10K Practice ends at 5.7 miles after getting hit by a car.

Saturday, October 09, 2010

On Tuesday evening I went out to practice my run for my 10K that is on Sunday. If you follow my blogs you know that I normally run at a park. Well I decided to leave my house and run to the park and back. I wanted a different route and I also thought it was time to face my fears of running while heavy and stop worrying about what people thought of me as they past in cars.

My run was tough until I hit the 3 mile mark and it seem to kick in I was enjoying the cool weather. I was about 5 minutes from my house and about 5.7 miles my personal best for a 10K I was at exactly 1 hr.

I was running down a major street with neighborhoods that come out onto the main street. There was a car (pizza delivery driver) approaching the stop sign he appeared to be slowing down to stop and I thought he saw me. Well he hit me I flew off the hood of his car and landed in front of it. He stopped THANK GOD and backed up. My friend was on the bike in front of me when she heard me hit the car. She thought he did run me over because when she looked back he was backing up. He just kept saying he didn't see me and how sorry he was. He was really shacking up. He called the pizza company and told them he had just hit someone on foot and to call the police.

The police and paramedics arrived within 10 minutes of the accident. I had hopped over to the sidewalk and sat on the grass beside it. I could not stand on my left foot at all and my right knee was bleeding.

I chose to go home and not ride to the hospital in the ambulance. The paramedics had check my foot pulling it from side to side and up and down. Mostly it was my ankle it looked like a baseball had attached it's self to my ankle. Once I got home and took my sock off the top of my foot was also swollen. It was a rough night there where a lot of tears. I am extremely lucky that I am able to sit here and write this. On the other hand I am so hurt inside and mad at myself. If I could go back and do something different, I keep going over it and over it in my head.

The next day I went to the emergency room for x rays of my knee which was black and blue and my ankle and the top of my foot. After several hours and x rays the PA told me that I had Broke/Fracture my 5th metatarsal in my foot and that I would be getting a temporary cast until the swelling goes down and then I would need to follow up with orthopedics for a fiberglass cast. I am using crutches because I can not put any weight on that foot even after I get the fiberglass cast my understanding is I still will need the crutches. I have an apt for Tuesday. The knee has a abrasion/contusion.

Today I am getting around better and I am very glad that I have been doing ST for upper body because without it I think these crutches would of got the best of me. I am positive today not all days have been that way since the accident.
Life is a funny thing we never ever know what's around the corner.

Hugs to all my SP friends for always encouraging me along this journey.

Thank God you are alright aside from the nasty injury you did can never tell about cars and running. You think they can see you and husband bikes about 80 km to and fro to work and he has been hit twice a year for the last couple of years but at least he was wearing a had no head protection.

Now with foot injuries the recovery is longer, so wear that aIr cast, elevate, ice rest and make sure you get to a physio when you are better to work on your range of motion for your foot.

Hugs from Ottawa emoticon

Hi hon! I was doing a SP search about 5Ks and I stumbled upon your blog before I saw the title to this one. I'm SO sorry to hear this happened to you because it's obvious you've been working really hard. You're so right when you said you are lucky that it was just your foot though. That's the thing about accidents and bad occurrences, we can think "what if? what if? what if?" but we rarely think about how it could have easily been worse. So I am so glad you're ok. Just take very good care of that foot so that you can be right back on your feet in no time! *hugs*

I saw this on my "friend feed" and I just wanted to stop by and tell you that you are in my thoughts. What a horrible thing to have happen...especially when you were apparently so close to running a race. Thank goodness you didn't suffer any worse injuries, though a broken foot can be hard to come back from. My sister broke her foot in a car accident a few years ago and she still has trouble with it swelling if she is on her feet for too long (she's never been a runner, though). I sincerely hope you have a fast and complete recovery.

Looking at your blogs, it looks like you have been doing awesomely well in training...I hope that once you heal you"ll keep on going...That happened to me once on my bike, I thought this guy looked right straight at me, and then he hit me. Scared me so badly, but fortunately I was not hurt badly, just scraped up. Now when I am running, I wave at people at stop signs and so on, and I won't run in front of them unless they wave back. I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery. emoticon

My heart stopped when I read the title of this blog post. Thank Heavens that you are mostly all right. A broken bone and a bruised knee is fairly minor compared to what it could have been.

Don't beat yourself up about what you could have done differently, it was just that, an accident. Take care of yourself sweety and be nice with yourself, you are not responsible!

Holy Cow! that's crazy! I have been just running around the block in my neighborhood training for my 5k and I was thinking about doing a different route which is all flat, since my route is half up hill, but the only thing that worries me is the cars on the road. The flat route is a straight 4 miles one way but only part of it has a sidewalk, the rest is dirt on the side of the road, but maybe I will hold off on trying that route for a week or two. Hope you get better. emoticon

9 mile run ends with WET SOCKS!!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

I really ran 9 miles. I think I have shocked myself at first I really didn't think much about it just the fact that my schedule said 9 mile run so that's what I will do. When I stopped to think about it was when my Dad said well I guess you could run to my house then. UMM I thought well yeah I guess I could. I always run at the park and I feel more comfortable there then out on the street with the traffic and stop lights. I hope to one day just put on my running shoes and just run to his house but for now my comfort zone is the park.

