cute like you have on your page.. your wallpaper is adorable..

Glad you got the spices rearranged like you wanted..I knew you would.. are you still making the christmas decorations?

Hugs,
Pat

Sunny Day

Monday, March 15, 2010

Another sunny day today. It was nice looking out my window. The plants we potted etc are looking good. I even did a few more of my old plants.I had a small cactus pot that I put all plants in their own pot. I brought one into house and put in my kitchen window. Used the shallow pot I had them in to plant some radish seeds.
Here are a couple i worked on. The two plants on each end of window are some I repotted.

I also took pictures for 2010 garden journal.Hopefully we will do better with veggies.Bill put the earth box together and got the plants in it. So that is it for the veggies. I may get some flowering plants but haven't decided.I got several last year that didn't do well.I may get another coneflower as it did give me a few blooms.
Had to go back and get more blood work done today.Just more thyroid. Only having one car stinks. Bill should get his van back tomorrow. It was easier in some ways as I could get out right at door and he brought car to door when I got thru. That was nice.
I have to reorganize my spice shelf. It is a mess and I have new spices so I am going to take everything out and move spices around.I have two revolving racks plus a tiered shelf thing in another cabinet for extras. I have several extra jars as once in awhile they will be on sale and since spices are expensive I get extra of ones I use a lot.
I have some many things around here I never seem to get to.You would think since I am home all the time I could get so much done. But my window of feeling up to doing stuff is quite narrow. I probably only have 3 or 4 hours a day that aren't too bad.Thats when I do stuff that has to be done.Like pick up the messes I make and cook supper. I would love to get up early every day and feel good enough to do all kinds of stuff. But don't see it happening. So I will just keep doing what I can when I can.I am very blessed to have Bill . He cooked tonight. Rotisserie chicken, potato salad and feta cheese from Publix.LOL He never complains when I don't feel like cooking and never complains about what I cook. He does laundry too. He is so good to me.
I have not been doing well with my eating or my exercising.Just not been feeling well. But have done better today.Tracked my food anyway. The food demon hasn't been just beating me.He has been jumping up and down on me. It just gets so hard sometimes. Oh well. I am trying to do better.
Ok I think I may go drag out all those spices. If they are all piled on counter and stove I will have to do something with them tomorrow. This way part of the work will be done
Hope your day was good.

I love the pictures of your plants, I am such a plant person. I love all the greenery. Someday, I would love to have a house with a greenroom.

And spices...I haven't found just the right spice rack, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled.

You have accomplished so much already, and you are such an inspiration to the rest of us. Keep that positive outlook, and keep pushing forward. Changing your lifestyle is not an easy task, but so worth the bebefits. I do hope you feel better soon. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope your energy comes back and that they get your thyroid on track,as you will feel much better.

Beautiful plants! Although I always do wonderful with my garden plants, houseplants don't do well in my care. Not exactly sure what happens.
emoticon

I can identify with the trouble getting things done. I can't do much at a time, and there are some days I can't get anything done. My hubby also is good about helping me. We're both home all the time, and I figure if it gets done fine, if not it will surely be there tomorrow (or the next day!)

Hope you got your spices organized. I did what you did--took all the bowls and Tupperware out of the cupboard to sort through and get rid of some. That was last Friday, and they are still waiting on the table for me to sort through them and put them away!!

You are right, we'll just have to keep on keeping on.. we'll just have to start being a little nicer to our bodies and start pampering ourselves even if we don't think we deserve it.. then again, I think maybe we do deserve it.. *giggle*..

I've gained weight, and I'm thinking I need a new start to my journey.. I had fluid big time today.. these steroids and pills are putting the fluid on my feet and legs. this ain't no good thang, and I know you suffer with the fluid so much, too, so I can relate even more to you now..

How pretty that yellow window seal looks with those green succulent plants to adorn it..You have been a busy little bee today, it would seem, and your garden is going to be so perfect this time for the summer.. You are getting an early start on things, and that makes a huge difference when you get them establishes..

