Please Help Me

Friday, October 09, 2009

Well, I weighed in this morning (because I have to for one of my teams). I thought that it was for sure going to be a 3 lb or more loss. I documented every thing that I ate and every time that I worked out. Please feel free to look back at my blogs for the last week. I even did well over the weekend. I was left with so many points this week (both activity and weekly points). I gained a pound. So, now I'm back to 190's. I'm so frustrated.

By the way, I took a water pill, so I will WI again tomorrow morning for one of my other teams and we'll see how it goes. I just can't believe that I worked so hard on everything and had a gain.

I am so sorry that you're feeling discouraged. I hope that I'm not too late. Have you decided about sticking with the shady sweeties? I hope that you will. I understand you being discouraged with the gain. I want the FIWC and the Sweeties to be a source of encourgement for you...not a source of guilt or discouragement.

I've been MIA for the last few weeks. I haven't been trying and the scale has shown it. I have managed to stay smoke-free, thankfully. Today makes three months. I was so grateful for last week's FIWC weekly challenge. Getting a few comments from the sweeties snapped me out of my funk. I felt that I was destined to be fat if I was going to be a non-smoker. I resigned myself to it. I had all but given up completely. Even though I didn't hear from you specifically, my mind flashed to you and all the hard work you've put in so far...and what an encouragement you've been to me in the past. I made myself drink my water this week...that was all. The scale today showed a four pound loss, and I could NOT believe it.

I think the difference between my four pound loss and your one pound gain is so unfair & that it happened that way because of this:

I completely reverted to my unhealthy habits for two weeks. Then this past week I made myself drink the water. Therefore, my body let go of all the water it's been hanging onto having had high sodium & no water for the last few weeks.

You, however, have been working your tush off with exercising & tracking nutrition for awhile now. Your body is becoming accustomed to these wonderful habits of yours, and you've hit the dreaded plateau and all the crappy feelings that go along with one. I can't fully explain why or how that unfair stuff just happens, but it does.

What I want you to know is that if you hang in there & have fun with it...shake it up somehow...do just one thing differently...your body will eventually come back around. It has to. Unfortunately long term weight loss that stays off takes WAY too much patience & persistence...things that are hard to maintain when you spend week after week getting discouraged over a scale...a little metal thing...that no matter what you lead yourself to believe...does NOT know it all. Only God does. Pray on your decision and know that I will be here for you regardless of what you decide to do regarding the FIWC. I'm off to add you as a friend now, so that no matter what I won't let myself lose track of you.

Hang in there, girl & take care of you and your needs first and foremost. Hugs~Mary

Don't be too hard on yourself, things always fluctuate...which is why I tossed the scale. That evil device will get you down more than it's worth!!!

My philosophy, and it may be a little off, but it keeps me motivated....is just monitoring how I feel, how my clothes fit, and the kind of food I'm eating. I don't log all the time, because I've gotten accustomed to what I can and cannot do....I log on days when I'm on the "iffy" side, and so far have still managed to stay in range because I knew I screwed up and adjusted later in the day.

That's not very structured, I know, but it does seem to be working for me. A number is nothing, how you feel is everything. That's just my way of thinking, thought I'd toss it in here.

I hope you're doing ok, haven't seen you around the boards lately...hope that's not because you're discrouraged...hang in there!!!!

Don't beat yourself up. Weight flucuates so much it's hard to keep up with it. Try measuring yourself. Sometimes you lose inches instead of weight. You can do this! Don't get down on yourself!

Hi Sweetie!! Like everyone else has said, don't beat yourself up. Our bodies go through so many changes, so don't get discouraged.

There are a couple of things I noticed while checking out your meals over the last few days. One, it doesn't look like you're eating enough. You definitely want to make sure you're eating enough especially when you have worked out twice in one day.
The second thing I noticed, is WAY too much bread. I'm not the type to cut things out completely, but try just having bread once a day and only one slice if you can help it. (I'm a total bread person, so I know that might be tough). Lastly, utilize sparks food tracker, so you can really see where changes need to be made. I hate logging my food, but when I did lose the 20+ lbs., using the tracker REALLY helped. I didn't start seeing a real difference until I did.

Hope that helps!!! Keep up the great work!

Peace and Blessings...
Jocelyn

Just stay the course, Tif. I dont' think you are eating enough. Sometimes, no matter what we do, our body resists. It has to "re-adjust" and sometimes it just puts the brakes on for a week or two. You ate very well...but most likely could have eaten more and done better. Rooting for you!! emoticon

Oh, I've been here before. I'm sorry Tiffany. I know how upsetting it can be. A few possibilities could be salt content of foods, gaining muscle because you're working out a lot, or eating too little. Hopefully, you'll have a better weigh in tomorrow morning.

I had this problem last week too! I did everything right and I gained 4 pounds! I was really upset, but I just kept doing what I was doing like everyone said, and the next week I lost the four plus a little bit more. :) Keep reminding yourself that the weight HAS to come off if you keep it up. :) Plateaus are only as long as we let them be, and your body will have no choice but to keep up. :)

As others have said, don't get too hung up on the scale numbers. Your body is complex, and you will go up and down.