I was all set to go not as early as I would have liked I didn't even leave my house until 8:00 so it was getting warmer. I had a lo ball I think it's made by Monster before I ran it's a coffee drink gave me some energy. I also had a bowl of Cheerios. My friend Joane came with me she rides the bike and has my towel and water and roots me on, it helps to have someone to talk to.

I wanted to start off nice and slow so my first mile was a little over 12 min. and I was happy with that the second mile was also over 12 min. My 3rd mile seem to be faster I knew I was coming up on the 5k and wanted it to be just a little faster. It was at about 35 min. and I was happy with that. My body was feeling good. Miles 4 & 5 went well. I had a water and had mixed it with G1 pre game fuel. I think you suppose to drink it before and I had tried to the day of my 5K and it was way to sweet so I mixed it with water and drink it for the first 4 miles.

As I hit mile 5 I was getting excited and focused because I knew I was coming up on my 10K and was hoping for a good time. My 10k time was 1hr.13min. I was happy with that I had even had to walk some not sure when and it wasn't for long maybe 30 seconds at a time and then I would start running again.

My back was starting to hurt I kept saying to myself keep your back straight and when I did It was ok. I tend to slouch but the more I focused on keeping my back straight the better I felt.

It seemed to also help me to break up the run, Joane said ok you got this all that you have left is a 5k and you can do it. I was now drinking G2 that I also mix with water it's a little to sweet for me by itself. I had started to get a little weird by my 7th mile just saying off the wall stuff. At the park I go to they play Frisbee golf and on Sundays there seem to be a lot of people out there playing it's pretty fun to watch them. But around Mile 7 there was a frisbee that had landed close to where I was running and I was pretending like I was going to pick it up and throw it just being silly, I was singing along with my music pretty loud just things I would not normally do it was like mentally I was starting to lose it not sure what that was all about.

At mile 8 I was getting excited tired and ready for this to be over it was probably my fastest mile Joane said. I guess I knew 9 was coming and I was ready!!!

When I finish it had been 1 hour and 50 min. I was happy with that. I had done 8.37 a week before that and my time was 1 hour and 48 min. So I had gone longer with around the same time. I was so wet with sweat even my socks where wet. I guess my legs had dripped so much I had to lay my shoes outside to dry out and my socks I could ring them out!!!

My recovery time seemed much better then my other long run. I had a G3 recovery post game protein and it really seem to help.

I ran a ez run of 3.5 miles yesterday. I was sore and my knee seem to bother me some I walked quite a bit. But I still wanted to make sure I had that ez run in. It took me 47 min. to complete and I was sore most of the day yesterday. Today I am resting from running and doing some ST this afternoon. My body feels much better then yesterday and I can't wait for my 10 Mile run this weekend.

HUGS TO ALL !!!! emoticon emoticon

100 Days to the New Year - Goals and Commitments

Thursday, September 23, 2010

This blog post is inspired by MEZZOANGEL and MADEMCHE. Please check out their post they did and what they had to say. As she stated including today, there is 100 days left before the new year. WOW! Where did the time go?

In Paula's post she stated that only 3% of people take time to physically write their goals down, but when they do, there is a 90% accomplishment rate. So I'm definitely on board that I am going to write this down and accomplish it.

I, Lisa have 100 days to make a difference in my life. I promise myself that

I will eat within my calorie range.
I will log my food into sp.
I will run according to my planned schedule.
I will run my first official 10K.
I will run my first official 15K.
I will run my first Official half marathon.
I will Strength train 3 to 4 times a week. (not when I feel like it)
I will Zumba 1 time per week.
I will continue to support others on sp just like they have supported me.
I will lose 27 pounds before January 1, 2011.
I will spend my energy on today not yesterday or tomorrow.
I will remember that this journey is my own and that I am responsible for its outcome.

How are YOU going to make the last 100 Days of 2010 count? Write it down!! Letís do this together and ring in the new year with our commitments- turned- accomplishments that we made to ourselves!

Thank you Paula & Maun you both are very special people and I am glad your my SP friends. emoticon

5k results Turtle Krawl on Beach side/ with photos

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Well it's hard to believe I just ran my 4th 5k since finishing my c25k program
in July.

This course was by far my favorite course with the best weather it was on beach side and the weather was windy from hurricane Igor.

The start of the race was down a street that ran along the beach. So nice to start a race and look over at a beautiful beach with awesome waves and surfers having a blast. I got emotional just looking out at the ocean and thanking god for allowing me to have come this far in my journey. I am so grateful and lucky to be out here running. The rest of the course was through a neighborhood with people standing outside to wave and root us on as we ran by.
Around the 2 mile mark we went down a bike walk that was shaded and just an another nice area.

As for my race I seem to be having difficulties running just not feeling like it was my best run. Every mile felt hard to me I kept feeling like I was being past up by everyone and that maybe there wasn't that many people left behind me I would speed up when this happened and felt very winded then I remembered run your race Lisa not theirs.

The last 1/2 mile I ran very fast I was starting to get my grove on.