I wish I had a green thumb, but I don't..I love plants, but am not able to take care of them like they deserve, and my hubby is not helpful with potted plants.. He has a tractor and likes to work outside in the garden, but I'm so fair skinned I can't take the sunshine.. I burn like toast very fast.. I asked him to plant some rows of tomatoes, and maybe some green pinto beans when our garden gets dry enough to get out and work it..but all this rain, it's like marsh land in spots..the tractor needs a new battery too.. so that's another 100 bucks or more..always something..

I played the video of your backyard birds for my hunny, and he said that was what he loves to listen to especially in the morning when the sun starts coming up around here, and the birds begin their day. Always makes him feel like all is right with the world..

You are tempting me to get my spice cupboard in order, Ladybug..I need to trash some of the things I've had for a long time, and ones that I've never used, or never will use..just can't do to much, for I'm like you, I tire out so easy these days..plus my shoulder still hurts big time, so have been laying off the extra housework and resting while I can..

Take your time, don't over do it in the kitchen.. the spices will not run off, and you will have future days to finish your projects that you want to get done..I wish I could do some of my knitting, but my shoulder starts to hurt when I try that now..it sucks to have a broken down body.. if I had known that I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.. he he he..

Talk to you later dear friend,
Pat

The way you keep plugging along is encouraging. I know how it feels not to have energy, and I know what it's like to be home/retired and not have the oomph to get things done. You are doing very well working at the pace that is best for you. I haven't been tracking food, either, since I went back to work. I just don't want to be on the computer much anymore. I need to settle down in the evenings instead. Tonight is an exception, though. I hope your veggies do well this year and your flowers, too! How do geraniums do in Florida? They do great in the Virginia summer heat and humidity. I love them!

God bless you!

I think I'm going to start calling you "The Plant Lady". emoticon Is that green one in the window shaped like a heart some sort of bamboo? I'm clueless when it comes to greenery.

Taking all the spices out now and leaving them is a good idea. It's forcing you to go through it all. I need to start doing things like that. You do what you can around the house. I hate chores, especially now because I'm tired all the time.

Take it easy and enjoy gardening!

I actually watched this last week, but I didn't say anything, because I'm naturally not one to easily speak up, but I'm getting better at responding. Anyway, this one has been sticking with me all week (almost 2 weeks). Did you notice that the birds became more quiet when the airplane was gone? It's interesting that we become accustomed to noises and things around us and we don't notice them. Maybe you are used to hearing the airplanes. The birds may be singing with the airplanes, or maybe they are annoyed by them, as the planes are a part of their outside world also. The birds sing (or yell and holler) to what we are accustomed to. There are things all around us that we are accustomed to. Things both healthy and unhealthy, things we notice and things we don't. So the big question is do we sing about them or ignore them or do something about them. I guess that depends on what it is and whether we notice or not. It's difficult to notice things we are so accustomed to, things around us and things we do. But it all boils down to our choices. What we choose to see and what we choose to accept and what we choose to change. We cannot change the fact the there are airplanes in the sky, but we can choose to yell and holler about it or we can choose to sing. I just read your other blog, about your CHF , that is a difficult one to deal with. There are some things you can change and some you cannot. That is for you to figure out. I wish you the very best as you deal with your situation. I enjoyed listening to your birds sing it was great! I also enjoyed the picture of you and the little boy! That was great too!

It is maple sugar time here in the adirondacks and valleys. ( We supply the sap and Vermont turns it into syrup!)
Last week on my walk I noticed the birds, nuthatches, crows, maybe ravens, I am not sure, being more lively. The snow is gone, except for the occasional hump and tidbits of green are showing now on the ground.
I am going to the post office and will do my walk. I woke up late but am sure glad the days will be longer now. I look forward to seeing the robins and other birds return soon. Especially the ducks, they may already be coming to the creeks here to rest for the night.
I love hearing the birdsongs and look forward to spotting the osprey's return . He likes a certain telephone pole I can see from my living room window. I don't know why, but that is his spot.
Also have to be watchful on my walks for bears and coyotes and the occasional lonely wolf around here, but its a gorgeous area and I look forward to the trees beginning to leaf out in a few weeks. It will be up in the fifties the next few days .
Have fun! emoticon

