Elliptical trainer at maximum resistance setting

Today I trained with the elliptical machine at maximum resistance setting. I have burned 990 calories in 46 minutes, and my average heart rate was 158. It never got that high before! Towards the end of the exercise, I actually hit a maximum of 170. Wow! I hope I can sleep well tonight, because whenever I increase the intensity of my workout, I have a hard time trying to sleep. At the same intensity the next time I have no problems sleeping at all. But the first time usually I lose sleep. Let us wait and see...

New mountain bike adventure

Yesterday I was again with the local cycling club guys (guys from "Unio Ciclista de Sant Cugat") in the mountains. It was cold but not terribly cold, about 39F (4C). We were cylcing a net 3h and 30', which was wonderful... We ended up traveling a total of about 26miles (well, precisely 42.64km). We go out next sunday too, but this will be shorter because of the holiday season. Then the big come-back will be in January 8, 2012... Luckily around here the temperatures rarely drop below freezing point.

Overate for the first time in 5 months...

And I know how it happened... A small breakfast, followed by an even smaller lunch meant later a big snack, and bigger dinner... It seems that I am doing far better on a large breakfast, a medium lunch, and a small dinner... I will be more careful about the distribution of calories from now on.

    I lost the urge to eat my old favorite desserts totally. Over the course of the last 10 years I was off and on with those desserts, because my wife never ever stopped cooking them and I never was able to stay away from them when they are in the refrigerator and freely available. But this time I worked on it, I learned to look at those desserts and think that these are actually not for me. They are for other people who don't care about their food. Since then, I still live with them, but I don't eat them. No willpower involved. Anything that is done with willpower is doomed to fail. Most people don't really understand the difference, and I was one of them for a long time.

So, unless I screw up big time with my caloric balance, I never overeat. When I overeat as it happened last Friday, I overeat healthy food, but you can get fat by overeating healthy food too, so you are right that it too is dangerous. Won't happen again.

Exercise blues

Yesterday's exercise was as usual, but did not really feel especially proud of it. But today's exercise was just terrible! It was probably the hardest exercise that I did for a long time. It was not a new exercise, it was the same an hour long elliptical trainer session that forms the backbone of my cardio training for the past 6 months. For some unknown reason, my body did not want to exercise! To my defense, I slowed down, but I did not abandon it, and I finished the session!