But, an important part of Weight Watchers is the Healthy Guidelines, which remind you to eat so much protein, so much veggies and fruits, and such. Are you following those? It really does make a difference WHAT you eat. I looked at your blog from the 8th, and it looked to me like you were short on a lot of the healthy guidelines, like dairy (no, ice cream doesn't count!), veggies, healthy oil, etc. You certainly don't need to go low carb, but girl, you are eating bread for every single meal and snack.

You might want to use the SparkPeople nutrition tracker to make sure you are eating the right mix of protein, carbs, fat, and so on. It's made a huge difference for me.

I hear you on this point! For our FIWC I added vitamins back into my routine (I kept forgetting for a while) and I added two more 8oz glasses of water to my day and I am up 1.2 pounds! Frustrating! But maybe when (if) you do your measurements this week you will see a loss!? I know I did in my waist.. Not a big jump but it is a loss none the less. Keep up the great work and I am sure you will get your 3 pounds this week!

Don't beat yourself up about it. Your body is so sensitive to a lot of different things. It is only one week. I'm sure next week will be better. Maybe because of your work out schedule you have gained muscle and we know muscle weights more than fat. I am looking forward to what next weeks results are.

I'm so sorry, it is so hard and I totally understand that you are frustrated by working so hard with no results. Your body may be in shock and adjusting and holding on to all your food b/c it's a change from what your body is accustomed too. I don't really have any answers, but I can assure that you it won't always be this way. Hormones, and all kinds of other factors can be affecting your numbers, but they are JUST numbers. When I was doing really well a year ago, my body reacted to the weight loss in surprising ways, it may just be an adjustment period for your body. I know you will do well, just give it some time.

No, no , no ~ do not be concerned, this happens more often than you know. You are building strong muscle. My daughter had a great weight loss the first 5 weeks and than zero. I have only lost 2lbs over the summer and yet I dropped another clothing size; except for my back where I am building muscle. Did I mention that I had not weighed myself since June? Also, I do not know how to put this in polite terms, as this was the case too with my daughter, she was not regular - if you know what I mean ~ then she had some loss.

Big hugs to you my friend, you are doing great ~ keep up the great work.

    Tiffany~
It is just a number on the scale. Don't let it get you down. Last week you focused on tracking your points, which is great and you are aware and stayed within your points and points to spare. You are on the right track! This week try to focus on the food that you are eating. For example, maybe add some protein to your breakfast, add more veggies during the day and try to stay away from processed foods and sodium. Also with Weight Watchers, you do need to get in your dairy and healthy oils. Maybe add a yogurt as a snack or make a smoothie with frozen fruit and milk.

Stay positive, you are doing great.

do NOT let that scale rule your life, fix your wagon, screw with your head, or anything else! DO NOT GIVE IT THAT POWER! it's only one of MANY tools. look, you know you've been good, eating well, staying active, these are all good things. patience with the process! your body is no computer or calculator, it's a complex, integrated, sensitive machine that does EVERYTHING for you. it's only a matter of time that things catch up with it, those processes and hormonal surges cause that inevitable ebb and flow of a couple of pounds, so do not let the scale be your end-all-be-all of objective success. your body will do what it will do, so the more you continue to feed it the good stuff and move those muscle groups. the better, stronger, and more confident you're going to feel. please, try to take a step back when you find your perspective becoming skewed by something like this. you are a dynamic, fluctuating, unique organism, so part of this process is accepting that and letting your body do it's thing. sometimes you'll be up, sometimes you'll be down, sometimes it won't change at all....keep active and put the good stuff inside (and moderation with any bad choices) it. that is the path to walk towards success.

    Hi!

Sorry to hear about the gain. This may be a temporary set back (that's ok, they happen), your body needing some time to adjust to your new routine (my guess), or a slight indicator of something not being right in your exercise or diet.

I looked at your blog posts and it seems like you're eating reasonably although it seems like you're getting 1600+ calories on some days (I think it was Oct 5 that seemed a little high calorie wise).

I see that you are using the Weight Watcher's point program. I have no idea how that works but I saw what you were reporting as cups. Are you actually measuring this with a cup or are you eyeballing it? I've read a few times that people typically under estimate what they are eating when they guess what they are eating. I'm not sure if this is your case but I thought I would ask. I used to have this problem until I learned to measure everything using a scale. It's pretty accurate and if you measure in grams, it's easier to track (I think) and understand.

Have you tried tracking your food in the SP nutrition tracker? Maybe you'll find some clues if you put in your food there....

As strange as this sounds, you might not be eating enough. If you don't eat all your points, you aren't eating enough. Talk to your WW leader, and see what she says. I've done this a several times -- stopped eating all my points -- and every time, I either gain or maintain. Eat a good, balanced diet and eat those points!!!

How long have you been having trouble? If this week is just an aberration, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Weight fluctuates, so just keep doing what you're doing and next week should be better. But, if you've been having trouble for awhile, you might try eating all of your points. That is, all of your daily points, your weekly points and any activity points you have earned.