Beautiful Sunny Day

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Sorry I didn't blog yesterday but just didn't have anything to say.
I will make up for it today emoticon
We got groceries all done and I got some new spices that I have no idea how to use yet. I got marjoram, ground cumin, curry powder,HerbsDe Provence ( mixture of rosemary, marjoram, thyme, savory and lavender) and red pepper flakes just for Angel. I told Angel that no matter what I cook on Wednesday when she and Brianna come she has to put the red pepper flakes on it.Bill told me to tell her I was fixing g french toast or something real sweet. See he is mean. emoticon
She is always asking for it so I got some. I will have to play with other spices.let me know if you use any of them and how you use them. The Provence one is just an Italian spice similar to one I make myself. I may just dump it in my blend.
They had some nice beef roasts on sale so we got 2.I can cook just about anything on the stove or in a crock pot or in an oven. But have never conquered making an old fashion pot roast in the oven. I am going to try this week. How do you guys cook a pot roast. The seasonings you use is what I am interested in. I love Bob Evans pot roast sandwiches .
OK Enough about groceries.
The doc office called about my blood work.Cholestrol is up some but he doesn't want to do anything yet. We decreased the Lipitor to every other day due to leg muscle pain. Potassium is low which was no surprise. So instead of 17 pills a day I now get to go to 18 plus extra when I have to take extra diuretic.
They checked my thyroid but didn't do a complete test so he want me to get that done Monday. I take meds for thyroid but they do effect heart so he takes care of dosage. Gyno doc first put me on it but she turned the dosage over to him because of heart. Not only can thyroid affect all aspects of your body so can the dosage.
Next------ With Bill's help we got some gardening done. Will take some pics tomorrow. But we planted some onions, yellow squash, tomato, okra. And I repotted the 2 new butterfly plants.Bill is going to put 2 tomatoes in one of those hanging thingy's and 3 in the earth box. He will do those tomorrow. Since I do better with plants and my butterfly plants have done well I may get some more from a catalog. I have a few picked out that are suppose to attract butterflies and humming birds.
The one butterfly plant I showed you has changed in the last few days. The name of it is Golden Shrimp Plant ( Camaron Amarillo) and the one that looks like a sunflower is called Euryops. Here is a couple of new pics of the Golden Shrimp Plant. I really like it.

The Tulip bulbs I planted are coming along nicely.
The water globe may need to be filled more often than I want to fool with. They may end up just being a decoration for plant.
Today has been a beautiful day.Sunny and blue skies. I even sat out on deck for a few minutes this morning.Complete opposite of the last two days.
I will be meeting two spark friends next week. One on Thursday and one on Friday.I am looking forward to it.
Ok I think this is enough. I have gotten off track but am working to get turned around.A few days of not feeling well screws me up in many ways. I have managed to keep 50# off but getting back to losing isn't going great. I am up and down the same pounds. Fighting the fluid all the time doesn't help. But I never give up .Just have some set backs.
Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Yup, the lipton onion soup will work great, and the way I cook the pot roast is the way my great great grandmother, my grandmother, and my mom still does it.. It was always the way my Nana had it done on Sunday afternoon when we went to visit..it's the way I cook it every time I make pot roast.. can't hardly beat that old fashioned way of country cookin'..

emoticon
Pat

p.s. I also cook my beef tips the same way, then I either put them over top of mashed potatoes, or sometimes over a little bit of bow tie pasta.. that makes a great meal too.. but of course the carbs are pretty high, so have to allow for those in your daily menu..

Oh my gosh, after reading those recipes am so hungry for pot roast, Need to try the iron dutch oven one as soon as we dig out the camping supplies.
Your plants are doing so well, you motivate me to try some summer squash, will try it on the lanai as the bugs don't get the veggies first[ hopefully]
Your leg cramps will hopefully stop when your potassium increases, with that many pills its a wonder that you don't rattle. Thank goodness science can keep us going one pill at a time. Pray that you will start feeling better very soon, and as you said "this is the year"!!!

