Week 3

Friday, December 07, 2012

I am happy to report that I have kept on exercising for the last 3 weeks. And I honestly feel great.
Whenever I am NOT exercising I think those people telling me that exercise makes them feel better and all that, I just dont believe them. But then I start to move and feel a change so quickly.
Currently I am cycling indoors with my road bike fixed to a roll thingie (Does that have a name?) and using a Jillian Michaels dvd I bought recently.
These two things work really well for me right now, and might be something I can keep up doing. With only doing 20 to 30 minutes at a time, I really dont have any excuses.
I am thinking about going back to running, something I did for a few months in 2011 and actually felt great about doing.
What I have to keep in mind is that I want to keep being active for the rest of my life, not just to lose weight. Last time I took up running I had this goal of running a 5k, did it twice and then stopped going for my 3 runs a week. I really need to come up with a way to keep me engaged in this for the long run.
Do you have any tips for me on how to accomplish that?

Goals

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

So I just joined a bit more than a week ago, and think I need to write down what I want to accomplish here.
I currently weigh 65kg, which looking at BMI and stuff, is still perfectly okay, but I know I am not healthy. A BMI that is still in the 'normal' category always gave me the excuse I needed to not exercise. I can keep on doing what I am doing, I thought, I am healthy.
Well, I do not have any particular health concerns at the moment, but I do know that I feel so out of shape, it is not funny. And I am 24 years old, or young, and want to be able to hike for a day with my boyfriend without feeling dizzy or hurting bad the next day. I want to be able to run to catch a bus without the heavy breathing.
I want to be stronger and fitter.
So while I set a goal of losing 5kg, I also want to drop the body fat percentage to about 20%, which basically means getting to the 60kg that are my goal weight. But mostly I want to incorparte fitness in my life so that I can be active and healthy and strong, and dont feel old at 24 years old.
I dont plan on losing these 5kg fast, I dont need to. More important than just losing this weight is trying to find a way to be active and keep myself from going back to inactive. I know I can make a change, but to keep it up a lifetime, that is the challenge. So I set a goal of losing 1/4kg per week, and sparkpeople tells me that I should have accomplished my goal by 2/4/2013. We'll see how this goes, but as long as I stay active and be mindful about what I eat, I dont care too much about the weight loss.

Good goals! Sound like we are in a similar situation. I am 66kg, but want to get to 63kg. People say I look good now, but I feel like I would like to lose a little more. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1859408