My finish time was 34:32 running a 11:08 Mile not my best but not far from it. The last race was my PB at 33:36 10:49 a mile. I hope to some day run a 10 min mile.

As for thinking I was coming in last there where still plenty of people to finish there where 551 people who participated. I finish 259th. In my age category there where 58 total and I was 16th. Really all these numbers probably aren't all important I am a numbers person. I like to challenge myself from race to race.

My next race is a 10K it's called hang 10 on the 10's it's on 10/10/10. I am very excited to have found a 10K it's about 45 min. south of where I am.
I just need to get the bathroom thing under control. I seem to be in the bathroom 2 times before we even left and then we stopped at the 7-11 so I could go in case the restrooms where busy. Well then after I got there the race was about to start in 5 min. I was off to the bathroom again.By the time I got out there it was starting. I did drink a cup of coffee before and I don't think I want to give that up. My girlfriend said I was a peeing machine.

The weather is still in the 90's, but I think I might be ready for more C25K training. Of course, I'll have to do week 1 over, but that's ok.

Thanks for the motivation!

I was thinking the other day while Running just how far I have come with my fitness since
joining spark in May I actually found something I love to do and I don't think that would of happened without spark people!!!
Just a little back ground first on what type of exercise I did before spark.

There was a new gym coming to town and the girls I worked with from the bank ask if I wanted to join with them. So I said yeah for $20.00 a month and my son can go that's a
good deal. (PLanet Fitness)

That was March of 08 I weighed 260 and was dieting on and off. I would gain then lose gain. So I started going but no one was really regular. Patty & I would go at 5:00 in the morning
she was all into it she had a PT. I remember my first time on the Elliptical I went for 10 min.
I thought I would die. Patty said it would get better and I thought right maybe for you at 125 pounds. Well she was right I can go for 1hr or longer now and burn some major calories.

So I went on and off and in Dec of 08 I was laid off from the bank. (loan area)
I ate my way through the holidays and in March of 09 I had to look for insurance coverage always being covered with the bank it was never a issue. Well at 254 pounds border line high blood pressure the premiums where high. I really had not had high blood pressure and now I did.

So back to the gym this time more serious then ever my health was a issue. I started working out every other day 60 min of cardio & 30 to 45 min of strength training. My girlfriend's gym closed down and she came to mine that was nice to have someone there.
But honestly I went because I felt better afterward. I have never liked going there as I have lost weight it has been easier to go. I went on a regular basis before starting a medical class in Vero in Aug.09 and I slowed up on it. By Dec. of 09 I was 208 pounds. Well again I decided to eat at the holidays and after in March I weighed 223 so know it's been a year since getting serious and I have lost 31 pounds not much for a years time but it's better then gaining.

I went on vacation to Ca. in March of this year and ate pretty good for vacation brought snacks and I even worked out in the hotel gym. My cardio was really good such a difference from when I had been there a year and a half before.

So after vacation in April I decided I am going to start writing my food down every day and my fitness and get serious. By May I am strong I actually Ran on the treadmill at the gym it felt good. I was all worried about what everyone thought of me. When in reality everyone was busy doing there own thing it was all in my head.

I went home after running and started researching programs for running. I found one on I was very excited something new and a challenge. So On May 1st. I started with my program at the gym. I remember thinking wow I like coming here my girlfriend would walk on the treadmill beside mine while I was running and encourage me.

On May 14th I decided to check out Spark I was tired of logging my food in a book my Mom had told me about it months prior but did I listen NO.

I logged on as MOVINITMORE that's exactly what I had been doing so I thought that's a good name. Well I set up my Nutrition tracker and the Fitness tracker I didn't realize they even had that. I was excited to say the least. Then I started looking around at the teams and reading blogs.

That's where my Title comes to into play. I was about 3 weeks into my 5k training and I really started doubting Running at my Size. I even told my friend maybe this isn't for me this running thing. I think I should lose some more weight and try again doing it when I am smaller. (I think I have done that all my life and really it's sad to let life pass you by because of weight)

The next day I logged onto spark and thought let me check out this couch to 5k program/group. I was just peaking around reading stuff in a chit chat room that these girls had wrote about running while chunky. I even seen a team called Fat girls can run. I never joined but Just reading all the stuff helped me so much that I finished my 5k program and signed up to run my first 5k on July 4th weekend. (Oh that too played games with my head like are you crazy doing this I went back and fourth in my head with it) But again there where spark people out there doing it so I knew it could be done!!!

I want to say a BIG THANK YOU today for all the girls out there who wrote blogs and wrote about running at your size if it wasn't for you & spark I would NOT be training to do a half marathon the end of November.

I want to say THANK YOU to all my SPARK FRIENDS for encouraging me every day on this journey.

Actually while training I have realized that you do need to eat a lot more to fuel your body for the LONG RUN and I will but it will be HEALTHY!!!!

Thanks again for reading this long blog and for being there.

Here's to running, rather than eating, through the holidays! My race schedule kicks off with a 5K on my birthday, and continues through the 12Ks of Christmas race, and a 1/2 marathon in January. Can't let my old holiday habits derail my training.