Your plants beautiful! I planted my seeds yesterday, and hoping to get them planted early this year. Wow! 18 pills a day, that is a lot, but with all the effort you have been putting toward a healthier new you, there will come a day when you won't have to take so many or any at all.

I love cooking with spices too, pot roast is one of my favorite things to make. I start my roast early, and in a skillet, and let it simmer with broth or bouillon cubes. I use carrots, potatoes and onions. I dislike the taste of cabbage, so make a cole slaw instead. Have fun with all those new spices!!

You went big time on seasonings..I like to use the rosemary, and thyme when I cook a whole chicken in the oven.. just rub it all over the bird, and roast it..smells great while cooking..plus I use lemon pepper on the chicken too..

The savory you can use sort of like sage.. don't go to heavy cause it can be really strong if you get to much..It's good on roasted meats like pork, sirloin tip roast, & chicken, and also on roasted potatoes..it's sorta used like poultry seasoning..I've never used the lavender..but cumin is used in all kinds of mexican dishes, chili or you can make your own taco seasoning and put it in that.. Lots of people like red pepper flakes on breakfast eggs, or pizza, soups, stews..anything that you would want a burst or zing to spice it up a bit..

I make my pot roast like mom taught me.. I put all the seasoning on the roast, rub it in good, then I flour the outside and shake off some of the excess flour. Then I have a deep cast iron skillet with a lid that fits very tight. I put a bit of canola oil in bottom of skillet, just enough to cover the bottom of skillet and get it good and hot, Not smoking, then put the roast in it and brown on all sides.. then take some VERY HOT water, about 1/2 cup or so and add it to the skillet with the roast. *be careful* it spits at ya.. then slap the lid on it to capture the steam. Then put the whole thing in the oven until it's good and tender, maybe 3 hours depending on how big the roast is.... I add the onions, carrots and a tiny bit of crushed garlic and the potatoes about an hour before the roast is done.. cook it on about 350 degrees, real slow..the flour off the roast makes the gravy for you since you added the water.. Enjoy the YUMMY!! This is my husbands favorite..

Feeling very tired and this is another novel..so will hush for now.. Looks like you and I both are walking drugstores.. hahaha.. have a good rest tonight..

Gorgeous plants! Thank's for the pictures!

As for the curry powder, there are lots of recipes for curry. I'll have to dig out my recipe for curried meat balls for you. I use ground turkey for the meatballs and I put fruit in the curry sauce - Served over rice, it's divine!

Your butterfly plants are so pretty. I have two butterfly bushes which look nothing like your plants. They were just planted last year so only got about four feet tall but will be six feet this year and about that big around. As to pot roast, follow the first idea. I ALWAYS add one or two bay leaves and garlic (because my family loves it). In addition to the carrots and potatoes, I add chunks of onion and celery. Afer I defat the broth, I put it in the blender with the onion and celery, sneaking in some veggies. Have fun with the spices!

I've never seen butterfly plants before and the blossoms are so beautiful! Thanks for showing us the pictures. All of your gardening activities this early in the year make me want to be in Florida. (That's a new one for me because I hate summer heat even here in Virginia!) I'm not so great at making pot roast. I just cook roast beef (bottom round) in one of those black roasting pans on a little round rack, fat side up, with dehydrated minced onion sprinkled very generously on top of that and about 1/2 inch of water in the bottom of the pan. Sometimes I add potatoes, carrots, and onions during the last hour of cooking. It's not the best I've ever eaten, but it's still delicious with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. My husband puts cumin in chili along with chili powder. It really makes the chili delicious!

I hope you are feeling better each day!

I like Bill's idea of making french toast. Hee, hee, hee. What a jokester!!! Cumin is good in chili and mexican type dishes.

I cook my pot roast in the crockpot because it seems so much easier than the oven. The house doesn't heat up either. I rub mine with salt, pepper, paprika and thyme.

