What Can I Improve On?

1. I have to think happy thoughts! I think it will be helpful to me to have a positive attitude towards life so that I can lessen the impact of stress on myself.

2. I need to stick to my clean eating and working out not just on weekdays but on weekends to.

    Glad to hear that your flare is easing up and that you are able to exercise. I know weekends can be tough...eating out...wanting just to relax. It's hard to change our mindset and look at it as a time to be active and healthy too. Good luck with this ...Keep striving...it will come. emoticon

    Weekends are the hardest! A friend of mine once said, if the weekend starts on Friday night after work and ends on Monday morning, then the weekend is 35% of the week. There's no way to be successful if we are only sticking with our food and exercise program for 65% of the time. I keep that in mind and it helps me stay focused through the weekend.

I am happy to report that I am feeling a lot better today and was able to get into the gym with my trainer and do some cardio afterwards! Yay me!!

RA Flare Up

Good news I got a good workout in this evening (yay!!!), however bad news is I am having a RA flare up on the entire left side of my body (booooo ouch).

    Good for you getting in a workout, sorry about the flare :(( Make sure you get on your Dr. for help so it doesn't spiral out of control. There are all kinds of meds out there that can help, not to mention physiotherapy treatments -we must be ever vigilant about getting treatments to help so we can keep our independence and keep moving.

    It's sometimes hard to get healthy when our bodies rebel. I have an autoimmune disorder and osteoarthritis, and just when I get in a good exercise routine, one of them will flare up and slow me down. Frustrating, isn't it. Plus painful isn't any fun.

I have been feeling down and frustrated lately it seems that life is just closing in around me; stress from school, work, home, and my failing health have really brought me low.

However, I have found my quiet place, a place where I can burn calories and escape into a good book for 30 mins to an hour. After work, I grab my Nook and my workout gear and head to the gym; it helps even if it is just for a short period of time.

My goals this week are to go to the gym as much as I can, and get a good nights sleep (7 hours or more).

    We all need a quiet place! Walking helps me out. I put on my headphones and listen to audio books or podcasts. It helps me to get rid of the stress!

    Good for you for not letting anything get in the way of working on your goals. I think you have found a great way to deal with the stress and frustration in your life. When you can exercise and read at the same time, you can generate some serious feel good endorphins. (I heard this in a movie...honestly don't know how reality based it is, but it sounds good to me!) I don't know what you like to read, but I hope you include a really humorous book now and then. Laughing is also good for the soul. Something by Tina Fey, Nora Ephron or David Sedaris, perhaps. You are doing a great job sticking to your plan. Keep up the good work!

    Hi. Congrats on finding your quiet place. What a wonderful discovery!

You mention taking your Nook to the gym. Do you read while on the treadmill or similar machine? I'd like to pass your idea to my son...and to myself. Your post is inspiring me to get back to the gym again. Hope it works!

I was a college English instructor for a couple of decades and saw many of my students with your same stressors. You sound like a survivor to me. I am sure your quiet place and other good ideas will see you past your stress.

By the way, I love your correct use of the semi-colon in your second paragraph! If you ever need any punctuation tips, etc., as you progress with your studies, let me know.

2012 Spring 5% Challenge

I will exercise 3-5 days a week for 1 hour and a minimum of 15 mins everyday of the challenge; cardio and resistance.

I will follow a low calorie, balanced diet; paying close attention to portion sizes and limiting junk foods. I will track my food intake and exercise. I will weigh in and record the results on Saturdays, and will record the Living The Good Life Points also.

I will support my team by participating in discussions, offering support to others, reading and responding the member blogs, and sticking to my commitment to loose weight and be more healthy.

My numbers:

Current weight - 180
Target weight - 171
I need to eat between - 1350 and 1700 calories a day
I need to burn - 1300 calories a week.

To lose 9lbs in 8 weeks.
