Exercise = energy

I'm on day 21 of an exercise streak -- sometimes just 10 minutes a day. I have more energy and less stress. Since we've added yoga to our morning routine again, I have less back pain. So why do we keep letting life get in the way of exercising?

My goal this year is to continue exercising and put my health before my career. Having more patience and energy (as a result of exercising) may be more help to my students than getting graded work back to them in two days. It's definitely more help than spending time making PowerPoint presentations pretty. If the facts are on the presentation, I need to go to the gym rather than skipping the gym and sitting at the computer. If I have enough time to make the presentation pretty AND exercise, that will be time to add the frills.

My little bit of weight loss and the changing numbers on the tape measure and blood pressure cuff show me that these adjustments are necessary, worth while and effective. Now it's just a matter of sticking to them.

Excited about work

We had a great work day yesterday, and I'm even more excited about starting a new school year at a new school. I have a ton to accomplish before next Wednesday, but we're still going whitewater rafting this weekend. I have a meeting at the district office this afternoon, and somehow I still need to fit a trip to the gym into the schedule. At least I gardened this morning while it was still relatively cool, so I did get some exercise in for the day.

I've been feeling so discouraged the past couple of days because the scale does not reflect all the exercise I've been doing or the healthier meals I've been eating. This morning I measured and I see definite progress. After all this time, I shouldn't still be hung up on that number on the scale, but I am.

Feeling great

I worked out early today and feel great. The silly dog woke me up at 5:00am, but I guess that was a blessing in disguise as I ended up going to the gym before lunch and now have the rest of the day to take care of things around the house. I really need to start my grad school admissions essay, but I don't feel like sitting still that long right at this moment! Life is good!

Loving exercise again

After a doctor-ordered break from exercise, I'm finally able to do anything I want again. It's good to be reminded of how well my mind and body feel after a good workout. Running on the elliptical machine, listening to my IPod ,just allows my brain to stop thinking about all the things I need to get done before school starts. It takes a while to get into that zone, but when I'm there I simply don't think or fret about anything. I'm sure that's part of the reason I'm sleeping better these days.

Last night, I swam for the first time this summer. Working my core like that has immediately helped remove some lingering water retention and flatten my belly -- just in time for a social event this evening! My shoulders also feel relaxed after being tight from too much time reading books or sitting at the computer.

Now I'm looking forward to joining the water aerobics class on Tuesday evenings again. That was such good strength training last year and we laughed and smiled just about the whole time we were in the pool. We met some wonderful people there and just had a blast. Woo-hoo - we can do that again now!
