Starting Over!

Wednesday, January 08, 2014

So, a week in and it's going -pretty- well. I'm making healthier choices all over; drinking more water, opting for a noteworthy (but not complete) reduction in processed things, and with the exception of cheat day I've kicked fast food 100%.

Problem is this INCESSANT SNACKING. Sure, it's apples, beets, yogurt or pudding instead of Doritos and Slim Jims but STILL. Then yesterday my favorite-ever thing to eat for lunch at work was set out for the servers due to a mistake I made and I landed on that sh*t like a Sumo wrestler.

Today, my only (dietary) goal is to log everything I eat with the hope of hitting my 1300 cal. mark, rather than soaring past it with the need for another nibble of something.

In Response to TV Dinners Being Unhealthy

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

Last week, I did an article on Lean Cuisine's potentially helpful Chinese food line, and how they make a convenient curb for take-out cravings. A reader pointed out that TV dinners aren't all that healthy, and I did a response piece this week with a quick recipe of my own!

Loved your piece and the healthy alternative. It's also helpful to bake in bulk and freeze in individual meal sizes, so you can just pop it in the microwave and be done in a pinch. emoticon

Lean Cuisine

Friday, March 04, 2011

For reasons I still can't comprehend, I've been kept on at my job, writing a weekly column about health, fitness and my struggles with maintaining them. I'm pretty sure it all started with Sparkpeople - I mention this place a lot over there, sort of hoping to expose a whole new crowd to this amazing website that has helped me achieve, or begin to achieve, so many of my goals. I'm very, very grateful.

I know TV dinners are not the healthiest option, but I found a few from Lean Cuisine that keep me from indulging in my guiltiest pleasure - Chinese food on delivery. Give a read if you'd like!

EXACTLY, Limonade! You have the Chinese food craving, which would normally cost my household $40 and an insane amount of calories, you pop one of those in the microwave instead, and you've just avoided a horrid diet blowout. I know it's not fresh, organic food, but it's a great craving killer.

Julie, one of these days, we absolutely DO need to meet up. =D

Great column! I wish my local paper had something like that. I also eat Lean Cuisines on occasion and some are actually really tasty. The Chinese ones are great because they are usually just enough to hit the spot!

Stairmaster: Friend or Foe?

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

In case anybody is interested in keeping up with the fitness column I do for my local publication, here's my . . . constant friggin' struggle with the most terrifying machine at the gym! Does anybody else have that one piece of equipment that just continues to crush 'em every time? Am I the only one who personifies gym machinery?

I have a real love-hate relationship with my stairmaster. emoticon I love how I feel AFTER I use it, but I hate how boring it is -- all I can think of is when will this be over?! emoticon

Even after a year at the gym, and a 5k under my belt, I still get intimidated by the treadmill. I have this fear of tripping and rolling off the back of it emoticon! But it sounds like we have a similar strategy...I love using songs/calorie count/heart rate to motivate myself into that extra time. It is so worth it in the end!