I'm having trouble remembering to take 1 pill!! That's why I don't take birth control pills. I'd never remember to take them!!! WOW, 17+ pills!!!

Love you pictures very pretty. I know about taking so many pills. I can't wait until I can quit some of mine. Cumin is good on almost any kinda meat. It smells like mexican when or chili powder when you cook it. Good luck with all the spices. Have fun and experiment proudly.

Beautiful pics. 18 pills a day? Too many. I hope all your dreams come true and you are able to dump some of those as well as weight and get better fit. emoticon

Rainy Thursday

Thursday, March 11, 2010

It is an ugly day out there today. Not cold but very windy, dark and rainy. I normally would never go anywhere but I needed to get some blood work done.Bill is using my car as his broke. So this was best day for him to swing by and take me. We had lunch together afterward. I usually wait til about 11 so it isn't so crowded at blood place. There was just a woman with a little girl there. Unfortunately it was the little girl getting stuck. She has some good lungs on her but when she came out she was a smiling little sweetie.
I will be meeting another Spark pal on the 19th.It is Shirley or CSDAYS. She and her husband are kind enough to drive up to Tarpon Springs and we will have lunch together on the 19th.I am looking forward to it.
Here are some new blooms I found in front yard

This weekend will be our garden weekend. We have some veggie plants and a couple of new butterfly plants that need to be taken care of.Bill does most of the work but i help a little.
Hope you are all doing well. My eating has been all over the place so I am working on getting it back under control. Never ending process.

WOW looks like your plants are starting to reward you with blooms. I only have daffodils and lily of the valley blooming.

I didn't know you lived near Tarpon Springs. That is such an interesting place. When I was in college in Lakeland I was assigned to a church in a little town below there and we had to go through Tarpon Springs. It was a neat place. I enjoyed the little shops and the boats. Would love to go back there and take pictures.

Hope the blood work comes back good. Take care of yourself.

HAS ANYONE DISCOVERED WHY WE CAN FOLLOW AN EATING PROGRAM FOR MONTHS AND THEN COMPLETELY BLOW IT IN ONE DAY?
wHY COULD OR WOULD i EAT AN ENTIRE 8X8 PAN OF BROWNIES BECAUSE MY GRAND DAUGHTER FORGOT TO TAKE THEM HOME WITH HER? VERY DISCUSSING, MADDENING AND SO HARD TO GET RIGHT BACK ON.
yOUR FLOWERS ARE SO CHEERFUL, AND WE REALLY DO NEED THE RAIN BUT WHAT A GLOOMY DAY. TIME FOR A NAP BEFORE I EAT ANYTHING ELSE.

The flowers are so pretty! How different the change of seasons is between Virginia and Florida. I haven't seen flowers around here yet. You can phase into your wonderful eating habits again. I have confidence in you!

God bless you!

It was rainy and windy this morning when I left. It rained off and on all day but was done by the time I left work. We've been dealing with horrible fog here. One morning this week I literally couldn't see anything in some spots. Thank goodness I was travelling roads I'm familiar with. It was pretty scary. Tomorrow is supposed to be another foggy morning. I'll take fog and rain over snow! Spring is on it's way!!

I always feel bad when I have to take the kids in to give blood. Shoot, I don't like getting blood taken. I have to look away and not think about what they're doing.

I hope tomorrow is a sunny day so you can go outside and enjoy it.

Hi, Eleni! We just had our tornado warning lifted here in Seminole County - Scary stuff! The 1998 tornado that went thorough Sanford missed my house by about 300 feet!

It's nice and quiet here now!

I am so glad spring is coming somewhere. The little flowers are so sweet. I could use some. It has been in the 50's past couple of days but I am sure it is headed back down

We are in a Tornado Watch so guess Spring has arrived.

How wonderful for you that you are meeting another Spark People Friend. I can't wait to hear about your meeting and see photos.

Take care and remember, we are all always a work in progress.

Hugs, Sunny