Whatever you do, don't give up.

Oh I feel your pain on this one! Last week I did AMAZING! I felt like a rock star...ate perfectly, got 5 hours of cardio in, strength training, yoga...did not lose a single pound. Then I cried for like an hour. BUT the number on the scale is not the determining factor in how well we are doing. You should be proud of yourself for doing so well this week and knowing that you have the strength to do that well should keep you motivated. I know I can see and feel physical changes and even when the scale is telling me otherwise, I bet you can too. Don't let it get you too down, don't let it throw you off your game. I felt defeated at first but not I know that if I keep going the scale is going to catch up. Smile, you're gorgeous and you're doing a great job!

Also, I found that when I started working out I actually didn't lose lbs. although I went down a size in pants. Muscle weighs more than fat. Don't just go by the scale, go by how you feel.

How do these points translate into the required amount of calories you need to consume? I know with me I have to constantly make sure I'm consuming ENOUGH calories and psychologically that is very hard for me to understand. Just be sure on your nutrition tracker that you are eating enough calories, regardless of the points value to make sure you are in sync with your weight loss goals. Just try one day's worth of food and see how many actual calories you consumed, like today's food if you want. If you're under your calorie count, your body will hold on to the weight, b/c it thinks you're starving it. Just a thought.

It Was Sooo Good! (& What I Ate Today)

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

Geezy petez. I kind of think that one thing that is really working for me (besides blogging everything that I eat) is trying all of these new things whether it be fitness equipment, a new fitness DVD, an article or even food. I'm going to make losing weight fun and interesting and I hope that you'll come along with me on my journey. We can do this! Who says that losing weight has to be difficult?

Yesterday, I was getting a few staple items in the grocery store and I wanted some ice-cream! Since I'm on WW, I naturally migrated in that section of the freezer aisle. Well, of course I thought that the prices were too high, so I decided to look around. I had heard of Skinny Cow ice-cream, so I wanted to check out the label. My personal favorite ice-cream is peanut butter. Although that would have been nice, I didn't expect to find it. Whoa! I found it in an ice-cream sandwich! Then, I had a slight problem: I didn't have my WW point calculator on me. So, I figured that I would have to check out the label and compare it w/ WW and try to gauge the points. Well, I didn't have to! Skinny Cow had it on the label! Woo Hoo! This ice-cream sandwich was decadent! I think the only problem that anyone would have is trying not to eat TWO! LOL! I was actually satisfied and couldn't believe how absolutely delicious that peanut butter swirled w/ chocolate ice-cream sandwich was to me! You have to try these things! There are quite a few of different flavors!

Check out what I ate today! Go me! Below you will find my food log for the day! If you'd like to view what I ate yesterday, please see yesterday's blog! Thank you again! =)

Love Skinny Cows!!! I know that they post the points, but you should still calculate at home. Also, (don't want to be a downer) sometimes having two isn't double the points. Example, two 1 point items may end up 3 points not 2!!! But if you do have 2, enjoy it and go for a walk and burn it off!!!

Pleasantly Surprised (& What I Ate Today)

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

My partner surprised me with a new EA Active Personal Trainer game for Wii. I've had it for a few weeks and yesterday morning, we decided to try it out. I asked around on Spark to see what other's reviews were before I bought it (especially in comparison to Jillian Michaels' new game for Wii) and it was basically unanimous that the EA Active Personal Trainer is the best game for fitness as far as challenging. I already have the Wii Fit and although I love it for the yoga and fun, it's just not a challenging enough workout. Well, the EA Active is a whole different story. I loved it! I did so many squats, lunges, and it even comes with a resistance band! It was really awesome! My partner and I each had our own holsters (strapped to the thigh) and our own resistance band (we bought an extra one so that we could workout together). Needless to say, we both were tired and loved the exercises! I definitely recommend this Wii Game and I am pleasantly surprised! Yay!

We have the Wii Active also...I have totally lost my motivation though over this past weekend. I'll find it again but I'm struggling...

Not sure that I'm going to be able to start on Monday like I had planned...work has taken a bit of a bitter turn and I haven't had the time to set up the workout area in the basement like I had wanted...I still have 3 days left though so I won't give up on trying.

You have awakened my desire on the Wii Active again, maybe I will pull it out and see if my son wants to go running with me.

You Asked & SP Listened (& What I Ate on 10/5/09)

Monday, October 05, 2009

I'm on the SP Community Member team. There have been discussions and requests for the new friends that are added to be put at the end of your friend list so that you don't have to keep rearranging your Top 6 Friends on your SparkPage. Well, last week, SP answered. You will notice that now any friends that you add will be placed at the back. If you didn't know that you can arrange your Top 6 Friends on your SparkPage, you can. All you have to do is click on "Edit My SparkPage" then under your friends you can rearrange them into the order than you'd like. Remember, only your Top 6 friends will appear on your page. You can rearrange as often as you like. =) I hope this helps! emoticon

Check out what I ate today! Go me! Below you will find my food log for the day!
